Chevrolet sells an impressively wide range of vehicles, from subcompact hatchbacks to huge vans and SUVs. If you're looking for a reasonably priced vehicle, odds are that Chevy will have something to fit your needs.

Chevrolet got its start in 1911. After William C. Durant had been ousted from General Motors, he joined forces with Swiss-born racecar driver Louis Chevrolet to found the Chevrolet Motor Car Company. The company's first offering was the Classic Six. Introduced in 1912, this five-passenger touring sedan could top 65 mph, fast for the time. Chevrolet's storied bowtie logo -- reportedly inspired by the wallpaper of a Paris hotel room that Durant stayed at -- made its first appearance in 1914.

By 1918, Chevrolet's profitability allowed Durant to purchase enough shares in GM to regain control. Chevrolet became another division of GM, and was its largest volume division by the mid-1920s. By 1927, Chevrolet outsold rival Ford, with sales in excess of 1 million units.

In the mid-1930s Chevrolet introduced independent front suspension, which provided a smoother ride over the rough roads of the day. The 1940s saw continued success with affordable coupes, sedans and pickup trucks catering to American families, farmers and businessmen.

By the mid-1950s, Chevrolet, GM's entry-level division, had added a V8 engine, power steering and brakes, power windows and air-conditioning to its list of available features, allowing luxury for those on a tighter budget. Around this time the iconic Bel Air model -- available in coupe, sedan, convertible and wagon body styles -- proved very popular. The company introduced its alluring Corvette in 1953; the vehicle was the first mass-produced car with a fiberglass body.

The 1960s saw the unveiling of the popular, air-cooled Corvair compact, which held the distinction of being the first domestic production car with all-around independent suspension. That decade also witnessed the launch of the compact Nova, the midsize Chevelle and the sporty Camaro, the latter Chevrolet's answer to the wildly successful Ford Mustang. The Camaro proved an instant hit, comprising 10 percent of Chevrolet's total sales in 1967, its first year of production.

In the 1970s, Chevy responded to changing preferences by introducing small cars like the Vega and the Chevette, and by downsizing larger models such as the Caprice and Malibu. The company combated the market domination of foreign nameplates in the 1980s by rolling out the Cavalier. By the end of that decade, trucks and SUVs had started to become increasingly popular with the general consumer, and the brand's mid- and full-size models continue to this day to be some of the most popular on the road.

The '90s and the early 2000s saw the company raising the performance bar with its Corvette (notably the Z06 and, later, ZR1 variants) and reincarnated Impala SS. Chevrolet's Silverado pickup truck and Tahoe/Suburban SUVs continued to be hits as well. By 2010, the Camaro had returned to the lineup after a seven-year hiatus.

Modern times have seen Chevrolet make significant improvements in its small and midsize car models and introduce the Volt plug-in hybrid. The latter provides a nearly 40-mile range on electric power alone, and adds to the company's already well-rounded lineup of cars, trucks and SUVs. Though today's marketplace is very demanding, Chevrolet seems poised to remain a power player through its affordable and innovative vehicles.

    I got a great deal on an S-10, fully loaded. It runs great, love the sift on the fly 4 wheel drive and has plenty of cargo area.

    I have had this truck for over a year now, and it still performs the way it did the day I drove it off the lot. The thing I like about it the best is there is also a Western Snow plow available for it.

    This car is a joke I have four set of brakes and rotors a new fuel injection and now it needs a new intake gasket and the signal lights work half the time and forget them working when it rains. I will never buy chevy product again. And the gas gauge--dont work. THIS CAR IS JOKE!!! DONT BUY TOO MANY PROBLEMS I plan to trade this spring--I feel sorry for whoever buys the POS!!!!

    Sure, I worried about being the 35 year old fdork in the mini van, the mommie mobile, but for the ability to load 8 people or a hell of a lot of mulch, doors and other stuff (the second and third rows come out of my LS with 2nd row bucket seats), to hell with what 20 something women think. Seriously, its a good ride with good power and the price was right. I give hit high marks. However, since its a chevy...talk to me in a year.

    I have had this truck for about 3 months now (without hardware option) and it is the best vechile ride and the features that is offers are great and with the Z66 option it is well worth it. The XM sateillite radio is great as well . The Bose sound system in these truck is unbeleivable. This truck offers full inside interior not like some of the other trucks out on the market.

    Love the truck. However, constant "minor" problems need service. Dealer service is sub-par and they never give loaner vehicles. For a $45,000 truck it should be given. Chevy calls minor defects "normal". Water in the front lens, "normal". Loud buzzing from fuel pump "normal". Steering vibration "normal". Water leak in front passenger side of vehicle checked twice. Buy Infiniti/Lexus/Acura.Theyll treat you with respect. If/when you need service for Imports new loaners are provided. Also much better quality than Chevy & about the same price. Dont fall for "Buy American Crap" thats Big 3s hook & rationalization for poor quality & insults every American.

    It is a great car but make sure you get the rear view and lane alarm systems. The windows are small and vision is limited due to the windows. The car makes you feel like you are driving a fighter jet. The Apple Play and nav system are great. The displays are awesome and you can customize them. I got the RS package and the 8 speed automatic. I have had it for a week and I am really enjoying it. This is my first Chevrolet purchase.

    I have to admit, I traded in my Z28 for the Equinox so, I might be a little biased on the performance. Anyway, they compare as far as gas mileage is concerned. They both stink...other than that, the Equinox is a good vehicle.

  • Where have you been my whole life? - 2018 Chevrolet Traverse

    Over two months ago traded my 15 Traverse with 11K miles for an 18 Premiere Redline not because I wanted to, but because I had to! Dealer had just taken delivery and prepped......took my first test ride of this new vehicle with 8 miles on the clock. Twenty miles later, parked it taking up two parking spots and told the salesman to keep the keyfob in his pocket and dont let anyone else in it until I first dealt with the manager. Four hours later it was tail lights down the road. No idea why Chevy even badged this vehicle as a Traverse, likely for marketing reasons, only features in common with the older gen is they both have round tires. Sixty years later I realize how my father had felt when his new 58 Impala was replaced by Chevy with the totally redesigned, larger, wider, more powerful, stylish finned 59 Impala. It has been 10 years since Chevy introduced the Traverse and spent the time well gathering user data and complaints for improvement and saving all the new high tech innovations for this new iteration of a totally redesigned vehicle. Originally looked at the Acura MDX, but decide against it because the Chevy was significantly less costly with a control layout I found more suitable, and no nearby dealers in my area. Dont have time or space to go into all the details, but it took three re-reads of the owners manual and a few weeks of playing around to realize the capabilities of the Traverse. Just hit 2,200 miles and it has been flawless...cant find the keyfob half the time because the wife grabs them both and I get the truck. Every part of this vehicle is high tech and different from the previous gen. ------front, (2) rear, (2) side cameras, ultrasonics, radar for birds eye view of the vehicle, parking assist, auto braking, blind zone alert, lane keeper alert, pedestrian detection and braking, auto leveling headlights, "D" lens LED headlights with enough output to sunburn a deer, LED tail lights, all LED interior lighting, puddle lighting, multiple 8"/4" LCD screens, digital or analog readouts, 9 speed tranny, rear suspension design "squats" to prevents nose diving on a hard stop so the groceries dont hit you in the back of the head, combo self dimming rear view mirror with built in wide angle overlay from rear camera #2 - no head or seat backs in the display!, rear camera washers, motorized steering wheel/seat/mirror adjustments with memory for multiple drivers, active noise cancelling, soundproof windshield, new unobtrusive start/stop, keyless entry, variable ration power steering for ease of parking, ventilated disk brakes on all 4 wheels, 5000 lb towing with trailer braking and trailer anti sway, and a whole crap load of other creature features from large comfortable leather seating, second row heated seats that can tilt with a child seat still attached for third row entry, and third row seating that can actually seat adults, bathtub sized under the floor storage, internal compact spare tire storage, and a Nav system with 8" touchscreen that is accurate, understands voice commands and auto zooms the closer you get to the destination. The large 20" tires and suspension do not dive in a turn and the 310 hp V6 can do 0-60 in under 7 sec with no perceptible torque steer. New sunroof operates externally with automatic wind deflector. Limited space with dual sunroofs necessitates a sunshade tpe screen which is now opaque, not the former annoying screen....auto opening but manual shut - --but is you try to open the shade manually you had better read the manual which says to push the relase button and push up.....if you try to strong arm it back it will likely break.
