Make Overview:

Chevrolet sells an impressively wide range of vehicles, from subcompact hatchbacks to huge vans and SUVs. If you're looking for a reasonably priced vehicle, odds are that Chevy will have something to fit your needs.

Chevrolet got its start in 1911. After William C. Durant had been ousted from General Motors, he joined forces with Swiss-born racecar driver Louis Chevrolet to found the Chevrolet Motor Car Company. The company's first offering was the Classic Six. Introduced in 1912, this five-passenger touring sedan could top 65 mph, fast for the time. Chevrolet's storied bowtie logo -- reportedly inspired by the wallpaper of a Paris hotel room that Durant stayed at -- made its first appearance in 1914.

By 1918, Chevrolet's profitability allowed Durant to purchase enough shares in GM to regain control. Chevrolet became another division of GM, and was its largest volume division by the mid-1920s. By 1927, Chevrolet outsold rival Ford, with sales in excess of 1 million units.

In the mid-1930s Chevrolet introduced independent front suspension, which provided a smoother ride over the rough roads of the day. The 1940s saw continued success with affordable coupes, sedans and pickup trucks catering to American families, farmers and businessmen.

By the mid-1950s, Chevrolet, GM's entry-level division, had added a V8 engine, power steering and brakes, power windows and air-conditioning to its list of available features, allowing luxury for those on a tighter budget. Around this time the iconic Bel Air model -- available in coupe, sedan, convertible and wagon body styles -- proved very popular. The company introduced its alluring Corvette in 1953; the vehicle was the first mass-produced car with a fiberglass body.

The 1960s saw the unveiling of the popular, air-cooled Corvair compact, which held the distinction of being the first domestic production car with all-around independent suspension. That decade also witnessed the launch of the compact Nova, the midsize Chevelle and the sporty Camaro, the latter Chevrolet's answer to the wildly successful Ford Mustang. The Camaro proved an instant hit, comprising 10 percent of Chevrolet's total sales in 1967, its first year of production.

In the 1970s, Chevy responded to changing preferences by introducing small cars like the Vega and the Chevette, and by downsizing larger models such as the Caprice and Malibu. The company combated the market domination of foreign nameplates in the 1980s by rolling out the Cavalier. By the end of that decade, trucks and SUVs had started to become increasingly popular with the general consumer, and the brand's mid- and full-size models continue to this day to be some of the most popular on the road.

The '90s and the early 2000s saw the company raising the performance bar with its Corvette (notably the Z06 and, later, ZR1 variants) and reincarnated Impala SS. Chevrolet's Silverado pickup truck and Tahoe/Suburban SUVs continued to be hits as well. By 2010, the Camaro had returned to the lineup after a seven-year hiatus.

Modern times have seen Chevrolet make significant improvements in its small and midsize car models and introduce the Volt plug-in hybrid. The latter provides a nearly 40-mile range on electric power alone, and adds to the company's already well-rounded lineup of cars, trucks and SUVs. Though today's marketplace is very demanding, Chevrolet seems poised to remain a power player through its affordable and innovative vehicles.

Aside from being appealing to the eye, the Silverado rides like a luxury car. The interior is luxurious comfort and all controls are within easy reach. The stability is unsurpassed for a truck in this catagory. The engine is powerful, smooth and quiet running. Using the 4 wheel drive is simple and smooth. Ive been off road in mine and it goes through anything, mud, gravel, standing water. All in all I highly recommend this vehicle. It will turn everybodys head and keep you on the road every day.

  • I absolutely love this car to death. - 2004 Chevrolet Impala

I absolutely love this car. For a 2004 and for when my husband and I purchased it in 2013 its an absolute value. We got it with about 145,000 miles on it. Weve had to do some minor repairs on it but thats about it. Great car overall. Corners well, drives great, runs great, and the supercharger tops it off! I can get from the beginning of a freeway entrance ramp at 0 and be at 100 by the end of it even on a short ramp. I love to drive this car and I want to get another one eventually. I highly recommend the impala cause they last through everything as long as you take great care of them.

  • Best Truck Ever - 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I have owned many vehicles in my lifetime, but this Chevy Z71 takes the cake. Not only does it look great, but the 5.3L V-8 easily get 19mpg hwy and 15-16mpg city. Now that is with the bed filled with very heavy tools that I carry everywhere I go. Also, it rides and drives like a car, but acts like a very tough and dependable 4x4 truck. When I go offroad, it is unstoppable. It has a very rugged and strong motor and transmission. I love everything about this truck. I definitely recommend this truck to anybody!!

Overall a great truck for someone who doesnt routinely need a large hauling or towing capacity. Ive taken several trips over 300 miles and the ride was always comfortable. Plenty of power, smooth shifting, easy on the fly transfer from 2WD to 4WD. Z71 package has a nice ride with good steering input. Holds the road well. 4WD and suspension gives plenty of grip and stability over rough terrain. Very good gas mileage. I average about 20 mpg (23- 24 on mostly highway trips, worst was 17 mpg for a tank but that was almost all stop and go short trips in cold weather). Back seats are only good for small people / short trips.

  • Great Value-amazing engine. - 2016 Chevrolet Impala Limited
    By -

I recently purchased a used dark grey 2016 Impala Limited LT 3.6 liter sedan with 35,000.00 miles on it. The car is built on a chassis that Chevrolet has used for quite some time. Its a very solid chassis and police departments in the US have utilized this chassis as a patrol vehicle. The cloth seats are nothing too great but everything else about this car is a steal. You get 305 horsepower with 285 lbs ft torque with the GM 3.6 liter v6 LFX. This is an extremely reliable v6 and it packs alot of available power and torque. The drive is very smooth and you can tell the chassis is rock solid. I will say if you are looking at a no frills driver this is a great car as far as value is concerned. I enjoy driving the car as its fast, smooth and responsive. You get Bluetooth for calls and Aux in for audio purposes. If you can find one with low mileage these are a steal. I am very happy with my purchase thus far.

I think this is a benchmark vehicle for GM. If you close your eyes get into the car and open them the car speaks import. Think no cheap feeling plastics were so used to in GM products. And lets not gripe about location of window switches, etc. We saw those as soon as we drove the car. What I do love is the attention I get with this car--Ive been driving some 30 years and I have never gotten the compliments like I do with this car. And all of my cars have been nice.

This car is very comfortable to drive. I can set the seat for me to use and adjust when needed. All the radio controlls are right at the seering wheel so as I dont have to reach to change the channel.I have OnStar, which makes the convienence of a hands free cell phone. Just push a button just above your head and start talking, you tell it what to do, can even check your E-mails.This car has a very sleek look and the exterior gives it a sporty look. Handling is perfect for anyone. Just a great car.
