This Year's Model Updates:

The HHR is an all-new compact wagon based on the Cobalt platform. Its retro styling is a throwback to the '49 Suburban.

Pros:
  • Smooth and quiet ride, lots of cargo space, attractive interior, excellent visibility, versatile sound system.
Cons:
  • Weak brakes, sloppy handling, engines lack low-end pull and refinement, tight shoulder room, out-of-reach window buttons, some cheap plastics.

This was the first one in northern MI sold. Had some new model quirks and bugs to work out, dealership took care of all of them except for one, which needs GMs help. All 4 doors are rusting at the seam on the inside door bottom. GM seems to be giving me the runaround. I want either new doors (as an attempt to repaint didnt work) or a new car. Other than that it gets OK gas mileage 23 around town, 28 on the freeway (thought it would do better.) Put a real console in the car and move the window switches. Love the heated leather seats and XM radio. Quality would be better if it wasnt built in Mexico.

I knew it was slow, but I have gotten used to simply pushing it a little. I love the exterior styling, but wish GM had used better quality sheet metal (dings with ease) and interior parts. Cup holder placement is useless, and it needs better storage. That said, I love the retro look, the ease of ingress and egress, the hauling capacity witht the seats down and the $50 a month drop in insurance over my 2001 4Runner. This car needs 25 more horses for this enthusiast. I intend to install a cold air induction to make it sound and move a little better. Too many PT Cruisers out there. 5 more miles per gallon would be good too.

After experiences with terrible rattles, squeeks and vibrations in various GM Mini-vans over the past 13 years, I was more than ready to try an import. I was looking recently and spotted an HHR at a local lot. I immediately fell in love with the styling and the price and decided to give GM ONE more chance. Im glad I did! What a high quality vehicle! Absolutely norattles, squeeks or vibrations and very little wind noise.

Very satisfied with driving and ownership of vehicle. Pleasant to drive with great storage capacity for a small SUV. Would not hesitate to buy another HHR.

I cannot really say anything bad about this vehicle. It could use some more power on future models, but that would be about it. You know, more get up and go when you have to floor it in Houston area traffic.

  • Sporty outside, not so comfy inside - 2006 Chevrolet HHR

I really like my HHR. Good for driving around town with the kids, but dont expect to make a major Home Depot run in it. Storage space is pretty limited. Also, these are, without question, just about the most uncomfortable seats Ive ever had in a car (and Ive driven Corvairs and VW Bugs!) Overall though, a good car for tricking out, driving around town, handing down to your kids, etc.

  • HHR is fun and economical - 2006 Chevrolet HHR

This is the first new car I have ever had and Im glad I bought one. It has plenty of space inside. It has a fun retro classic look. It gets all the mileage it claims to get, and even more if you drive slower than 65 on level ground. The automatic transmission is responsive and the little 4 banger is plenty of power for this car. If the engine were bigger it obviously wouldnt get that all important 30 MPG! For an inexpensive vehicle, I cant say enough positive things about it. I highly recommend the HHR if you like the utility of wagons, coupled with a car based body style. I hope Chevrolet will offer a 2 door panel delivery version of this car in the future.

  • Pros and Cons - 2006 Chevrolet HHR

Ive had my HHR for over a year now, and while its fun to drive, ive had no shortage of problems, namely ongoing electrical problems with the signal lights, windshield seal leak, leak in windshield causing failure of heating system, paint chipping along bottom and rear, deprogramming of key/ignition, signal light failure, occasional popping noise when the radio is off, sticky first and second gear. That being said, its a very unique and fun car. Ive put 18" wheels on, making it sporty and quick handling. Stiff suspension, much like a sports coupe, especially with larger wheels on. Gas mileage is great, about 25 mpg in city/rush hour/stop and go traffic.

  • Nice Ride X - 2006 Chevrolet HHR

I bought this car because I needed a bigger car than the Mirage I had prior. The HHR is soo much fun to drive and soo quiet that unless youre using cruise control you could get into trouble. The whole retro look puts the PT Cruiser to shame and is much roomier. The MPG are still low but I hope they will eventually rise to the occasion after the break in period. Overall great car for either the single party animal or a family. If youre looking for a quiet ride and lots of room then the HHR is the way to go.

  • Love my 6 HHR - 2006 Chevrolet HHR

Over all Ilove My HHR. But with any new car there are some bugs to be worked out. And yes I bought the extended warranty so all of the bugs can be worked out by my dealer. I feel its a small price to pay. I was one of the first to own the Chevy HHR and since then Ive seen a lot more every day.
