This Year's Model Updates:

The self-proclaimed "king of the full-size sport-utility segment" was completely redesigned last year, yet 2001 still sees improvements to the powertrain. Chevy has upped the horsepower rating of the Vortec 6000 to 320, and 360 foot-pounds of torque is now made at 4,000 revs. A new 8.1-liter engine cranks out 340-horsepower at 4,200 rpm and 455 foot-pounds of torque at 3,200 rpm. You can maintain a relationship with your mechanic on a less intimate level, thanks to an increase in the recommended oil change interval from 7,500 miles to 10,000 miles.

Pros:
  • Choice of powerful Vortec V8s, cavernous cargo space, room for nine.
Cons:
  • Gas guzzler, its massive size a liability in urban areas.

  • Great SUV - 2001 Chevrolet Suburban

I bought this vehicle new and it has been great. It has 85,000 miles and only major repair has been a leaking water pump. It is great for long trips with plenty of room for the family, baggage and equipment.

  • Love the Car hate the MPG - 2001 Chevrolet Suburban

I absolutely love my Suburban. it is very roomy and comfortable. The only complaint is the MPG. We get 10- 14 mpg. The cost of gas ends up being so much a month it is almost like having a %500 monthly car bill. I will probably sell it and find a different vehicle just due to MPG.

  • Runs like a Champ - 2001 Chevrolet Suburban

Purchased as a towable behind the RV with 60,000 miles on the clock. Now I have 129,000 and use it as a daily driver. Cant beat the ride, utility, reliability and safety. Have two kids at home and it stores everything.Got rid of my daily driver (Had $30K invested ad didnt need the truck anymoe) and love that I dont have a truck payment. Everyone says it will go 25o,000 miles, other than routine maintenance...I think they are right. Mileage is fine, if you are not abusive with the gas pedal, it gets 12 to 15 MPG, with no monthly payment, its ok. Go for one, any year because they keep getting better. MB

Bought the Z71 from Texas Direct Auto on eBay sight unseen in 2004 to replace a conversion van. I must say that I have been pleasantly surprised by this truck. Approaching 110,000 miles and the only problem has been a cracked connector on the gas tank (had to replace entire tank). Powerful, quick, and very comfortable on long trips. Towed a 21 boat with no problem (hard to tell the boat was even there). Gas mileage is not too bad for a full sized SUV. Only complaints are the amount of leg room for the front passenger (my Expedition has alot more)and small plastic parts in the interiors keep falling off. All in all, I would definitely buy this SUV again

  • Best SUV and a low cost to operate - 2001 Chevrolet Suburban
    By -

My Suburban was purchased used in 2001. The car had 18,000 miles when purchased. I use this car for work since the day I purchsed it. My average gas millage is a poor 16mpg but concidering the low maintenance cost to operate I feel Like I get 40mpg. The car has 428,000 miles and rides like a new car. Here is a list of my repairs. 160K first tune up done by myself. 210k & 400k a fuel pump gave out (850.00 ea. installed). At 250K the Air conditioner was replaced. At 340,000 I replace engine with a used 60K mile engine installed for 1,200.00. At 360K trans died (800.00 used and installed) Replaced back shocks and at 400,000 replaced rear rodors and pads, front rotor is original.

  • World Class - 2001 Chevrolet Suburban

Best vehicle Ive ever purchased. Weve taken 3 vacation trips 2 to Florida, 1 to our nations capitol just after 9/11. The interior creature comforts in ours made every trip enjoyable. We felt confident on the mechanial reliablity, and have had no problems. With over 88,000 miles traveled, to countless soccer, baseball, and footbal practices, and games. My wife thought it was too big at first. Now she has claimed as her own. The kids, and dog love it too. Some of her friends prefer it to their vehicle because of the heated seats, and cargo space (etc.) when they go shopping. We have others who are amazed at the ride, and condition for a vehicle. Someday I hope to claim it as mine own again.

  • Surprise! Great gas mileage - 2001 Chevrolet Suburban

Everyone I talk to groans when they think of a Suburban and the gas it must use. Well, I want to set the record straight that I get 17-20 mpg, and most of the time 18mpg. Im an at- home Mom, and my driving is a combo of freeway and side streets. Its been super reliable, and my dealer threw in free oil changes for life, which I love.

  • Hate to see you go... - 2001 Chevrolet Suburban

I love my Suburban. It seems to work for erverything except fuel economy. I have enjoyed my car for five years. I expected to keep it longer. At this time the reliability is not doing well. At 90k I lost the transmission. I have felt extremely safe in this large vehicle.

This is my 3rd Suburban and I have loved all three, keeping all until well over 100000 miles. There is significant improvement in this models drive train over my 1990 model. However, the interior is not worthy of the price of the vehicle. I did not opt for leather seats. The fabric is worn in rather strange places due to tightness of fit and several plastic molding on the inside have either come off, or have broken when something was dropped on the piece. The latch for the rear fold down broke after only 3 years and the gray is coming off the dash. I love the convenience and the haulability of people, dogs and other stuff. Have Suburban, will travel!
