  • Very reliable automobile. - 1998 Chevrolet Lumina
    By -

I purchased this car in April of 2001 with 28000 miles and it has been as reliable as one would want. I had the AC compressor replaced at 45000 and sans the typical maintenance this car has been a dream. Pickup is very good, handles bad weather (snow/rain) well and fuel economy is a solid 20MPG. My only issue with this is the steering ratio is really short.

  • Been a good car for us - 2001 Chevrolet Lumina

We have experienced no mechanical failures with this car. Weve had to replace tires, brakes and a battery, the expected. Highway mpg is around 30. Amazing for a car of this size. Mileage around town not quite so good, but within limits. Car is confortable and quiet on the road. Poor quality of console drink holder. It broke early in our ownership. We had the windows tinted darker, better for our hot Texas summers. Installed CD/radio unit for our own pleasure. We were in a pressure situation when we purchased this car and didnt notice until later that wed overlooked a few things, like trunk release.

  • Not to bad for an old car - 1997 Chevrolet Lumina
    By -

Bought it with just over 97,000 miles on it. Put on about 10,000 since. But after about two weeks of owning it the engine would heat up very fast but after continuing to drive it for about a minute straight itd go down until at an idle stop. Had a cracked cylinder head, worn hoses and cracked water pump. Then about a week after the A/C had a slow leak for a few days until it was dead. No money to fix and was moving to Phoenix! Still never found out what was wrong with it but dont want to spend the money to fix it. 2 months into owning it, engine runs very rough until driving at freeway speeds or engine is warm. Wont last me long but overall a good car, would be great if no mechanical problems

  • Would buy another - 1991 Chevrolet Lumina
    By -

I bought this for $300 from a junkyard, who sold cars as trade-ins for other cars. Bought it with a broken engine mount, and after a 1200 mile trip the entire suspension is destroyed, but thats because of the normal wear and tear. This is still going strong at 179k miles, and I would rather pay to have this entire car fixed than actually buy another one. Even if I dont, im keeping the body to toss a 305 in, just to take it to the strip, thats how much i love this car!

  • Family Sedan - 1995 Chevrolet Lumina

Well we have had this car since new June 1994 and still running today as new in Jan 2007. That is saying something. It was even totaled in a wreck back in 1996, but it was fixed well and still continues to run like a top. I have since put in a K&N air filter, hi performance igntion wires, 16 inch chrome Gm alloy wheels, synthetic oil by Mobil and has seen over 200 hp, and will go with duel exhaust. ACworks well, heat works. All dash and interior lights work and body is still solid with a couple of dents and some paint chipping, but still kept like factory. I have added foglamps, neons, and wind deflectors. Will add other mods later.

  • My first car - 1995 Chevrolet Lumina
    By -

Im an 18 year old kid that just had their Lumina die on them at 169k mi. Ive been driving this car for almost 2.5 years and I have to say I had a lot of memories learning to drive on it. I liked the smooth ride and good snow traction. Some things that went wrong were old brakes, a faulty alternator and its chronic coolant leakage problem, but consider the age (169k miles). Dont get me wrong, overall I would recommend this car to anyone looking for a cheap used car that is roomy and smooth. Watch out for the white ones though, they will always start flaking major amounts of paint after a while (every white Lumina I have seen does this). I havent seen any other color defect like this.

  • Old girls been good to me - 1993 Chevrolet Lumina
    By -

Bought this car in 98 and its been one of the best things I ever did. I dont know if I just got lucky with it or what, but its been great. Early problem with alternators, 3 in 2 years. Since then, just keeps going and going. 240,000 on it now. Starting to show some wear this past year. Struts, water pump, rotors had to be replaced. Starting to have other problems show up too, leaking oil, transmission fluid and water. My fault though, I think, I have not really taken very good care of the car. Never changed trans fluid, plugs, oil about every 7500 and never changed coolant, still, it just keeps going! My gas mileage is great for a car this size too,28 mpg. Love another this good!

  • Crappy car - 1999 Chevrolet Lumina

We bought this car new and from day one we have had problems with it. Had to replace brake drum a couple of times. They were so bad that we couldnt even get them cut.The drums kept burning up brake pads. Had to replace head gasket that cost me a pretty penny. Radiator leaks. Now there are problems with the transmission, sometimes it seems to be stuck in 1st gear. I dont know. I would never buy a Lumina again.

  • Up to par with any import! - 1992 Chevrolet Lumina
    By -

Bought the car with intentions of fixing the rust and moding the car with Z34 model parts. Did some of this. The car is very reliable and quick, I recently took a newer model Trans Am off the line at a red light. Unfortunatly Im now buying a newer car because Ill be out of college and looking to move. The engine is still great. The Buffalo winters just took its toll and there is body and frame rust, and the rack is leaking power steering fluid. If I didnt need a car to move south Id be keeping this. Unfortunatly now my stereo system in the car is worth more than the car is. She handles great in the winter! I treated her well and she only got the best. Full synthetic oil and 93 octane gas

  • Reliable engine, leaky - 1997 Chevrolet Lumina
    By -

I bought this car from my mother who bought it new. It has almost exactly 193,000 miles on it and I just got the death sentence for it. It has been leaking coolant, which is common with the Luminas, for probably the last 60,000 miles. The coolent has finally leaked into the engine parts causing random misfiring. It has tranny problems. This car had terrible brakes. I constantly was replacing brakes and rotors. It had suspension problems. In addition, it had annoying electrical problems. The drivers window stopped working, headlight electrical problems, cruise broke, no left turn. This was all electrical, not fixed by replacing bulbs. It was never fun to drive. Bad turning radius
