Overview & Reviews
An available PRO TEC composite truck box and optional traction control are the biggest changes for the Silverado this year. New colors have been added and the OnStar vehicle assistance system debuts as a midyear option.
- Roomy extended cab models, strong V8 engines, available composite bed, disc brakes at all four corners, optional traction control. Cons:
- Cheap interior materials, sketchy build quality.

not bad over all - 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Johnny - June 22 - 12:03 amBought used with 29,000 miles on it and it now has 53,000. During that time I have had to replace the fuel pump and a rear brake caliper. The v6 has been reliable and has decent power for everyday driving, but the fuel mileage is no better than the v8. 4x4 system works fine and has done well in mud and snow. Tire wear, steering, and ride comfort have all been very good. I am satisfied for the most part but if I were going to buy again I would get the v8. I got the v6 because it had a cheaper sticker price, but Im not saving anything on gas. It uses just as much as v-8 chevys that I had previously.

2001 LS 4.8 V8 SB - 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By sandj4jc - May 20 - 10:16 amPros: Nice paint (I love the Metallic Blue), Engine!! (4.8L has the power)...Im sure 5.?L would burn up tires. Decently designed interior. Stereo is adequate. Cons: Poor build quality with noises in dash and electrical problem right off of the lot! Reliability ratings are poor at best from my readings but my experience has been okay so far. I would recommend the truck for the love of driving a powerful Chevy truck that looks nice...dont buy it for a long-term owner... SF

Best Truck I ever owned - 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By tahoegirl - October 31 - 10:00 amThis is the best truck I ever owned. No major problems except for air conditioning belt, and replaced brakes at 7,000 miles now have 52,000 miles and no problems. Captian chairs excellent heated seats are great in winter time. Only problem with interior, is the back seat does not give enough leg room for my growing kids.I pull a 5,000lb horse trailer in the MT, and I cant tell its there. I look forward to up grading to the 2500HD crew cab on day.. If you want a good family truck get the silverado...

Chevy Trucks, the Best - 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By BJK - March 6 - 8:10 pmI used to be a used car salesman, and the V-8 Chevy trucks were always the hardest to trade for, and most popular to sell. The Chevy truck has been the most reliable vehicle I ever owned. I just looked at the brake pads, and they are only half worn. The only maintenance I have done is tires, and batttery change, and oil changes.

Ho-Hum - 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Murph - July 22 - 2:00 amIve had my 2001 for about 1.5 years. The looks of the truck are great but it could use refinement in the interior (a lot of cheap plastic next to the leather). Ive had it serviced twice for drivetrain noise during start and stops. They ended up replacing the rear leaf springs and the yoke on the rear-end. It is better but I think the problem is coming back. There are also a lot of little annoying noises and squeeks in the interior, especially when it gets cold. The 5.3L is great but it lacks the git up that I would expect from this engine. Perhaps its the 3.73 gear. I would expect that for the price of the truck that Chevy would take care of the little annoyances.

Comfortable Ride - 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By oneliner - September 3 - 2:00 amI have a Z-71 ext cab LT, and I have enjoyed everything about the truck. The ride is superb compared to Ford or Dodge. Gas mileage could be improved. (Interstate only 16mpg)
