This Year's Model Updates:

Based on the 2004 Chevy Malibu, the Malibu Maxx is an all-new vehicle. A cross between a sedan and a wagon, it's designed to give midsize car buyers a little more space so that they don't have to resort to an SUV.

Pros:
  • Hatchback configuration makes for easy loading, spacious interior with adjustable rear seats, plenty of safety and convenience features, innovative remote start feature, standard V6.
Cons:
  • Lackluster interior, less cargo space than true wagons or SUVs.

Ive had my Maxx for over a year. I love the power and on a 3000 mile road trip the mileage was as good as my old Honda Accord. Overall its a great car. I think I wouldve gotten a better deal if Id waited until it was on the market a while longer. Minor problems include the rear sunshades snapping, rear passenger window bumping when you open it, and the front passenger often hits the heat button for the seat on entry (not fun in the summer). Occasional hesitation on start up happened a lot at first (the dealer claimed its Chevy thing) and a recent problem with the wipers.

No problems to report, no quality issues. Finding the V6 has plenty of power. Ride and handling are great for a car in this price range.

We researched and read for almost 3 months, trying to find a CAR that could do what our S-10 did but be able to haul 4 REAL people when not hauling cargo. Hello Maxx! Leather, automatic climate controls, remote start, adjustable pedals. I feel like a million bucks when Im driving this car. I, for one, like the styling of the Maxx, its just perfect. Im still trying to get use to a car whos front hood is visible when driving but I like the beefy look of it and, in my humble opinion, the back end is just plain sexy. Four big doors for easy entry/exit, the sliding rear seats and very appreciated center rear arm rest are fantastic.

We bought the 2004 Maxx with about 34,000 miles and actually have put less than average mileage since. However, the car continues to please with excellent performance, amazing mileage for a 6 cyl engine and good interior ergonomics. The front end design is the primary downside; the new Chevy front end styling (see 2008 Malibu) would really set this car off. Ill be in need of a new car soon (this ones my wifes) so I wish Chevy would wise up and produce the Maxx for the current Malibu lineup.

Got the loaded LT Maxx. I feel the car gives much more value for the money than anything alse in the class both in features and performance. The styling wont turn any heads but the interior is top notch and the flexibility great. The car came with no defects and the dealership was great in getting the Onstar and XM radio set up.

At the test drive I explain to the dealer that there is strange noise, the answer--this is a different car, engine sounds different. At 400 miles has several problems--including severe one: needs major transmission work! Dealership gives me headaches with repair--they would give me a rental car, but only for the first three days, and repairs will take longer. Not to "waste" my three days over the weekend, they let me take back my car but I "should drive the car as little as possible not to cause more damage"! GM customer service explained to me how I can ask coworkers/friends to drive me around or get a taxi!!! This is my fourth GM car in a row and this was my last GM one, end of story!

It took a lot for me to convince my husband to get a car vs. another SUV or truck. But when he got into this car, he loved it and still does. So much better on gas mileage and very fun to drive.
