Chevrolet sells an impressively wide range of vehicles, from subcompact hatchbacks to huge vans and SUVs. If you're looking for a reasonably priced vehicle, odds are that Chevy will have something to fit your needs.

Chevrolet got its start in 1911. After William C. Durant had been ousted from General Motors, he joined forces with Swiss-born racecar driver Louis Chevrolet to found the Chevrolet Motor Car Company. The company's first offering was the Classic Six. Introduced in 1912, this five-passenger touring sedan could top 65 mph, fast for the time. Chevrolet's storied bowtie logo -- reportedly inspired by the wallpaper of a Paris hotel room that Durant stayed at -- made its first appearance in 1914.

By 1918, Chevrolet's profitability allowed Durant to purchase enough shares in GM to regain control. Chevrolet became another division of GM, and was its largest volume division by the mid-1920s. By 1927, Chevrolet outsold rival Ford, with sales in excess of 1 million units.

In the mid-1930s Chevrolet introduced independent front suspension, which provided a smoother ride over the rough roads of the day. The 1940s saw continued success with affordable coupes, sedans and pickup trucks catering to American families, farmers and businessmen.

By the mid-1950s, Chevrolet, GM's entry-level division, had added a V8 engine, power steering and brakes, power windows and air-conditioning to its list of available features, allowing luxury for those on a tighter budget. Around this time the iconic Bel Air model -- available in coupe, sedan, convertible and wagon body styles -- proved very popular. The company introduced its alluring Corvette in 1953; the vehicle was the first mass-produced car with a fiberglass body.

The 1960s saw the unveiling of the popular, air-cooled Corvair compact, which held the distinction of being the first domestic production car with all-around independent suspension. That decade also witnessed the launch of the compact Nova, the midsize Chevelle and the sporty Camaro, the latter Chevrolet's answer to the wildly successful Ford Mustang. The Camaro proved an instant hit, comprising 10 percent of Chevrolet's total sales in 1967, its first year of production.

In the 1970s, Chevy responded to changing preferences by introducing small cars like the Vega and the Chevette, and by downsizing larger models such as the Caprice and Malibu. The company combated the market domination of foreign nameplates in the 1980s by rolling out the Cavalier. By the end of that decade, trucks and SUVs had started to become increasingly popular with the general consumer, and the brand's mid- and full-size models continue to this day to be some of the most popular on the road.

The '90s and the early 2000s saw the company raising the performance bar with its Corvette (notably the Z06 and, later, ZR1 variants) and reincarnated Impala SS. Chevrolet's Silverado pickup truck and Tahoe/Suburban SUVs continued to be hits as well. By 2010, the Camaro had returned to the lineup after a seven-year hiatus.

Modern times have seen Chevrolet make significant improvements in its small and midsize car models and introduce the Volt plug-in hybrid. The latter provides a nearly 40-mile range on electric power alone, and adds to the company's already well-rounded lineup of cars, trucks and SUVs. Though today's marketplace is very demanding, Chevrolet seems poised to remain a power player through its affordable and innovative vehicles.

  • Smooth luxury tank - 2013 Chevrolet Suburban

I love my suburban. It’s a great secure feeling to be in a strong, durable, reliable vehicle. My two kids learned to drive in this car and allbe it’s massive size the convenient adjustable gas pedal and seat allows even the shortest of people to get in and raise the seat high enough to see over the hood. The only issue I have is that it doesn’t have as much clearance under the vehicle as the older models use to built into the standard vehicle....and I refuse to pay to get a lift kit. Additionally I wish the NAV console was located slightly higher for ease of seeing while driving.

C5s are probably the most car you can get for the money. They now average between $15,000 and 19,000 dollars. They are on a par, performance wise with some of the worlds super-cars. Accelerates, 0 to 60 in 4.9 seconds equals a Ferrari F2. Corners like a Formula racer, stops like nothing else with huge brakes, it is simply the funnest car to drive, unless you step up to a C6 or C7. Supremely comfortable, easy on fuel, fun to work on, this is the best car Ive ever owned. Get some of this!

  • Best for the bucks - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Have had my Nox several months and is the best SUV for the money on the market. Goes where you want to go, does what you ask, and takes all you want to take inside it. Gas mileage was an issue until was broken in, now is good. Strongly endorse it as a mid size with big size room.

  • Disappointed - 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo
    By -

Beautiful, fun car to drive. Very disappointed in the resale value. Have had catalytic converter replaced (under warranty), PassLock security system failed, BCM unit went bad, power steering and brakes needed replaced, cooling system problems, and ignition system had to be replaced, all within the first 60,000 miles. Now the windshield fogs up, no cause detected by 2 certified mechanics. Fuel mileage is better than normal with 26 city, 35 highway.

  • Awesome truck - 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
    By -

Am very pleased with this truck. My first time owning a full size pickup, so far I put 1200 miles on and no problems. Am averaging 17.7 mpg around town. Will be taking on a trip later this summer, hope to improve on that number.

  • My Astro Replacement Van - 2015 Chevrolet City Express
    By -

My Chevy City Express van is so versatile with utility, great gas mileage (34 mpg combined!) as long as you do not stomp at take off like most people! The 4 cylinder engine is plenty powerful enough even with a full 1500 lb. load! Manueverability is excellent too! I plan on customizing the interior and adding chrome wheels against the pipe black paint. EASY load/unload everything! My wife and I are planning to take it with our bicycles to see/ride the U.S.A. in our Chevrolet! :) Lovin it!

  • My Favorite GM Car - 2017 Chevrolet Cruze
    By -

I have owned many GM cars over the last 55 years. I always was pleased but my Cruze Premier model exceeds all the others. The new styling is very eye catching. Mine has the RS package and has all the extras available and love them all. Mine has the two tone calihari/ black interior and have had many, many compliments. The color plus the interior makes the car very eye catching. I have had a lot of individuals see the front chevy bow tie and ask what model is it. When I ask what do they think it is most get it wrong. Until you see the premier cruze badge in back that is the definitive clue. It is a joy to drive and has gotten 41/42 miles per gallon on long trips. Other cruze owners when they see it actually tell me they wish they had bought the Premier addition. It has all the bells and whistles and not cheap but you get exactly what the more expensive GM models I.E. (Cadillac and top of the line Buicks) offer for much less. Maybe it is just me but I love it.

  • 2007 Tahoe - 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe
    By -

I drove the Tahoe from GA to NC and it was a very comfortable trip. The gas mileage was surprising to me at 20 mpg on the highway. The steering wheel controls are very easy to use.

  • Awesome Car - 1996 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

This is an amazing car if you dont beat on it, and constantly floor it all the time. Awesome suspension, tune ups every so often, keep the oil changed every 3,000 miles or 3 months, comfort in this car is awesome, interior design is my favorite
