Great Car from point A to point B - 1997 Chevrolet Lumina
By Der5kss - April 4 - 3:00 amIf youre looking for a quality car to get you there and back, look no further. The standard Lumina with a 3.1 L engine and decent fuel economy (28 mpg highway) is a reliable, conservative car. It is not sporty and it is not an exciting car to drive, but my 1997 Lumina has never failed me. It gets from one place to another with no problems, the power is decent (but a more powerful 3.4L and 3.8L engine can be found on other cars of this model), and it is comfortable enough for a family of 4 or 5. If you buy a Chevrolet Lumina as a family or business car you will be satisfied with the low-maitenance relationship and you will not regret this investment.

Smart Buy - 1996 Chevrolet Lumina
By KBCE - April 1 - 2:00 amPurchased @ $134,000.... Im 30 miles from 150K. I put in New alternator, got rid of air box, got an alignment, (4 wheel), add ed tach & vacume gauges. Plan on dumping SunRoof, wheels & keyless. This car is worth that investment in all manner of speaking. Im 1/2 a Century old & have piloted a few machines. This unit gets 35 MPH with me alone in it with gear, @ NOT over 70 mph! 50 to 55 on flat is closer 2 40MPH. Only a fool would pass-up a car this Safe & Cost effictive. I paid $2500. My next unit will B another one of these but not newer then 2001. (Read all U can on these & Ull C where the lines of quality start & stop).

Strong reliable workhorse - 1997 Chevrolet Lumina
By bralwel - April 1 - 2:00 amI have 190,000 miles on my 97 Lumina. It has served me well and very reliable during that whole time. I have only replaced a water pump and one alternator. I finally have to rebuild teh motor at 190,000 miles which I am now doing. I expect another 150,000 miles from this sturdy car

Nice car for the money - 1997 Chevrolet Lumina
By Manifesto11 - March 31 - 2:00 amThis is a very nice car overall. Very spacious and comfortable. At 110,000 miles, the engine feels strong and sounds healthy, but has some delay when you push on the gas (it goes away if you use premium fuel). I had to replace the head gasket at 75,000 miles and have gone through several problems with the cooling system. Electrical system still works well. Glove box, both sun visors, and center counsole all dont work right because of cheap plastic parts. With this being said, the reliability is much better than any other american car that Ive owned. Not quite as fancy as an Accord or Camry, but this cars at a fraction of the price.

Overall Good Car - 1999 Chevrolet Lumina
By MrEddie - March 27 - 2:00 amThe Lumina has served its purpose for me. AT 177K miles, Im about to sell it. Its been a reliable car with very few problems. For a 6-cylinder, the gas mileage is not bad. Ive gotten my moneys worth here, and am only on the second set of tires with tread left. (Mostly highway miles though). Manifold leak seems to be a common problem however.

Very inexpensive to own! - 1997 Chevrolet Lumina
By gwalker - March 16 - 2:00 amI cant began to say how reliable this car is. I just got my car back from the mechanic for a regular maintanence check-up and everything checks great. I purchased the car with 26,000 miles in 98 and, today, Im at 155,000 and still counting. The only thing replaced was the alternator and, of course, brakes. Ive been in 3 accidents. Rear ended twice w/ nothing but "stress marks" in the bumper paint. Hit on the side, knocked the rim lose off the axle. No damage to my car, the rim was tighten back on. Very durable! I cant say the same about the other cars that had to be towed! This car takes a licking and keeps on ticking.

3.1 and Intake Fun - 1995 Chevrolet Lumina
By poolboy - March 8 - 2:00 am70,000 miles and the Intake Manifold fails. I work in the automotive aftermarket. Now that I have had this issue, I cant hear enough about what a piece of junk this 3.1 is. Mechanics said they see this problem all the time with the 3.1. Most leaks leak out. Mine leaked in. A gallon of antifreeze in a crank case is never a good thing. Loved the car, hate the engine. You would have thought GM would have said something about the chronic problem. A new manifold isnt that much to replace....a new engine is.
