This Year's Model Updates:

GM resurrected the Impala nameplate last year (a staple in Chevy's lineup from 1959 to the early '80s and then briefly from 1994 to '96) and put it on an all-new, full-sized sedan body that rides on the Lumina front-drive platform. Although the Lumina itself is still with us for the 2001 -model-year, Impala will eventually replace it as Chevy's large-car entry to battle the likes of Ford's Crown Victoria, Buick's LeSabre and Chrysler's LH cars.

Pros:
  • Six-passenger seating availability, big brakes, torquey V6 engines.
Cons:
  • So-so styling, no V8, wallowy suspension, big front-drive cars rarely sell as well as big rear-drivers.

  • Great Car for the money. - 2001 Chevrolet Impala

We have a 2001 Impala LS with the 3.8 V6. Its a great engine. Very peppy for the hills in Tennessee we drive on. The sound system is very high quality other than a speaker rattle in the front passenger door. The only downfall to this car is the turn signals. They only work when they want to and the dealership is no help. They want to charge upwards of $500 to fix something that should be recalled by GM since I know of at least 10 other Impala and Monte Carlo owners with the same problem. The radio also goes out when you turn on the rear defroster. But other than that weve had no problems with our Green Ghost. Its the only high quality vehicle GM has left.

I purchased the car in July of 2001 and since then I absolutely love the car. It turns heads everywhere. I find the car very reliable having had very few problems so far. I drive alot and the car is comfortable gets good gas mileage. Its a pleasure to take on the long road trips. Had it to southern Florida and back from Pittsburgh, Pa and it was great.

This has been the best car I have ever owned. I purchased it after totaling a Buick LeSabre because of the sturdy structure of the car. Gas mileage has been excellent. The only problem Ive had was a transmission that was covered by the warranty. Ive received compliments on the car over and over again even being 5 years old. If I could replace it I would like to have the same car again.

  • Really like this car - 2001 Chevrolet Impala

I really like this auto. I have had foreign, chevys, pontiac and GMCs. Wouldnt give a plug nickel for the foreign - soooooo expensive to maintain for the money. The pontiac was comfortable for the mid size and dependable. This Impala is a looker, great gas mileage, comfortable leather interior and lots of bells and whistles for the money. I bought it used and saved tons of money for a nice car.

  • Excellent family car - 2001 Chevrolet Impala

I bought a 2001 impala from a private party at 75,000 mile for $6100. It feels like new. Has a quiet engine, stable and comfortable highway driving. Its much better than Camry or Accord ifor this price.

Everything so far is great. Only complaint is the constant mailings from GM wanting me to take the car in for replacemnt of an air bag sensor (WHICH WAS DONE AND REPORTED TO GM NUMEROUS TIMES)

  • Best Buy For Your Money - 2001 Chevrolet Impala

I have had a very good experience with this vehicle in the year that I have owned it. The Impala is large enough to accommodate a family, but not too big. Acceleration is good, fuel economy is excellent and overall I would buy this car again. Brake/rotor wear is the only major issue I have had. This car is often compared to Honda/Toyota, yet unfairly dismissed for GMs past quality issues. I have owned both Honda and Toyota and when cost is a factor in your decision you will find the Impala a much better buy for your dollar. GM has made leaps and bounds in closing the QC gap it has faced against its Japanese counterparts. You will be impressed with the caliber of this vehicle.

  • twice satisfied - 2001 Chevrolet Impala

This is our second Impala LS. The first (00) has more than 80k and has had no problems, brakes lasted until 75k. We still have it and now have 3k on 01 LS used with similar great performance. Car is underrated.

  • Chevy Really Did It - 2001 Chevrolet Impala

This is an excellent car...Im very picky, and I only have two major areas for improvement for this vehicle. I plan to keep this car for a while, we are really enjoying it, and the gas mileage has drastically improved since it was new (split 1/2 hwy & 1/2 city, about 275 mpg, all hwy almost 400 mpg).
