This Year's Model Updates:

The Silverado 2500HD now sports a new front fascia and revised side moldings and taillights. Top-of-the-line models also get power-folding heated mirrors with puddle lamps and turn signal indicators. On the inside, the Silverado offers numerous entertainment options including a Bose stereo system (with rear-seat controls on crew cab models), XM Satellite Radio and a rear-passenger DVD-based entertainment system (crew cab models only). The instrument panel and center console have been redesigned, and Chevrolet has added new seats, a more comprehensive driver information center and a dual-zone climate control system. On the hardware side, the standard 6.0-liter V8 gets electronic throttle control, as well as the ability to run exclusively on compressed natural gas (CNG) or a mix of CNG and gasoline.

Pros:
  • Powerful engine lineup, multiple drivetrain configurations, capable brakes, substantial towing and hauling capacities.
Cons:
  • Spotty build quality, mediocre interior materials.

  • Fuel Injector problems - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

Paid all cash and had hopes for many years of good use. At about 90K we had fuel injector problems which were repaired under warranty. 50K later at 140,000 we began to see smoke from the tail pipe. Took the car into Chevy service and was told that two or three injectors were beginning to fail, but that they still tested to be acceptable by GM standards. The car billowed smoke, a few weeks later we found fuel in our motor oil. Still no budge from GM to repair the injectors which were covered under a extended warranty but still tested within their standards. GM didnt care if we blew our motor as it wasnt covered. Were done with GM.

Finally an alternative truck for those caught btw wanting a diesel or gas power. The 300hp gas 6.0L packs a hard punch for doing most anything you need it too do without paying 6-7k more for an option you really will never capitalize on. Super job GM on a heavy duty suspension that glides across the pavement.

I thought this was for me. I get to drive the car and she takes the truck. The 8.1 L engine combined with the allison automatic is perfect. Get 12+ mpg on the road and 9 to 10 pulling the 30 trailer. This is much better than my 93 ford ever did. The allison does make noise at low speeds but that is to be expected with heaver gears. We have made several trips and it performed perfectly.

0 problems-gets better mpg than Dodge or Ford. Can put over 5,000 lbs. in the bed and drive right along. Pulls my boat like its not even there (6.0 v8) no need for the big block. Heavy duty, heavy truck, load it down if you want and go right along!

  • Best 2500 or 3500 out there - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

I had a 1500 GMc, I had an f150 supercrew. I towed my trailer with the Ford and eventually realized I needed a 3/4 ton truck for towing a travel trailer. These HD trucks are basically 1 ton trucks that are badged as 2500s. These are NOT upgraded 1500s like a regular 2500 is.The base 6.0 litre is fine for all but the most demanding diesel required tasks. The truck hauls everything you can put in it and tows and plows snow like a mother. yeah gas mileage can suck but hey it is what it is...and a lot more. Quality is great on mine. I never open the hood except for washer fluid.

  • I Love my Duramax - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

I have enjoyed my truck very much and it has not had 1 problem yet. Mine has been modified with a performance module, exhaust system and a air induction system. My corrected mileage as I have 305x70 tires is 19.5 to 20 mpg in the city and about 22-23 mpg on the highway. This is not bad from a truck that is running over 400 hp.

  • One Nice Truck! - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

I just bought this truck about a month ago. Only problem was a bad serpentine belt. The power is very nice. I have the 6.0L and I cant feel any weight that I haul - Its like its not there. I used to have a 94 Chevy Cheyenne with a 305, and anytime that I put even just passengers in it, it felt lugged. I love the interior - feels like I am sitting in a recliner in a living room. I average about 10mpg when I am not towing, but hey, its an HD. Love the 3000lbs+ payload. Its very cozy on the highway.

Ive had my truck for 2 months now, and it is great. My only regret is that I didnt look harder for one with a manual transmission. Not that the auto is bad, but I only get about 13 mpg and a top speed of about 96 mph. I looked at every Chevy and GMC dealer in the north half of Dallas, though, so its not likely that I would have found one. My only complaint is the 26 gallon fuel tank - They have the same tank for the 4.3L V6 as the 6.0L V8.

  • Strong player - 2003 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD

95% of my driving is on highways, in all sorts of weather, over hill and dale. Does great in rain and snow. Pulls strong right from the start (4.10 gears), but milage suffers - avg 12.2 MPG. Better MPG with the 3.73 gears, or get the DuraMax. Quiet ride, Bose / XM satellite combo is amazing, very comfy seats, rides great for a HD truck. Heater is really hot, A/C is mediocre at best. Aux driving lights are actually useful. One gripe - the weld job on the bed is terrible - top of the bed rails are full of ripples. Besides that - Overall, very pleased.

Great riding and looking truck, rides much better than Ford and Dodge. The crew cab is plenty spacious for 6. All shined up the truck looks great with chrome tube step bars. The Duramax diesel is a great engine, very quiet and powerful. Instrumentation is better than any other truck, period. Real gauges, with numbers (are you listening Dodge?), are the only way to go, not fake gauges like on the Fords. The bench seat console is very comfortable, much better than the armrests on the bucket seats. The RDS radio is cool, shows what song and station are on. Dual zone climate control is neat, cold for me, warm for the Mrs. Id buy again, very nice truck, very nice ride.
