Overview & Reviews
After a complete redesign last year, few changes make news for 2000. Most substantial is the addition of an optional fourth access door to extended cab models. The already potent Vortec 4800 and 5300 V8 engines make more power, and programmable door locks can be instructed to unlock automatically when the Silverado is shut off. A Sportside cargo box is available on 1500 LT models, and 1500 4WD trucks can be equipped with wheel flares this year. LS and LT trucks get a standard electrochromic self-dimming rearview mirror with compass and exterior temperature display, and a soft tonneau cover is available from the factory.
- Fourth-door access standard on extended cab models, strong 4800 and 5300 V8 engines, programmable power door locks, disc brakes at all four corners.
- Cheap interior materials, sketchy build quality.

I love my Chevy - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Nick K. - December 3 - 8:06 pmi bought my Chevy in May 05 with 125,600 miles on it. It now has 140,000 on it. Let me just start by saying that this is an awesome truck, and I get compliments on it all the time. It might not sound like it after you read this, but it is very reliable. One thing I would say needs to be taken care of is the fuel sending unit. It was done at 110,000 and then I had to do it again at 135,000... not cool. The part alone is $400. One day #1 on my A/C fan stopped working, next day, #2 stopped. so its Off, or 3, which is too much, such a pain. Power steering pump went the same day as fuel pump #2, at 135K.

Ive had 3 fords and this is my 3rd Chev - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By billut - November 20 - 10:00 amI have a rare Z71 with 5sp manual, 4.8 and manual transfer case. Very tight well built truck. Never been to the dealer yet after 2.5 years. Get 20+ MPG at 75mph. Plenty of power at 4800ft alt. Very roomy cab and the only bad thing Ill say is the firestone tires are not very good. Id buy again! The last 2 fords were in the shop atleast 30 days the first year.

Happy With My 100k Truck - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By swinn - August 22 - 2:00 amNo major problems at 101,xxx miles. Doesnt burn oil, but did develope the cold start tick at 24,000 mile. Switched to synthetic blend. Also I have a whistling sound coming from the tank area, but told if it turns out to be the fuel pump it would be replaced for free. this problem came while still under factory warranty, but its still driving 75k miles later. Still using factory brakes, but will replace soon.

Much Satisfied - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Bryan Phillips - July 23 - 10:00 amGreat Truck. Driven many others at I would take this one every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Plenty of Muscle as well. If you put about a grand into the 5.3 engine you will be smoking Ford Lightings in no time.

Great Truck - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By eamonn fountain - July 22 - 9:10 amThis is our first extended cab long bed truck and wow, drives like a Cadillac, so powerfull and smooth, we just love it. And the 8ft bed is so useful and the best MPG ive ever had in a V8 truck. 5.3 V8 has more than enough power (but im still gonna add some tuning goodies, lol) Interior is more like a luxury car leather, power heated seats, lumbar support, excellent driving postion. I ve been driving Chevys for years and this is the best ever. Get the LT its got every bell or whistle youll ever need and a few you dont, but its nice to have them anyway.

Bad to the Bone - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By bradmeeks - June 16 - 10:00 amI have enjoyed this truck and plan on keeping it as a second vehicle when I decide to buy another. It rides a little rough, but has good off road performance and is tough.

Reasons to buy from a local dealership.. - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By kevjalittell - May 24 - 10:00 am108k miles and only required maint. 2 recalls handled by dealership with a loaner... Then Boys and girls at Ginn rock! 1 deer assasinated by wife late last year and repairs were less then expected. Truck is still sharp, solid and rattle free. Interior comfort good for all day and all nighters. Rear windows whistle if air is on MAX but not enough to annoy or get fixed. I love my truck

Wouldnt Drive Anything Else - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Jay Vara - April 9 - 10:00 amTruck is awesome, Power and Looks blow the competition away! No problems after 23,000 miles. At 3k miles replaced the stock Firestones with BFG KOs, handles exceptionally well, superior in snow, looks great and still 18mpg on highway. Doesnt use a drop of oil, change it every 5k using Mobil 1 Synthetic and K&N high flow filter. Only the best for this motor.

Love my 2000 Chevy - 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Jimj - December 27 - 7:40 pmI have had very little problems with my truck. I use this truck for work and haul my bobcat around. I have hauled my boat over 1200 miles with one trip with this truck. No problems. The engine finally went out at 295,000 but I replaced with a Chevrolet engine that had 93,000 miles and I know it will run 200,000 more for me. I will own nothing else than a Chevrolet. They mean it when they say " built to last ".
