  • Miss the old 89. - 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

We owned an 89 Chevy pickup and loved it, even at 110k miles, it still ran great. A very tight machine. We made the mistake in assuming Chevy would continue the tradition when we bought the 01. Engine makes a knocking sound from day one that the dealership mechanic "couldnt hear". Makes the sound to this day. Performance is sluggish and youd figure if you have slow performance, at least the gas mileage would be good. Wrong. 12- 15mpg. I guess we got spoiled with the 89 p/u truck; wish we still had it.

  • Best Vehicle Ive ever owned - 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

This truck has been perfect in every way. Unfortunately my commute suddenly got 34 miles longer each way 3 years after getting it. I havent yet used it enough to have my first problem. I think I have only waxed it once. I expect it to last me 15 more years or 200k miles. I like the new ones styling better but they are always cutting corners as I noticed the chrome is reduced on the front bumpers and the mirrors.

This is an almost perfect truck. Comfort, handsome design, and a combined mileage 17.5 MPG. Powerful precise steering, automatic transfer case. Almost perfect. The bad, cold start knock (annoying). Weak intermedate steering shaft (replaced). Known for bad fuel guage sending units (hasn`t happened yet). Nothings perfect and the good more than offsets the bad. Best truck I ever drove. What`s bad, the bad is silly stuff GM should have got right in the first place.

  • 4 wd noise - 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

With all the snow this winter I had the chance to really use the 4 wd but there is a noise when it is engaged, had it into the dealer today, they say that this is NORMAL noise because od the autotrac system.

  • Its OK - 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

At 1200 miles the steering rack had to be replaced. The gas mileage is poor as well.

Absolute lemon. Trying to sell it!

  • Great Truck, but - 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

This is a great truck. Very high build quality and still drives like a new truck. Usual problem with the parking brake dying early and at about 70000 miles echoes of the piston slap problem. New brakes cost $1300 at 120000 miles partially due to problems complicated by the parking brake issue. At 125000 Ive got a minor but annoying rear main seal leak.

  • # 1 In My Book - 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I bought my 2000 silveraldo extended cab sportside new. I have had no problems out of it. I think it is wonderful. I can not go anywhere, without someone telling me how nice it is, plus so many have offered to buy it from me. It is not for sale...lol I have the 4.8 engine, and it truely has the power. The cab room is amazing, and I love the 4 doors. I have pictures of my 2wd in snow up to the top of the wheel whales, yet I have never had it stuck. I have been able tp go, when I seen others stuck. That makes it the right truck for me. It is dependable, yet it is sleek in design, and is very durable.

  • not bad over all - 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Bought used with 29,000 miles on it and it now has 53,000. During that time I have had to replace the fuel pump and a rear brake caliper. The v6 has been reliable and has decent power for everyday driving, but the fuel mileage is no better than the v8. 4x4 system works fine and has done well in mud and snow. Tire wear, steering, and ride comfort have all been very good. I am satisfied for the most part but if I were going to buy again I would get the v8. I got the v6 because it had a cheaper sticker price, but Im not saving anything on gas. It uses just as much as v-8 chevys that I had previously.
