  • overall, a good car - 1997 Chevrolet Lumina

This has been a good car for me, with just one problem: I have put TWO new alternators in this car! (A fault of Chevys, I believe, as a previously owned Chevy--different model--had the same problem.) Other than that, keeping up with the maintenance has been the only expenses. I believe it is a good safe car and it is comfortable to drive

  • Had Problems from the start - 1991 Chevrolet Lumina

I love my car however it has been nothing but problems since I bought it. I had to put new calipers on it, my seat belt doesnt work and the hood release broke as well plus it didnt have heat. My door handles broke off and it cost me 50.00 a piece for them. I had to put a new belt on it plus I have a few hole in my transmission line and my pan gasket keeps leaking.

  • Love my car but.... - 1997 Chevrolet Lumina

This was my company car for 2 years before I bought it so it a few miles on it at purchase time. The ride is GREAT and it has been the absolute family choise on all family vacations because of the interior comfortableness and trunk room. However, word of caution, re:fuel components. The fuel pump has gone out at a cost of $900 and I have had to service the fuel injecters several times. The last being a replacement(another high cost). Shop said this is not unusual for this car ( especially in Oregon because of the high condesation that gets in the gas) and parts are expensive (probably because they are no longer being made).

  • Repairs Ouch - 1992 Chevrolet Lumina

Love my Z. Unbelievable to repair. Poor engine compartment design. Everything is so difficult to get at. To replace altenator you have to drop front axle. Timing chain was a $1000 touch. In order to replace battery you have to remove bolted support and washer reservior before accessing battery, Not enough room for battery blanket. Goes like the wind but has a rattly and tinny sound to the muffler as opposed to throaty rumble which would match its look. Despite all, I love it and would not trade it.

  • Good Car - 12 years later - 1991 Chevrolet Lumina

I bought this car a month ago to replace my Pontiac Bonneville which was falling apart. I still cannot believe what a great deal I got. I paid $2K for it (+ tax) and its in great mechanical shape. The engine is clean and it runs beautifully. The only problems with it are some minor hail damage and a problem with a joint in the front passenger steering assembly ($150 to fix). I have already driven the car over 1500 miles. It runs great in town and is very comfortable on the highway. The 3.1L engine runs smooth and the gears get as much performance as they can out of its 140hp. I highly recommend this model if you can find one in good condition.
