This Year's Model Updates:

Based on the 2004 Chevy Malibu, the Malibu Maxx is an all-new vehicle. A cross between a sedan and a wagon, it's designed to give midsize car buyers a little more space so that they don't have to resort to an SUV.

Pros:
  • Hatchback configuration makes for easy loading, spacious interior with adjustable rear seats, plenty of safety and convenience features, innovative remote start feature, standard V6.
Cons:
  • Lackluster interior, less cargo space than true wagons or SUVs.

  • Our Maxx - 2004 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx
    By -

We have had our Maxx for about 3 weeks now, and really enjoy it. Although its somewhat of a step down from our last car (1998 Buick Century), it is fun to drive. We couldnt believe the amount of cargo we could carry. The only problem weve had is that the latch on the smaller of the 2 back seats broke when the seat was in the down position, but it was an easy fix.

  • How to fix headrest - 2004 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx

Just wanted to let people know that I was not going to purchase this car because of the front headrest being so far forward until I realized that the back headrests dont reach as far forward. I just switched the front and the rear headrests and the problem was solved. Hope this idea helps others out. Too few miles to review the rest of the car.

  • Malibu Maxx LT - LOVE TO DRIVE! - 2004 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx

I recently turned in my Jeep Liberty after test driving the Malibu Maxx. I fell in love with it as soon as I got behind the wheel. I must admit though, I was nervous about getting a car after years of riding high in an SUV. BUT, in the Maxx I dont feel like Im riding too low. I have a long commute to work and the XM radio saves me from the boring talk radio! The heated seats in Michigan are a must!

Have now driven 2500 maxx-miles. Car came in perfect condition and no faults or flaws have shown up. Continued to discover features. GM has trumped the competition, including honda and toyota. The quality of design and materials is unsurpassed, and the price is a tremendous bargain for what you get. Edmunds has totally missed figuring out that the maxx really is an EXTENDED SEDAN like Chevy is advertising and not a "large wagon" like they have classified it. What is unique about maxx is that it provides so much comfort for four or five people. In that regard it is like a compact limo.

  • Great Product, GM is doing it right! - 2004 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx

My Maxx is a great car. Smooth ride, comfortable, and quick with great mileage, Much better than the imports I drove. Why would any one consider a forigen car? This car is really a winner. I drive 75 miles each day to and from work, and I enjoy the drive.

GM PAID ATTENTION TO ALL THE DETAILS HERE. QUITE IMPRESSED WITH THE STANDARD FEATURES ON THE LT MODEL. DID HAVE TO TAKE IT BACK FOR "CHECK GAS CAP" ERROR. ORDERED NEW CAP.

I bought the LS with 1SB package. Im 62" have more leg room than in my Venture van. This car is quiet and comfortable. I love the way it handles and performs. I drive narrow winding single lane country roads where the need to pass is important. The Maxx has no problem going from 55 to 80 within the short passing zones. Its made driving back and forth to work fun again. For under $20,000, I believe this car has an excellent price/performance ratio.

  • So pleasantly surprised! - 2004 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx

Bought an 04 Camry a year ago - it was stolen (a story for another time!) and needed a new car. Avoided Toyota (most frequently stolen) and bought the Maxx instead - drives better than the Camry did, and for about the same money got leather interior, amazing flexibility of rear seat/cargo configuration. I was fortunate to find a brand-new 04 (identical to the 05) and got better than employee discount price. The Malibu Maxx isnt flashy - but like Camry, Accord, etc. it may soon be seen by consumers as a "best in class" family vehicle. Drive is smooth, easy. Love the remote start feature. Very comfortable for a family of five.

  • Maxx is fun and zippy - 2004 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx

Im having a ball driving this head- turner. I traded my 2003 Trailblazer because of its bad gas mileage in-town and highway (never better than 16-18 mpg). The 2004 Malibu Maxx LT has met all my expectations--it really does get 32 mpg on the highway and it really hauls! I am having run zipping around town and sieze any opportunity for a road trip. Love the roomy interior with space for me and four friends and the cargo room is exceptional for a midsize car. Get one and get fun!
