Chevrolet sells an impressively wide range of vehicles, from subcompact hatchbacks to huge vans and SUVs. If you're looking for a reasonably priced vehicle, odds are that Chevy will have something to fit your needs.

Chevrolet got its start in 1911. After William C. Durant had been ousted from General Motors, he joined forces with Swiss-born racecar driver Louis Chevrolet to found the Chevrolet Motor Car Company. The company's first offering was the Classic Six. Introduced in 1912, this five-passenger touring sedan could top 65 mph, fast for the time. Chevrolet's storied bowtie logo -- reportedly inspired by the wallpaper of a Paris hotel room that Durant stayed at -- made its first appearance in 1914.

By 1918, Chevrolet's profitability allowed Durant to purchase enough shares in GM to regain control. Chevrolet became another division of GM, and was its largest volume division by the mid-1920s. By 1927, Chevrolet outsold rival Ford, with sales in excess of 1 million units.

In the mid-1930s Chevrolet introduced independent front suspension, which provided a smoother ride over the rough roads of the day. The 1940s saw continued success with affordable coupes, sedans and pickup trucks catering to American families, farmers and businessmen.

By the mid-1950s, Chevrolet, GM's entry-level division, had added a V8 engine, power steering and brakes, power windows and air-conditioning to its list of available features, allowing luxury for those on a tighter budget. Around this time the iconic Bel Air model -- available in coupe, sedan, convertible and wagon body styles -- proved very popular. The company introduced its alluring Corvette in 1953; the vehicle was the first mass-produced car with a fiberglass body.

The 1960s saw the unveiling of the popular, air-cooled Corvair compact, which held the distinction of being the first domestic production car with all-around independent suspension. That decade also witnessed the launch of the compact Nova, the midsize Chevelle and the sporty Camaro, the latter Chevrolet's answer to the wildly successful Ford Mustang. The Camaro proved an instant hit, comprising 10 percent of Chevrolet's total sales in 1967, its first year of production.

In the 1970s, Chevy responded to changing preferences by introducing small cars like the Vega and the Chevette, and by downsizing larger models such as the Caprice and Malibu. The company combated the market domination of foreign nameplates in the 1980s by rolling out the Cavalier. By the end of that decade, trucks and SUVs had started to become increasingly popular with the general consumer, and the brand's mid- and full-size models continue to this day to be some of the most popular on the road.

The '90s and the early 2000s saw the company raising the performance bar with its Corvette (notably the Z06 and, later, ZR1 variants) and reincarnated Impala SS. Chevrolet's Silverado pickup truck and Tahoe/Suburban SUVs continued to be hits as well. By 2010, the Camaro had returned to the lineup after a seven-year hiatus.

Modern times have seen Chevrolet make significant improvements in its small and midsize car models and introduce the Volt plug-in hybrid. The latter provides a nearly 40-mile range on electric power alone, and adds to the company's already well-rounded lineup of cars, trucks and SUVs. Though today's marketplace is very demanding, Chevrolet seems poised to remain a power player through its affordable and innovative vehicles.

  Not a bad car at all. I purchased it as a newer car that had some miles on it. I went to the dealership when I was living in downtown Chicago and was going to college full time. I told the salesman that I wanted a reliable, sporty car that was small and had good gas milage that I was able to afford. The first car he showed me was the one I still own to this day and am happy with!

  Poor Stepchild to the Suburban - 2002 Chevrolet Astro

  Got the LS AWD (with leather and every available option) for family trips. No aftermarked flip-down video made for the model. Owned vehicle 6 months and has been in the shop 7 times, once to re-attach the gas tank! Rattles like garbage truck and parts coming apart on the interior. Had a 93 Astro that we drove all over the US with no problems. Get the impression that all the attention goes into SUV design and production. This could be a great vehicle.

  Decent (exterior) looking SUV with a Vileinterior and a Dibolical Gas Mileage to match. Having driven and owned a Mitsubishi Montero this is definately something that is unaceptable

  READ THIS, IT COULD SAVE YOUR LIFE! - 2002 Chevrolet Malibu

  I owned a 2002 Malibu LS. This car is very dangerous to drive. The brakes on these cars are a joke. After reading the other comments left about 2000 cars which have the exact same kind of braking system, I see there is obviously a manufacturers flaw. The reason I am even leaving a message is to warn anyone who is considering the purchase of this type of vehicle. I had a very bad accident due to brake failure. I had problems with the brakes 2 weeks after I purchased the car. The car was totalled in the accident & the air bags did not go off. I dont feel this car is safe by any stretch of the imagination.

  Too Easy - 2003 Chevrolet Suburban

  I just love the 03 Z71 exterior styling and suspension. Ride comfort is not compromised at all. Room is cavernous and the powered/heated leather seats are (driver/passenger) are a awesome. Too bad at time of purch, zero percent only avail at 24 month term.

  Get the Duramax! - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

  The Duramax diesel/ Allison tranny combo is great. Im getting 19-20 not towing & 12-13 pulling a 9500 lb trailer. The Duramax gives me power to spare. The diesel is the best thing out of GM in years. The ride is not bad considering the tow rating, which is better than Ford or Dodge.

  Simply Outstanding - 2001 Z71 Stepside - 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

  I bought my 2001 in 2006 because I really wanted a stepside. I found this Z71 4X4 and pulled the trigger. It had 89,000 on the odometer. Now it has 140,000. Ive driven it hard and it keeps coming back for more. One of the first things I added to it was a Flowmaster muffler with chrome tips. I get a thrill every time I fire it up.

  We live in southern California and plug-in electric cars get to use the HOV (car pool) lane even if they are the sole occupant. I drove the Volt twice and my wife drove it twice. Overall I was impressed with the technology and the electric range. But we just could not get over how cramped it felt, especially in the back seat. Just didnt feel safe with your head being just inches from the side window. I am not a Prius fan but I will say that Chevy could learn a thing or two about packaging by looking at the Prius. If this car was bigger and had more room, we likely would have bought it. Seems like Chevy was fixated on giving it a big electric range at the cost of interior space. I would have gladly traded 5-10 miles of range for a car that was bigger.
