This Year's Model Updates:

Coming off a redesign last year, the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado is unchanged other than the addition of satellite radio as standard equipment and an optional integrated trailer brake controller.

Pros:
  • Refined and very quiet ride, pleasing fit and finish inside, seats are comfortable for long drives, comprehensive list of safety equipment.
Cons:
  • Larger turning circle than most rivals, mediocre interior storage and cupholders.

  • 4500 Awsome Miles and Counting - 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

This truck is an absolute pleasure to drive. The 5.3L engine is strong although the transmission shifts could be tighter. The handling is more car than truck like. Weve had a rough winter in the northeast but the Silverado handled the snow and ice with out a problem. Fuel mileage is 18.5mpg on the highway and 14 to 15mpg in town, but I knew what I was getting when I went with the 5.3L engine. The build quality on this truck is second to none.

I have had my Silverado for 3 years now. I bought it brand new. So far I have had NO problems with this truck. I absolutely love it.

  • 2008 silverado 1500 - 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Overall a great truck, there are a few problems though. Glad I got the extended warranty. Just under 60k and it stopped running with reduced engine power code. Five months later just over 60k stopped running again same code. Both times dealer could not find a problem, reset computer and gave it back. Have a thumping in trans or rear end, cant find that either. The passengers side door lock no longer works by the power switch. Great gas mileage, 22 mpg hwy. Great power when running.

  • Very Disappointed - 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

As much as I like the ride, comfort, power and gas mileage of this vehicle, its extremely unreliable. In the past 6 weeks, Ive had the vehicle in the shop 4 times (14 days total) for various problems that have required major work on the transmission and engine. I have had various other problems with the transmission and drivetrain in the past that the dealership has not been able to fix, or refused to fix under warranty. Am done buying GM products!

  • GM -Finally- got it right - For Now - 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I purchased two new GM vehicles in 2008, a Cadillac STS AWD and a Silverado 1500 LTZ 4WD. The quality of workmanship was the best Ive every seen in my 62 years. 0 defects, good fitment, quality throughout. As good over better than any foreign car or truck Ive every been exposed to. Thinks I, "Theyve finally got it right".

  • poor quality - 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

bought this truck as a demo with 6000 miles rides nice 4/4 works good put 10000 per year on truck, seats are falling apart, lint everywhere, back door handles falling off, paint peeling, I picked this truck over a toyota, because of good deals from GM i had also bought a 2004 silverado that had numerous power steering problems, should have gone with my gut and got the toyota, next truck will be a ford or toyota, ive given GM enough business

  • Great Truck - 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

First off I will say I only buy GM vehicles. I bought this off lease loaded with every single option in good as new condition for just under $25k with 29k miles on it. I traded in my 2003 silverado for this one. This is hands down the nicest vehicle I have ever owned. Very comfortable and quiet ride , beautiful interior , pretty good gas mileage and tons of power from the 5.3 v8. The only problem I have is with the exterior design. While the truck looks great it is a little lower in the front which makes going through those snow banks a little difficult. I dont want to crack the plastic in the front. My 2003 had better ground clearance. Great truck for the money..

  • LT Crew 5.3 V8 2wd - 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Traded my 05 of similar features. The new 08 is years ahead in quality. The ride, noise and comfort are extremely good. Very quiet at even 70+mph. Back seat comfort is better than most cars.

  • Still running great and smooth - 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I was a little worried about the tires that came with it, but they held up surprisingly well a year later. Leather seating and comfort allows us to take lengthy trips exceeding 6 -9 hours without aches/pains.Initial flapping noise at 60 mph was found to be front windshield plastic trim. We got it replaced. Oh yeah, there is this little thing called GM driveline lash, where there is slop in the differential, between the ring and pinion gears, so you hear a clunk when starting forward after a stop. GM says its normal...Ill keep checking.

  • Okay truck but forced to have OnStar - 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
    By -

Told the dealership I did not want OnStar. OnStar activated anyway. Tried to call and cancel. Only the dealership can do so in the first year. My truck and I cant cancel the service. Worst customer service i have experienced in a while from GM. Dealership has been fine. Okay truck beyond OnStar, but this service which hijacked my radio the other day drives several low ratings ratings. Think the gas mileage was better with the 5.3 in my 2007 Classic than the 5.3 in the 08. Will not buy another GM until OnStar in not mandatory. Sad that they cant figure out to center the OnStar antenna on the roof. 4th new GM truck in the last seeral years and the last until OnStar is optional
