This Year's Model Updates:

After a complete redesign last year, few changes make news for 2000. Most substantial is the addition of an optional fourth access door to extended cab models. The already potent Vortec 4800 and 5300 V8 engines make more power, and programmable door locks can be instructed to unlock automatically when the Silverado is shut off. A Sportside cargo box is available on 1500 LT models, and 1500 4WD trucks can be equipped with wheel flares this year. LS and LT trucks get a standard electrochromic self-dimming rearview mirror with compass and exterior temperature display, and a soft tonneau cover is available from the factory.

Pros:
  • Fourth-door access standard on extended cab models, strong 4800 and 5300 V8 engines, programmable power door locks, disc brakes at all four corners.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior materials, sketchy build quality.

I upgraded from an S-10 to a Silverado two and a half years ago, and Ive been very satisfied. Ample power, smooth ride, plenty of room, and so far, no major problems. I am amazed by the engines performance. Ive caught myself several times going down the highway doing 80mph without realizing it. Thank God for cruise control! The truck offers great visibility with its hieght and great mirrors. With a load of mulch, this thing rides like a Cadillac!

This is the best looking Truck on the road today. They messed up when they (chevrolet) changed the front grill to what it is today. (man what kind of drugs were they on?) It handles like a dream and looks like one to. I love mine and will not buy anything else!!!!!!!

Wish I had this 5.3L in my 95. Too many typical problems: steering knock at low speed turning, steering wheel shake at highway speed, touchy ABS, poor ride on bumps (CD will skip on interstate). My 95 with the 350 and five speed was superior in every way except acceleration. Bought used; GMC dealer refused to acknowledge the problems. (Also had 88 and 92.)

  • Very Dependable - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I bought this truck new in May of 01. I currently have 276,000 miles on it and it runs like a top. I get 17+ MPG. I regularly change oil/filter and fuel filter and keep tires rotated. Ive only had to replace the fuel pump once (although the fuel gauge was bad for the last two years). Ive put two sets of brakes, two alternators, two ujoints, one catalytic converter, two window motors. Overall, this truck has been great. Keep in mind: 276,000 miles and still counting. Recently gota a speeding ticket and officer wrote "08 Silverado" (Thats how good it looks)

  • Questionable on the quality - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I enjoyed the ride and comfort of my Silverado LT, but it seems to have a real problem in the electronics department. 4 wheel drive and fuel sensors have gone out twice ($750 fuel sensor replace). Not sure I would buy another.

  • Should have been recalled - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Had intermittent problems with surge, no codes ever showed up. Emergency brake flaw is a joke, should have been recalled. Since 100k ABS lights come on at odd times, learned of corrosion on wheel sensor. Clutch pedal does not adjust well.

  • Love my Chevy - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Ive owned this truck for 8 years now and it now has around 150,000 miles on it. It has been a great truck with very minimal repairs. My fuel pump went out at 120,000 miles and my alternator just went out at 149,000. Both were original parts! I live in Alaska and haul my snowmachines, 4-wheelers, and boat all over the state, and the transmission has lasted 150,000 miles and still going strong. I took off my 1/2 ton leaf springs and swapped them with 3/4 ton springs to help with heavy loads. Other than that, I have not modified the truck at all. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a truck at a good affordable price.

  • 2000 Silverado 1500 LT - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I have owned two silverados in the pass few years. My first silverado was a 2002 Chevy Silverado 1500 LS. I enjoyed driving that truck while I owned it. I sold it due to gas mileage and being a college student. I ended up buying a civic for the excellent gas mileage. The gas mileage was nice and all but I soon realized I needed to be back in a full size truck regardless of gas mileage. I then purchased a 2000 Chevy Silverado Lt edition. I quickly fell in love with the truck. It was basically identical to my LS except having a few more features.
