Overview & Reviews
An available PRO TEC composite truck box and optional traction control are the biggest changes for the Silverado this year. New colors have been added and the OnStar vehicle assistance system debuts as a midyear option.
- Roomy extended cab models, strong V8 engines, available composite bed, disc brakes at all four corners, optional traction control. Cons:
- Cheap interior materials, sketchy build quality.

Favorite truck - 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Todd Lynch - November 9 - 10:00 amI purchased an 01 LT Ext. Cab SB Z71 new in May of 01, just prior to the intro of OnStar as std. on the LT trim. Its style, size, and feel are "just right" to me when compared to the 01 Ram and 01 Ford. There are a few squeaks over bumps when its cold (50F or below), but nothing out of the ordinary. Plenty of power from the 5.3L, but you need to bury your foot to find it. Blame the over- conservative tranny programming GM provides and get something like the Hypertech PowerProgrammer to "fix" it. Great in snow, but the ABS is a little too sensitive. Either add weight to the bed (300lbs or so) or see if a dealer will adjust it.

Awesome truck! - 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By 2001ChevyZ71 - August 25 - 9:33 pmFirst off, it is a 2001 silverado 1500 LT extended cab 4 door Z71 with Onstar. We bought this truck used at 176K miles and have since put it 10,000 miles on it. It is real comfortable and fun to drive and it has plenty of power. I put some 33 inch maxxis bigohrn tires on it and it went to 10-12 mpg which really sucks down the gas. However, the 4wd system is great for offroading. Only had some minor stuff to replace like the universal and the brakes. The truck can be easily modded to make it look and perform better, which is a plus. I plan on keeping this truck for as long as possible, and i am confident that it will keep performing

Still a Champ - 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By DuckHunter - September 10 - 12:26 amI bought this truck from a family member. It was better than new then, and is pretty close now. Im amazed at the power and handling that this truck has when compared to its size. I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a good used truck.

Poor Waranty Work - 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By AL B - March 20 - 2:00 amReplaced input steering shaft twice. Having problems again with only 7500 miles. Loud wind noise from rear of cab, in back of both doors. Had to replace rack and pinion steering. Transmission and altanater both have louder than nomal high pitched wine.

I would buy again. - 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By william - January 28 - 12:26 pmThe truck has been very good. I only have replaced the battery and rear brakes. So far the motor 5.3 has plenty of power. I have added a cold air box, mass air flow sensor and a cat back exhaust. This has given it and me a real kick. Towing is of little effort. But I too have been getting those cold start knocks (lifters).the only real complaint is the brakes. Plain and simple, they stink. Please go back to rear drums. The Firestone tires were horrible. Very poor in wet conditions.

Review - 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Johnny - October 18 - 12:36 pmExtremely durable and powerful engine. For the time I have had the vehicle I have enjoyed driving it, comfortable and spacious even for the long road trip. Gas mileage isnt great I get around 15 in town and 18 to 20 on the highway.

Issues with the 2001 Ive had - 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By Chevy driver - September 24 - 10:00 pmIve always driven chevy trucks, they always been tanks< I make work and play hard. The 2001 has given me more issues than older models. The first was the fuel pump in the tank, very expensive to fix thru the dealer, 2nd bad knock on cold start up,Power window motor, replaced whole brake system(hard time finding the correct fuel line, didnt match dealer PN,fuel injectors, front end work and just put in a new transmission, Ive had a bad vibration which thru process of elimination I think is the driveshaft, by the time Im done I will have a new truck, but I work it hard but not trashing it, for what they cost I expect it to do the work like the older models,I am disappointed in chevy

Work, Haul, Hunt, Camp, Play! - 2001 Chevrolet Silverado 1500
By CabinFever - August 31 - 10:00 amI drive 30 miles in hilly country to work, then haul dirt, rock, firewood or ATV on the weekends and this truck is always ready to go. Ive hauled 2,000 lbs. of topsoil, well-beyond the trucks capacity, up the mountains to home and the engine hardly worked. I just clocked 30k miles and theres no rattles, no squeaks. My mom-in-law was very surprised at the ride quality both on road on on our mile of dirt road to our house when she was visiting. This truck has done it all for me and its only asked for good, regular oil changes and its always gotten 17.5 mpg no matter what I do. Im very very happy with this truck.
