This Year's Model Updates:

The HHR is an all-new compact wagon based on the Cobalt platform. Its retro styling is a throwback to the '49 Suburban.

Pros:
  • Smooth and quiet ride, lots of cargo space, attractive interior, excellent visibility, versatile sound system.
Cons:
  • Weak brakes, sloppy handling, engines lack low-end pull and refinement, tight shoulder room, out-of-reach window buttons, some cheap plastics.

  • HHR? I want one of those! - 2006 Chevrolet HHR

This car really gets attention- mostly from men. Five times I have been approached and asked questions. People stare at it. It is a beautiful bright blue and looks like a small truck but it is really a very cool station wagon in disguise! Peppy 4 cyl engine gets decent mileage around 26 mpg. It is very comfortable. Roof racks have to be factory installed but running boards can be added by the dealer if desired. It has a neat glove box in the middle of the dashboard that the driver can easily reach. It is full of neat little surprises like maplights that dont shine in the drivers eyes. 5 adults can ride comfortably in the car.

  • Smooth ride with some electrical quirks - 2006 Chevrolet HHR

I enjoy driving this vehicle a great deal. One of the main reasons I purchased it was for the seating features, as I have back problems and the adjustable seat/lumbar support/heat was very attractive to me. The placement of the power window controls are odd (right side "floor" near gear shift)and its hard to clean the window under the back wiper. The main problem Ive had is frequent internal electrical shorts - the horn has gone out twice and I have had problems with the power seat a time or two. Its all covered under the warranty though. Im hoping it gets sorted out before the warranty expires. I love the car though - lots of room, features, and a thoroughly fun drive.

Although I like the overall looks and performance of my HHR, I am totally disappointed with the various electrical issues I had to put up with during the cold weather months this past winter. Issues with HVAC lights blinking on and off, battery going dead three different times for no reason, rear wiper motor have to be replaced for intermittent operation, windows that freeze and will not open after car has been warmed up for 45 minutes and last but not the very leaset, snow and ice build up at the front door which rubs the paint when opening the door. With all this said, I plan on replacing this car after driving for just 10,000 miles and I was a loyal GM owner for over 30 years.

  • Great Overall HHR - 2006 Chevrolet HHR

So far I have really enjoyed my HHR. I have had to get used to not having the power that I had in my previous vehicle but overall it is fun to drive. For a couple of hundred dollars you can change the suspension and gives a much overall better performance with lowering the springs. It has been overall great. We will see how it is for longterm dependability.

I just love my HHR and feel good that I got a lot of bang for my buck! I spent a month deciding between HHR and Vibe (similar crossover vehicles) and option for option I got the HHR with remote start (which Vibe doesnt offer)for $2K less than the Vibe!

  • Wind / Road Noise - 2006 Chevrolet HHR

My car gets 20 mpg in town driving and 30 mpg highway. I have had it 6 months. It accelerates quickly enough to get on freeways safely. The heated seats need to be re-designed so more of the seating surface gets warm. The only complaint I have is about wind & road noise, especially at highway speeds, the noise sounds like a window is not completely shut, especially on passenger side, between the front & rear door. This appears to be the result of a design flaw. There is only one rubber seal around the front doors, & if there were two, like on the rear doors, I think the problem would not exist.

It took a month of looking to find the car. In late 2005 they were hard to get. Great styling, its boxy shape and fenders remind one of the old gangster cars. Very roomy inside considering the external dimensions of the vehicle. It fits in narrow parking spaces and has a lot of cargo room with the rear seat folded down.

  • Chevy Comes So Close - 2006 Chevrolet HHR

Never owned a Chevy before buying the HHR but the looks of this caught my eye when the first "spy shots" were posted on the web. Really a great car for the money. I bought a 2LT with pretty much every available option and the car has not disappointed me at all. The acceleration is better than I anticipated and my wife loves the heated leather seats. Now well see how it fills the bill for tailgating this Saturday. If Chevy had just put more thought into the placement of the cupholders, spent a few dollars more on the power window switches by placing them on the door where they belong Id have no real complaints.

  • General description of vehicle . - 2006 Chevrolet HHR

This HHR is a 2nd vehicle for us. I purchased it as an inexspensive form of transportation. I purchased a manual 5 speed shift for that reason. Disapointing to note that this vehicle caused me much grief that was due to shoddy workmanship. I received a severe laceration because the seat of the vehicle was inferior.
