This Year's Model Updates:

After a complete redesign last year, few changes make news for 2000. Most substantial is the addition of an optional fourth access door to extended cab models. The already potent Vortec 4800 and 5300 V8 engines make more power, and programmable door locks can be instructed to unlock automatically when the Silverado is shut off. A Sportside cargo box is available on 1500 LT models, and 1500 4WD trucks can be equipped with wheel flares this year. LS and LT trucks get a standard electrochromic self-dimming rearview mirror with compass and exterior temperature display, and a soft tonneau cover is available from the factory.

Pros:
  • Fourth-door access standard on extended cab models, strong 4800 and 5300 V8 engines, programmable power door locks, disc brakes at all four corners.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior materials, sketchy build quality.

  • No need for a Ford!! - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

At 86000 miles, the only thing Ive had to do is change the oil, put a new set of tires on it, and put gas in it. Still runs like I bought it yesterday. Can you believe Im still running on the original brakes??

I purchased my truck used as I needed alternate transportation for days when my Harley-Davidson may be a less than intelligent choice. I live in S. Florida and we get plenty of rain, and as they say, when it rains it pours. I have owned my truck for over a year and tire replacement and routine maintenance is all that has been required. I did choose to upgrade the stereo system as I love my tunes. Like my bike, as far as customizing goes all it takes is a vision that fits you and your wallet. I have found that I put more miles on the truck than the bike and I love to ride, but it is a very comfortable in all situations. I could have bought a cheaper truck but I feel you get what you pay for!

Iv been blessed to have had the experience of driving a multitude of vehicle with my civilian and military careers. This truck is the best all around vehicle that Ive driven. The performance of the 5.3L engine is exceptional. Highly recomend, a great buy!!!

I have owned my Silverado for two years now and have 28,000 miles on it. I continue to be amazed by this truck. It is the most powerful vehicle I have ever owned (285 hp), the passing gear will give you whiplash, and at 70 mph this thing isnt even turning 2000 rpm. The ride and handling are oustanding. Fuel economy still averaging 20 mpg. Whats not to like?

  • Excellent Truck - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I love my 2000 silverado 5.3 ext cab 4 door z71 sb this thing has been the most reliable vehicle i have ever had my truck currently has 368000 miles on it with the original engine and trans this truck is truly bullet proof the only things i have ever done to this truck is a 1 water pump brakes and fluids and some rust repair i have towed with it and even driven it hard and it still runs like new.

  • Great truck - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Traded in a 1999 F-150 for my 2000 Chevrolet. Chevrolet has better gas milage, power and comfort. Have 19,000.00 miles, and to this point I have not had it to the dealer for any problems.

  • Silverado troubles - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Love the style and comfort of the truck but have had several problems. Some minor, some not. All problems out of warranty. One of the dual horns went out, still not fixed. Parking brake would not engage,$65 repair. Air conditioning "Freon" tube rubbed on interior part casuing leak,$350 repair. Air conditioning vents not blowing out properly. Some vents barely blowing. Not repaired and afair to see how much to repair. Always down talked Fords but now have second thought about any america built vehicle.

  • Milwaukee Silverado - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

The truck has been great. No major problems, great engine, very comfortable to ride in. A few squeeks and rattles after 72k, but nothing too bad. I bought an extended warranty and have yet to use it since the factory 3/36 ran out!

  • a little shimmy shimmy - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
    By -

Overall I have been happy with my Silverado, but I do have one complaint. I have only put 24,000 miles on this truck, and the steering wheel shimmys back and forth slightly like a vehicle with 100,000 miles might. Also, the suicide doors dont close correctly when below freezing.

  • Awesome vehicle - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I currently own 2000 z-71. I love the truck, needless to say. It handles excellent offroad, and the 5.3l v8 has plenty of power and torc to get you out of some sticky situations while offroad. I would recommend this vehicle, and although I have not had any problems, I would recommend purchasing the extended warranty. The warranty is not expensive, and if you dont get it you cannot get it when your warranty runs out. good luck.
