This Year's Model Updates:

Coming off a redesign last year, the 2008 Chevrolet Silverado is unchanged other than the addition of satellite radio as standard equipment and an optional integrated trailer brake controller.

Pros:
  • Refined and very quiet ride, pleasing fit and finish inside, seats are comfortable for long drives, comprehensive list of safety equipment.
Cons:
  • Larger turning circle than most rivals, mediocre interior storage and cupholders.

I added a K&N air filter system and dual exhust soon after purchase. I started using Kendal oil additive after 40 thousand. 270 thousand miles on it and the motor still has the power as it did from day one. The transmission however is a different story. On my second heading for a third very soon. Other than a few minor problems, stereo speakers, door handle opening issues, it’s about par for the miles and age. Except for the transmissions. The a/c still works!

  • Not impressed with American trucks - 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I drive this because its a company truck. Let me first say I am biased because I hate automatic transmissions- they stink for mountain driving, and I live and work in the mountains. The auto gearing is terrible for steep descents on this truck and other automatics. The truck has got 6000 miles on it and the gas gauge just broke and the check engine light came on. It is constantly beeping with alerts and warnings. It does not go smoothly in and out of 4wd and 4 lo is super hard to get into. I am comparing this to my 1989 (almost 20 years older) Toyota which shifts in and out of 4wd and 4lo way smoother- (and the gas gauge still works.) Otherwise this is a very comfy and smooth truck.

  • After 1 year and 25000 miles - 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

After my first year in the new Silverado I can say I am very pleased. As this is a business truck and I spend a lot of time in it. the ride is fantastic. The 4x4 cant be beat. Great interior although it is lacking in cup holders and storage space. Only one problem so far and that is the stereo. Once the Serious radio was turned off I noticed the radio volume fluctuates horribly as the radio struggles to pick up the digital radio transmission. This is not due to the auto volume adjust option. Just poor radio design. It is so bad that if I dont have a CD to listen to, the radio is turned off. Wished it had a non-satellite radio. Back to dealership 3x on this issue.

  • Wow, this is a Chevy? - 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

This is my 3rd Chevy truck and I cant believe the upgrades. My last was an 04 Crew Z71 4x4. A nice truck, but it is no comparison to this truck. Fit and finish is superb, ergonomics are awesome. Ride is phenomenal. Enough adjectives. Early on, its a really nice upgrade to the previous generation "workmanlike" truck. Ill have to wait and see on reliability, my 04 had it share of issues in the early going, but Im loyal to Chevy.

  • Bye Bye Diesel - 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

I had an F-350 when the fuel went over 4.68 a gal I had to get rid of it. Ive always known Chevy was a good ride. This truck is great so far, I do find I drop power once in a while going around corners like a fuel hiccup. Its only second or two but it feels strange. The fuel mileage was great while I was watching it but it drove my girlfriend nuts so I stopped (took it off instant miles per gallon) since then my avg fuel mileage went from 16.5 to 15.8 so watching what youre doing while driving helps slow stops and gradual speed take offs does a lot. I also am a bit frustrated with the seats I cant keep the lint off.

  • 2008 silverado 1500 - 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Overall a great truck, there are a few problems though. Glad I got the extended warranty. Just under 60k and it stopped running with reduced engine power code. Five months later just over 60k stopped running again same code. Both times dealer could not find a problem, reset computer and gave it back. Have a thumping in trans or rear end, cant find that either. The passengers side door lock no longer works by the power switch. Great gas mileage, 22 mpg hwy. Great power when running.

bought this truck as a demo with 6000 miles rides nice 4/4 works good put 10000 per year on truck, seats are falling apart, lint everywhere, back door handles falling off, paint peeling, I picked this truck over a toyota, because of good deals from GM i had also bought a 2004 silverado that had numerous power steering problems, should have gone with my gut and got the toyota, next truck will be a ford or toyota, ive given GM enough business

  • Great truck, bad MPG - 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

2008 LT1 LT 1500 Z71 XCAB long bed. This is a replacement for the same truck but a 2002. I love this truck, plenty of power, very comfortable, nice options. I call it the contractors Cadillac, the ride is awesome for a long bed extended cab truck. So far just a few small gliches at 2800 miles. Fit and finish is very nice.

Just want to say that this vehicle has been a good ride so far. Have a 2008, 97000 miles and BAM!!! get this flashing signal that says service stabil-track control and traction control, and my engine light flashes....Well, take it to the dealer, they call back saying it is a broken valve spring #3...if that doesnt resolve the engine light they say theyll have to change the manifold....Im sorta lost....can anyone help out????

  • Great Truck - 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Well my wife likes driving my Chevy Truck more than her 07 Saturn Vue. The comfort level is remarkable, were as you know that you are diving a truck, after 2 or 3 hundred miles you dont feel beat up from the drive. Its a Truck that drives like a car. I test drove Ford trucks #1 because they cost less and felt like I had been driving a truck after just a short time.
