This Year's Model Updates:

After a complete redesign last year, few changes make news for 2000. Most substantial is the addition of an optional fourth access door to extended cab models. The already potent Vortec 4800 and 5300 V8 engines make more power, and programmable door locks can be instructed to unlock automatically when the Silverado is shut off. A Sportside cargo box is available on 1500 LT models, and 1500 4WD trucks can be equipped with wheel flares this year. LS and LT trucks get a standard electrochromic self-dimming rearview mirror with compass and exterior temperature display, and a soft tonneau cover is available from the factory.

Pros:
  • Fourth-door access standard on extended cab models, strong 4800 and 5300 V8 engines, programmable power door locks, disc brakes at all four corners.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior materials, sketchy build quality.

I love my Silverdo! The very powerful 5.3 is great to drive. I know when Im pulling my boat or towing my camper, the power is always sufficient. I also took on a F-150 and smoked him. It is the greatest truck Chevy ever built.

Love this truck,at 48,800 miles, it has been wonderful! Bought new, will keep until it wears out! Traded 1999 Ford F-150 4x4 for this and what an improvement! Just purchased first set of new tires.

Great truck. I own the Z71, No real problems after 75,000. Only been in the shop once for repair. 4WDR console went out after 30,000 and A/C drainage clogged so flooded the baseboards. Tranny clunk when shifting into reverse. Engine runs great and plenty of power while getting about 18mpg. Interior is more comfortable than most cars especially the back seat, after driving the Dodge and Ford this is a caddy. Doesnt have to try and look like a big rig to impress, does all that under the hood.

Bought new in 00 and other than the front wheel bearings and the crank sensor replaced I have not had any problems with it. 184k, repeat 184k, mostly HWY driving averaging 16 mpg in winter to 18 in warmer weather and not a drop of oil is used. I tow a 19ft runabout and there is plenty of power even later with the high mileage. Piston slap when cold starting is somewhat annoying, but service techs have said that it is common and does not cause damage. This truck will be driven by me until it croaks and then I will more than likely replace the engine or whatever else needs to be done. Transmission flushed every 60k or so does wonders. Great truck. Every Ford owner wishes they were so lucky..

I bought this truck brand new and drove it for ten years. I gave it to my son who now drives it to work. It has almost 200,000 miles and has never had any major repairs. I replace rack and pinion steering at 195,000 miles cost $200.00 thats all, not bad.

  • Better than the RAM - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
    By -

I had a 1967 RAM 1500 LTD 4WD prior to the 2000 Silverado. The RAM had two breakdowns in the 2nd year. A fuel pump and battery. When I shopped the 2000 mofdel year the RAM could not be gotten with heated seats and electric seat adjustment on both front seats. The Chevy could. I find the Chevy to more "car" like in comfort and driving. Also the lrger engine is more peppy and seems to do better on mioleage. I find the Chevy to be put togrthrr better in the fine details. Ill take teh Chevy in 2004 also.

the ultimate work and ride truck is chevy. Its vortec motor is good as it gets for a light duty truck. the horses are there when you need them, and tame when you dont.the extra door is great for my kids, tools dog whatever you need in the back. Ive worked my truck hard rode back and forth too Texas and its still going strong. You want a truck you can depend on chevys siveraldo is it. thanks James Holman truck owner

  • Pretty good half ton - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
    By -

Pros: this is a very dependable truck. the 5.3L that i have in my Z71 is bulletproof compared to the Prone to head gasket repair 5.7L. The powertrain is a good 4 speed trans with a single stage torque converter, it shifts smooth and in tow/haul mode very strong and fast like you want it. The interior has plenty of room for an extended cab and the ebony leather is a nice luxury touch. For a half ton pickup its a great strong ride thats stiff like you want a pickup but softer than the other halftons for its time. Im definitely sold on the Z71 silverados, my wife wants one for her next vehicle so it looks like shes sold on it too.
