This Year's Model Updates:

After a complete redesign last year, few changes make news for 2000. Most substantial is the addition of an optional fourth access door to extended cab models. The already potent Vortec 4800 and 5300 V8 engines make more power, and programmable door locks can be instructed to unlock automatically when the Silverado is shut off. A Sportside cargo box is available on 1500 LT models, and 1500 4WD trucks can be equipped with wheel flares this year. LS and LT trucks get a standard electrochromic self-dimming rearview mirror with compass and exterior temperature display, and a soft tonneau cover is available from the factory.

Pros:
  • Fourth-door access standard on extended cab models, strong 4800 and 5300 V8 engines, programmable power door locks, disc brakes at all four corners.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior materials, sketchy build quality.

Very, very reliable vehicle. Driven in snow, on beach, through woods, on the farm, and it has never let me down. Did have to have the steering rack replaced ($400) and the driveshaft needs U-joints now. Same anoying piston slap everyone complains about, but the truck is solid and does everything I expect it to.

I looked at Ford, Dodge, and Toyota and this is the best of the bunch. Ive owned Fords and will never buy another one. Great ride for a truck. Service at my local dealership is great. My next truck will also be GM.

I have the Red with silver, one coplaint is that everybody must of got that color as well. I love everything about mine except the sun visors, they are useless, unless you sit with the seat all the way forward. The 5.3 is a very snappy motor, it gets 18 mpg on the highway.

  • love it, but could be better - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Great utility pick up in a 2WD. Plenty of get up and go when you need it, even with the 4800 vs the 5300 v8 engine. Tons of room in the extended cab carries my two kids in car seats with plenty of room to spare. Great comfortable large front power seats cater to even the most picky passenger. Great truck all around.

  • Great Truck Overall - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I have towed and hauled heavily with this truck and have had no major problems. The only problems I have had is the driver side window motor needed to be replaced after about 4 years and the fuel gauge dances around due to a bad sending unit which I have not replaced. Gas mileage is average for a truck this size. Id have to say that I amd very satisfied with the truck overall. It has so far been very reliable. Just replaced the original tires at 77,000 miles. I havent notice any noise or squeaks in the interior as some have noted. Did have a squeaky powersteering belt but that has been fixed.

  • Very Few Problems - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

One of the best trucks I have ever owned. not nearly the probs others have reported. I have 60K and still get 20hwy and 17 city, 10mpg while towing 24 travel trailer with the 5.3L. change oil every 3k, still have 50% brakes +. Its paid for and with the price of anything new why get one? GM support has always been less than stellar. Maybe its the fact it was built in Canada, All the problem trucks were built in the us
