Overview & Reviews
Like, um, seedless watermelon, the Chevrolet Malibu Maxx was the end result of selective, consumer-friendly design. Seedless watermelon was created because consumers love watermelon but hate spitting out seeds. Launched in model-year 2004, the midsize Malibu Maxx was created because many consumers like the utility of wagons but want the cooler look and style offered by sedans.
Most Recent Chevrolet Malibu Maxx
Hoping to avoid any potential stigma, Chevrolet describes the Malibu Maxx as a "five-door extended sedan." Built on a lengthened version of GM's Epsilon platform, the Maxx has a hatch-type rear door and a glass roof over the rear seat. And unlike the sedan that offers both four- and six-cylinder engines, the Maxx comes with V6 power only.
Its hatchback design makes loading the Chevy Malibu Maxx effortless. The rear cargo area has 22.8 cubic feet of space available (about 8 more than the average midsize sedan's trunk) and folding down the rear seats opens up 41 cubic feet. Further versatility is gained by rear seats that slide forward and back -- either side of the 60/40 setup will slide independently with a 7-inch range of adjustment. Other strengths include an agreeable ride and outstanding crash test scores.
All in all, the Chevrolet Malibu Maxx is a great choice if you're seeking utility at an affordable price -- provided you don't take issue with its drab looks and unremarkable handling. Those seeking brisker performance can choose the SS trim (launched in 2006), which comes with a more powerful engine.
Alas, the Malibu Maxx has not been a particularly popular offering for Chevy, and it was announced that the car would be discontinued after the 2007 model year. More information about the Malibu can be found here.

Malibu Maxx - 2004 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx
By jesterswench - April 1 - 10:00 amI bought my car on March 31st. I took it to Florida 2 days later. It was one of the most enjoyable and comfortable rides I ever had. The car handles wonderfully, the ease of use for the cruise control is a nice feature. The information center gives me all the info I need while traveling. It was a pleasure to drive. Everywhere I went, I was stopped by folks inquiring about my new car.

GM Sales Consultant Owned - 2006 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx
By Mitch Biggs - February 17 - 10:13 amI recommend the Maxx LTZ to anyone who loves functional space and long trip comfort. I average 24 mpg city and 30 on the Highway and have exceeded 34 mpg on some trips. A Large Size Pet Porter fits in the cargo area for hauling my 100 lb. labrador. A great amount of features for the money. As a performace oriented person, the LTZ is sufficient but I would love to try the SS on my next lease, as long as they add heated seats and auto dimming mirror options!

Mad Maxx - 2005 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx
By kim - February 12 - 8:43 pmWe bought our Maxx when gas prices were near 5 dollars a gallon. Downsized from a minivan. While we miss the room of the minivan we loved this vehicle. Great gas mileage! With the hatchback we could still fit a great amount of equipment and home repair supplies in the back. Both rear seats fold down. Great car for the kids to learn to drive in. Great handling, fun to drive, good quality and reliability. Safety features are fantastic....totaled it with bilateral front airbag deployment. Walked away with just a bruise and sore muscles. No contact with the airbag due to the adjustable gas and break pedals. Too bad they arent making this model anymore. Looking for another used one to buy.

Now over 30k, starting to have problems - 2005 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx
By Gilanna - February 10 - 7:00 pmPurchased it new, was excellent first 30k miles. Now, cruise control wont engage at times. Brakes are now pulsating. The dealer says its normal for 30k miles. Both front directionals stopped working and had to be replaced. At times, the shifter stays locked when you go to shift. By setting the alarm back on then off, I can get it to release. Took it to the dealer, they couldnt figure it out unless it did it while they were working on it, it didnt. I have to wait till it does it more frequently. This car is starting to annoy me. My wife wants her VW Golf back, says she never had any problems until it had 100k miles. I hope these annoyances can be easily fixed cause my warranty expires in 1500 miles.

Try it! - 2004 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx
By townhome - February 7 - 10:00 amIf you havent driven a Chevy in a few years, you will be very impressed. My Malibu Maxx is highly competative with all other mid-size cars, foreign or domestic. The hatchback is so useful, I dont understand why most Americans are opposed it to. You get all of the utility of an SUV with MUCH better gas milage and much better performance, plus a lower sticker price. In addition, Chevy has packed so much standard equipment in, I keep finding little details that make me say "Hey, thats cool......"

LTZ MAX - 2006 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx
By LTZ Maxx - January 26 - 4:53 pmWe went to the dealer with the intention of buying an Impala. The salesman suggested that we take a look at the Max. We found that with 2 young children that it would probably be a good car for us with the windows above the rear seats and the rear dvd system. The kids love it and so do we. We definitely would suggest at least getting an LTZ model. The bigger wheels and chrome accents really add to the looks. We like it more and more. We commute about sixty plus miles per day a combination of highway and city driving and have averaged 28mpg and on our trip highway was 34ish.

Its All About Value - 2004 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx
By Malibu Maxximum - January 26 - 4:30 amWow. I have been driving 25 years and this car has been a very pleasant surprise. Solid. Peppy. Base V6 Maxx LS really is pretty loaded. My sister in law has 4 cylinder Camry. She spent $2500+ more, but got much less. Now if this car is as reliable as many of the recent GM makes, that would certainly make this car a steal.

Chevy Maxx - 2006 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx
By Canadian Owner - January 23 - 12:56 amFun to drive, fuel efficient car, good acceleration, comfortable to have four adults over 6 feet to travel long distances. Doors can be opened very wide (almost 90 degrees to the body of the car) allowing exceptional access to the car. The design of the car allows for considerable features for price of the car. The styling of this car is for those who want be a little different and have all the comforts storage and handeling. It is nice for us in cooler climates to have the block heater and remote starter.
