  • 15 years and still new - 1995 Chevrolet Lumina

I inherited my 1995 Lumina in 2001 with 4k to 5k on the odometer. The Good. No interior rattles, all power accessories work well, and now with 72,000 miles the engine still runs like new. Smooth ride and tranny. Feels safe. The Bad. It is not the most reliable of vehicles. At just 10000 miles or so i had a leaking intake gasket manifold that cost $800 to fix. minor things such as the power door locks breaking, the AC not working, brakes warping, needing a new ball joint, and fuel injectors needed cleaning. The seats are not very ergonomic and feels like i am sitting in an old catchers mitt. Overall...the engine has adequate performance for freeway merging and makes for a tolerable commute.

In 7 years i had to change everything in the engine, including failure of the cylinder heads at 85,000 miles and at 156,000 miles. That second time (last Thursday), I scraped the car.

I am 22 yrs old, bought this car in 2005 with 125,000k on it. The only problems I had was that the rear struts needed to be replaced, and it has quite a bad oil leak. Other than that, I only paid $1,200 for it and its a great car. Keep it washed and waxed for it will definitely rust. It now has 170,000k and still going strong. Will keep it until it dies.

  • Awesome car - 1995 Chevrolet Lumina

We bought it with 12000 on it. Just got rid of it yesterday with 172k. Most reliable car I have had. No major motor or transmission issues. We kept up with the maintenance. All things end. This year we were fixing things monthly. On the way to shop for brake switch the master cylinder failed and the brakes mostly locked up. Only recurring problem with the Lumina was brakes and rotors. Replaced them all several times and still they warped and the rear in particular would sqeak and had to be cleaned frequently. Mechanic said the Luminas were known for this problem. I will miss my Lumina.

I purchased this car five years ago and have been happy with it. Being an older car, I have had to get some repairs done on it. However, none of the repairs have been major. I bought it with a little over 100000 miles and its running strong at almost 160K.

  • As expected - 1995 Chevrolet Lumina

Granny has tranny issues and sold the car to me at 80,000 miles. Had that fixed and put 50,000 more miles before it was using so much oil I couldnt get 3000 miles without adding oil. I ended up neglecting it once and now it needs an engine. During that time I changed the water pump, compressor, and some sensors.

Well we have had this car since new June 1994 and still running today as new in Jan 2007. That is saying something. It was even totaled in a wreck back in 1996, but it was fixed well and still continues to run like a top. I have since put in a K&N air filter, hi performance igntion wires, 16 inch chrome Gm alloy wheels, synthetic oil by Mobil and has seen over 200 hp, and will go with duel exhaust. ACworks well, heat works. All dash and interior lights work and body is still solid with a couple of dents and some paint chipping, but still kept like factory. I have added foglamps, neons, and wind deflectors. Will add other mods later.

  • Another Intake Gasket! - 1995 Chevrolet Lumina

Great car in every way but the engine. I purchased this car off eBay with 85,000 on it. It drove nicely and needed very little upkeep until the intake gasket blew. It went while driving 65 on a long highway miles from anywhere. Lucky I had AAA and my cell phone. $300 worth or parts and 2 weekends later the car is driving again.

Car was essentially problem free till it had 120,000 miles on it then it required replacement of accessories. Engine and transmission was problem free other than valve cover gaskets started to leak at 70k. Limited passing power but gas mileage good. Plenty of headroom but could use more legroom. Nice large trunk. Good visability. Seats have almost no padding.

  • 1995 Lumina - a solid performer - 1995 Chevrolet Lumina

I acquired this car from the original buyer 4 years ago at 82,000 miles. It is an exceptionally roomy and comfortable car for the price, and has run well. Brakes only last about 40,000 mi. This year at 130,000 miles, it needed a major tuneup, spark plug replacement, and intake manifold gasket replacement. About half my miles are cross country, and it has been totally reliable.
