This Year's Model Updates:

The HHR is an all-new compact wagon based on the Cobalt platform. Its retro styling is a throwback to the '49 Suburban.

Pros:
  • Smooth and quiet ride, lots of cargo space, attractive interior, excellent visibility, versatile sound system.
Cons:
  • Weak brakes, sloppy handling, engines lack low-end pull and refinement, tight shoulder room, out-of-reach window buttons, some cheap plastics.

  • Nice Little Fun Car - 2006 Chevrolet HHR

General Motors is getting a bad rap about their cars. The engines in the Cobalt and HHR are tried and true Ecotech motors. I have owned this car since it was new. I have put on tires and a brake job. I love this car, not one problem at all. This will match up well against most small imported cars very well. I am thinking of trading in next year for the SS model. Great little car and really fun to drive.

This is the first FWD 4 cylinder car I have ever purchased. Not disappointed at all. My wife drives 80% of the time on HWY. I drive other 20% of time hard. Love the way it handles on turns (FWD). Theres no such thing as too much HP. But not disappointed either by 173 HP. So far 50,000 miles and have been to dealer very few times.

I like the HHR for the size of the car which is just a smaller SUV, and the height of the seat is great since you dont have to stoop down to get in the car or pull yourself up and out of the car. I am getting great gas mileage even though I havent put 300 miles on the car yet. I am having a problem with the lock feature....when it locks up I havent learned how to unlock that feature without getting the owners manual out and reading it again. Yet what the book says I am not grasping so I just play with the push buttons on the lock and eventually I get the car to turn on.

  • Chevy got it right! - 2006 Chevrolet HHR

I have had at least a hundred people comment on seeing my car. Wow! We love how it looks! What is it! Its the best car Ive ever had! Im 80 years young and Ive had a lot of cars! My wife has a bad back and we were looking for great seating. Well we found it! Just open the door turn around and place your posterior in the seat! All you seniors listen this is a great car! Many amenities. Someone at Chevy finally got it right!

  • Room, Comfort, and Economy - 2006 Chevrolet HHR
    By -

Before buying, I drove a Nissian Versa and a KIA Rondo. I found the HHR to be more comfortable, handle and ride better, be more responsive, and very close on fuel economy. I am very satisfied with my purchase and have gotten 34+ mpg on the highway with A/C operating. I also feel the little wagon handles like a big car.

  • Fun Has Returned - 2006 Chevrolet HHR

I needed a daily commuter vehicle to replace my aged truck. I also needed better gas mileage. I am very comfortable in my HHR and the gas mileage is excellent! The takeoff is lacking but the car can keep up with traffic on the 4-lane. I owned a Fiero and found it a joy to drive. The joy HAS returned!!

  • Excellent car for low payment - 2006 Chevrolet HHR
    By -

I bought this car knowing I could not afford the bigger price tag of the big SUVs plus I love the old school look GM is bringing back. It is very roomy inside even if it doesnt look like it would be. The chrome package makes everything stand out and I highly recommend getting it. I did upgrade to a 2.4 on the engine so I cant say if the smaller engine is good but the 2.4 is excellent. There are times it gets sluggish but only when I am trying to hotrod myself into a spot on a busy road. This car rides smooth. The only issue I have had with it is that occasionally the key gets stuck in the ignition and I have to shift the gear back and forth to get it to release. Cup holder is in bad spot also.

  • Replaced PT - 2006 Chevrolet HHR
    By -

Just picked up our new HHR LT2 to replace the PT. The PT was nice but this car has more room, is quieter, handles better on highway and turns on a dime. Wanted white but due to color ordering on first units ordered light grey. Cars looks very rich!Way to go GM! Now we need a new truck!

  • Rating my HHR - 2006 Chevrolet HHR
    By -

The 2006 was my first HHR My husband bought the 2007 and I traded mine in & bought a 2008. We love these cars they are comfortable fuel effecient and reliable. One thing we would like to see [as we live in the Poconos of PA] is all wheel drive, even though they are good in the snow.
