This Year's Model Updates:

After a complete redesign last year, few changes make news for 2000. Most substantial is the addition of an optional fourth access door to extended cab models. The already potent Vortec 4800 and 5300 V8 engines make more power, and programmable door locks can be instructed to unlock automatically when the Silverado is shut off. A Sportside cargo box is available on 1500 LT models, and 1500 4WD trucks can be equipped with wheel flares this year. LS and LT trucks get a standard electrochromic self-dimming rearview mirror with compass and exterior temperature display, and a soft tonneau cover is available from the factory.

Pros:
  • Fourth-door access standard on extended cab models, strong 4800 and 5300 V8 engines, programmable power door locks, disc brakes at all four corners.
Cons:
  • Cheap interior materials, sketchy build quality.

  • Minor Flaws - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Other than the typical problems (squeaks, creaks and rattles) that most people get from Chevy, have few problems. Yoke was bad (free fix), the tailgate handle broke (free fix), and 4WD push button was recalled (free fix). Recently had recall on tailgate supports. Mileage not what I hoped, but is 5.3L 4WD V8 with over sized tires - 16 isnt bad. AC awesome, even in Arizona! Never a problem with overheating, pulls trailer with 4 motorcycles w/o even noticing. Plenty of room for 4 adults, comfort acceptable on long trips. Upgraded exhaust and intake for performance, great improvement. Rear doors are too hard to get into though.

  • Great truck, reliable friend - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I purchased this truck new, and have put 100,000 miles on it. Never stranded or stuck, no mechanical problems at all. Simple routine maintenance. Great hauler/tower. Survived head on mule deer accident, backed into tree, hit a rottweiler, and was in a garage destroyed by tornado. Nothing but a few scratches. Cons: Funny wear on front tires (inside wear), a/c sometimes weakens on long hot roadtrips, long wheel base decreases offroad ability due to long turning radius and high center potential, spartan cab comfort features on the base model.

  • Great Horsepower lousy gas mileage - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I have owned my Silverado for about 3 years, it is an extended cab. I absolutley love everything about it except the gas mileage. It is horrible. As a person who works in the construction field I have to drive it all over California. But all in all it is a really great truck. Reliable

Bought used and love the truck, only maintenance issue was fuel injector pressure regulator $90 @ 49k. Truck hauls boat like a dream ( 4000 lbs) and gets 15-16 while towing on open road. In town mileage 14-15 and 16-17 on highway. Great looks and peppy even with small V-8.

  • Great Truck - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I purchased this truck after extensive research. It proved to be excellent in the snow, far better than my old truck (1992 GMC Sierra 2500 Ext. Cab 4x4), especially with the push-button auto 4 wheel drive, which always kicked in properly. Nurse the gas pedal and youll get decent (for a truck) gas milage with the 5.3L V8-- between 14 and 18 mpg on average. This is phenomenal compared with my old truck (9 to 10 mpg on a 7.4L 454 V8).

good truck but needs less plastic parts. Everything makes noise in the interior.

I upgraded from an S-10 to a Silverado two and a half years ago, and Ive been very satisfied. Ample power, smooth ride, plenty of room, and so far, no major problems. I am amazed by the engines performance. Ive caught myself several times going down the highway doing 80mph without realizing it. Thank God for cruise control! The truck offers great visibility with its hieght and great mirrors. With a load of mulch, this thing rides like a Cadillac!

Wish I had this 5.3L in my 95. Too many typical problems: steering knock at low speed turning, steering wheel shake at highway speed, touchy ABS, poor ride on bumps (CD will skip on interstate). My 95 with the 350 and five speed was superior in every way except acceleration. Bought used; GMC dealer refused to acknowledge the problems. (Also had 88 and 92.)
