Overview & Reviews
Like, um, seedless watermelon, the Chevrolet Malibu Maxx was the end result of selective, consumer-friendly design. Seedless watermelon was created because consumers love watermelon but hate spitting out seeds. Launched in model-year 2004, the midsize Malibu Maxx was created because many consumers like the utility of wagons but want the cooler look and style offered by sedans.
Most Recent Chevrolet Malibu Maxx
Hoping to avoid any potential stigma, Chevrolet describes the Malibu Maxx as a "five-door extended sedan." Built on a lengthened version of GM's Epsilon platform, the Maxx has a hatch-type rear door and a glass roof over the rear seat. And unlike the sedan that offers both four- and six-cylinder engines, the Maxx comes with V6 power only.
Its hatchback design makes loading the Chevy Malibu Maxx effortless. The rear cargo area has 22.8 cubic feet of space available (about 8 more than the average midsize sedan's trunk) and folding down the rear seats opens up 41 cubic feet. Further versatility is gained by rear seats that slide forward and back -- either side of the 60/40 setup will slide independently with a 7-inch range of adjustment. Other strengths include an agreeable ride and outstanding crash test scores.
All in all, the Chevrolet Malibu Maxx is a great choice if you're seeking utility at an affordable price -- provided you don't take issue with its drab looks and unremarkable handling. Those seeking brisker performance can choose the SS trim (launched in 2006), which comes with a more powerful engine.
Alas, the Malibu Maxx has not been a particularly popular offering for Chevy, and it was announced that the car would be discontinued after the 2007 model year. More information about the Malibu can be found here.

By Ani - March 14 - 3:10 amIve driven my Malibu Maxx for a little over a year now and its been a pleasure. I bought this model because I have elderly parents that I drive around. The car is very roomy and just the right distance from the ground to allow ease in entering and exiting the vehicle.

Cross Country With Maxx - 2006 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx
By hmguston - March 13 - 2:06 pmMy wife and I started from NJ with a drive through Pa., Va., and now into Tennessee, with Arknsas, Oklahoma, Texas, NM and Tucson ahead. Maxx as been fuel efficient, carrying needed luggage for the trip plus a 4 day stay at the Opry Land Hotel and room to spare. Our ride has been comfortable, handling a dream and peppy enough to feel comfortable easing into lanes on Rtes 81 and 40, truckers and all. Visibility is good, braking effective. Surprising seating room inside for what is essentially a small vehicle on the outside. All in all, a serendipity among the brands and models. We are enjoying Maxx on the road!

I love it! - 2005 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx
By Larry and Melanie - March 11 - 12:50 amThis the car that you get more bang for your buck from! Its comfy, roomy, and you feel safe when you drive it. My daughter got run into a concrete telephone pole, and if she would have been in any other car, she wouldnt have lived to tell about it. This is a solid car all the way around. I have all the toys on mine, and for the price I paid, you cant help but just love this car! Thank you Chevrolet!

Happy Birthday, Baby - 2005 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx
By medinamalibu - March 5 - 9:35 amMy Maxx just turned six years old with 61k on the dial. I feel like Im spoiling it with new tires so soon after replacing the battery, front brake rotors, and front ball joints. The DIC threw a "Power Steering" message the day the battery lost its cranking power, but not since. At five years, the drivers seat developed an amazing squeak, so I learned how to remove the seat and grease the mounts. I deemed one rear skylight shade a loss after a $130+ estimate for replacement, which I indirectly referenced in my three-year update. The Maxx is comfortable and maneuverable, and hasnt given me much of any trouble outside of wear items. Some of them are annoying, and some are rather expensive.

Great car - 2007 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx
By JP53202 - February 16 - 1:26 amFirst off, the auto press nit-picking about the steering, gruff engine and interior simply are not true. The electric steering is just fine, it adjusts to vehicle speed and there is all the feedback of a hydraulic unit. I notice no difference and I have driven a lot of cars in my life. As for the engine, its just as quiet and smooth as the V6 in my moms Lexus RX300. The interior, well, on the LT its cloth, not leather, but its just as swank as my work mates Accord LX - its workaday, no doubt, but for a mid-line interior its got what the others do. This car also handles and brakes very well, too. Dont let the press fool you - this car is every bit the equal of its Japanese competition.

This is the Best Car Ever - 2006 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx
By Diette Harris - January 29 - 12:56 amThis car is very roomy and has lots of different things to try out. Everyone should experience a Malibu Maxx. There is a lot of leg room for tall people and the comfort is just like if you were at home relaxing in your favorite chair.

Underrated Excellent Competitor - 2006 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx
By Linda - January 16 - 9:30 amMaxx is a mini-Saab. Good foreign feel, interior a bit basic. If Chevy invested in upgraded interior materials this car can compete with imports hands down. Good mileage, great pickup excellent style. I researched BMW, Saab, Volkswagon Wagons Maxx best value for the dollar. Just wish the interior could compete with imports.
