  • Great Gas Mileage/Reliable Car - 1999 Chevrolet Prizm
    By -

I have owned two Chevy Prizms. One was a 1998 automatic and the one I own now is the 1999 5 speed LSI. I liked both cars, but I found that the automatic only averaged about 30 MPG while the stickshift averaged about 32.5 miles per gallon. Both cars were very reliable for me. I would suggest either version for a budget tight driver. The Prizm was also built on the same line as the Toyota Corolla and they are basically the same car.

  • Excellent Commuter Car - 1998 Chevrolet Prizm

Bought this car new now have 105K miles. Had to reset air bag sensor 2x. Front brakes lasted until 100K miles & rear brakes not yet worked. This has been great no-frills reliable transportation. 5 Speed provides great gas mileage - consistent 38+ mph in the summer 32mph in the cold winter. 5 speed also allows for adequate acceleration when needed. Under load (> 2 people) need to delay shifting if youre merging onto a hwy. With rear passengers rear end tends to bottom out easily. Front room comfortable for someone up to 510 beyond that it gets cramped. Rear room gets tight for anyone over 4. Body still holding up well after 7 lovely winters.

  • Great reliable car - 2000 Chevrolet Prizm

IT gets good mileage and is very dependable. Ive not had to do anything but regular maintenance in the past 4 years. My only complaint is that they put the cup holders in front of the cd, which makes getting cds in/out is a hassle and sometimes when you try to grab your drink you stop the cd or change the channel on the radio and stuff like that.

So far so good. Reliability is the key.

  • 2nd Prism - 1999 Chevrolet Prizm
    By -

This is my 2nd Prism. My first lasted 10 years with no major problems. This Prism is now 4 years old and makes noises the last one didnt. I have also had it into my mechanic oftener for wobbles at higher speeds, a problem which has never been completely solved. Car just dosent seem as well made as my first one. Thanks for this site to air opinions.

  • Perky, peppy, but small vehicle. - 2001 Chevrolet Prizm

This is a good little car especially around town. Great gas mileage combined (30+). People are squeezed into the back seat. The head and leg room for driver is adequite even with moonroof. Trunk is good for groceries but not much else.

  • Good looking and GREAT gas mileage - 2001 Chevrolet Prizm

Its a great lil car with good features, but make sure you have handbook or else you cant fix clock. Gas mileage right now is 36m/gal, the dealership said it might get 29m/gal. With gas prices right now this is its best feature.

  • reliable little car - 2001 Chevrolet Prizm

Car was real good around town until I went on 1300 mile trip. It is too small for trips and wind was trying to toss it into the ditch. It had little pickup on mountain roads. Good for around town. Needs armrest and better cupholder position. I have had alignment issues too.

  • Solid car - 1998 Chevrolet Prizm

Because gasoline use is the single biggest environmental impact for most Americans, I was looking for a fuel- efficient vehicle. Leased it new, then bought it at end of lease. With 5 speed manual it accelerates adequately. I put on optional fatter tires when factory tires wore out, which improved handling. Only real problem has been Evap canister purge valve going bad at 50000 miles, but this is an emissions problem. Doesnt affect mileage or driveability at all.

  • To keep or trade, a confusing decision - 2002 Chevrolet Prizm
    By -

The Prizm is an outstanding vehicle . When I was told that they no longer manufactured them I was very upset. My last 3 vehicles were Prizms. My Smart Buy is up this Sept. and do not know what to do since I cannot get another one. I have no idea why they stopped making them........
