This Year's Model Updates:

The Silverado 2500HD now sports a new front fascia and revised side moldings and taillights. Top-of-the-line models also get power-folding heated mirrors with puddle lamps and turn signal indicators. On the inside, the Silverado offers numerous entertainment options including a Bose stereo system (with rear-seat controls on crew cab models), XM Satellite Radio and a rear-passenger DVD-based entertainment system (crew cab models only). The instrument panel and center console have been redesigned, and Chevrolet has added new seats, a more comprehensive driver information center and a dual-zone climate control system. On the hardware side, the standard 6.0-liter V8 gets electronic throttle control, as well as the ability to run exclusively on compressed natural gas (CNG) or a mix of CNG and gasoline.

Pros:
  • Powerful engine lineup, multiple drivetrain configurations, capable brakes, substantial towing and hauling capacities.
Cons:
  • Spotty build quality, mediocre interior materials.

  • Chevy Duramax Diesel Rocks - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

I had a 90 Chevy work truck then switched to the Ford F250 Super Duty. Now Im back to Chevy with the 2500HD 4X4 Diesel. I found what I was looking for; all the things that the Ford didnt have. Much more comfortable ride. The LB tracks wonderfully on the interstate at 80-85 mph. Better fuel economy. The diesel has lots of power and acceptable acceleration. Easy to get in and out of and also low enough to work out of. The plastic in the grill seems soft and easily scratches with bug impacts. The tires and wheels are purposely small to max out the torque, but they look too small for the truck. When washed and clean it gets positive stares.

The 2500HD is head and shoulders above the 1500 in capabilities. Towing is much improved with the 6.6 diesel as is fuel economy unloaded (currently at 18.3 mpg all unloaded, I track all fuel use, miles and hours). Build quality has improved, with a better "feel" to the interior. The information center has been replaced with a truely informative data center. You can track all vehicle use, business vehicle use and personal vehicle use, by selecting options. Diesel sound is noticable but in no way objectionable. From the inside, you cant tell its a diesel.

I love towing with this truck as I have the 8.1 with the Allison Transmission. I did have a problem with wind noise that was taken care of at the dealership by re-sealing around the windsheild. Fuel economy is poor, 11 empty and 7 to 8 towing 8500lb trailer in hilly conditions. I think I will go with the Duramax the next time around.

  • A good towing truck - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

Good points: Crew cab comfortable for 5 people. Towing capability is superb. Quiet for diesel. Bad points: Alarm for "Service 4WD" go off at 1,100 miles. Limp to dealer and he resets computer. Turns out its a known software glitch. Still, I was hundreds of miles from home and it shouldnt happen to a new truck. The tranny has a temp gauge but its separate from other gauges so you have to keep looking back and forth. No huge deal but a small ergonomic detail that could be improved. Otherwise, we are very happy with it. Will let you all know the score after 10,000 miles. We are at roughly 2,000 miles now. Joe.

I had to take the Truck in 4 times to get the AC worked on, they replace the compresor once and still takes 4 to 5 minutes to start to get cold air from the AC system. NO good when you live in Florida. I see alot of people with chevrolet truck with one burn driving light and now I join them 600 Hour on the Enging and already changing a bulb, I dont think is very good qualaty. and last thing. DO NOT drive your truck in the woods, any brush will scratch your pain, again low quality.

  • Love my Chevy HD. This is one bad boy. - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

I love this truck! The 6.0 litre is powerful and smooth. With a locking differential and 4.10 gears this baby hooks for a 2wd. The one big complaint is bad MPG I average 12 to 13 no matter how I drive it; city or hwy. As far as its intended purpose it huals everything I want with no effort! Including, but not limited to cornering at 60-65 with a big heavy trailer and tractor very little sway and with the HD trans and cooler it never gets over 160 degrees with a load. Interior very spacious and well laid out. The suspension is tight and rides a little rough with no load but who cares its a HD.

heater, wouldn t shut off for about amonth. service 4 wheel drive light comes on often, dealer checked it, said its ok, service brakes comes on, thats ok too. memory seats dont hold memory, heated seats dont come on right away, steering wheel knock developed. paint comming of radio knobs, and steering wheel controls, compass likes to point southwest, expensive piece of junk, lists $39,000. G.M., your done! as far as Im concerned.

  • Excellent Truck - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

This truck is the best. I cant say one bad thing about it. I own 5 Chevys and have never had one single problem with any of them. GM is superior to all other vehcile manufactures. My Silverado is great. I advise all looking for a new truck to head to your local Chevy dealer and take one for a spin. Youll love it!
