This Year's Model Updates:

Antilock brakes are standard on all models for 2006. Heated cloth seats are now available on the LT, the LS features body-color fascias and the LT gets body-color rearview mirrors.

Pros:
  • Long wheelbase affords plenty of interior room, fore/aft-adjustable rear seats, high crash test scores, available side curtain airbags.
Cons:
  • Limited choice in drivetrains, confusing stereo control layout, slow steering response.

This is a love-hate relationship. We bought the car because it was (1) quiet, (2) roomy and (3) cheap and it still is all of those thongs, with the emphasis being on "cheap". Mechanically this thing has been a disaster since the day it was bought. Its been in the shop 11 times (not counting regular service), has had both front wheel bearings replaced at separate times, front brakes redone three times, emissions system fixed, tires replaced because tread blocks were falling off, engine is hard to start and other various engine trouble lights and wheel vibration problems. I will never (repeat NEVER) buy another GM vehicle and have filed a Lemon Law suit against them.

I love my car! I hadnt intended to purchase another GM product, but really was impressed by this vehicle. It has an amazing amount of backseat space, even my 61" friend had head and leg room to spare! It handles better than my last car, very responsive and easy to drive. Its soooo quiet! It has a lot of storage room in the back. The 6 CD changer XM satellite stereo with 7 Pioneer speakers is awesome! I look forward to driving every day! I havent been this excited about a car since my first new car!

I bought a new, 2006 Equinox sight unseen via the internet. As I work overseas, my wife is the primary driver. Almost from day one, she commented as to the road noise, turning radius and poor gas mileage. I am now retiring and will most likely keep the car for another year. My retirement gift to my wife - another car...

I bought my used/certified 2006 eq on 2/13/09 since then I have had it back to the dealership 4 times for a starter problem and 2 times for the radio. They finally fixed my radio and after the 4th time they finally fixed my Starter problem (they replaced the whole computer system) Gas Mileage is ok but turning radius is horrible! Cup Holders and Parking Break should not be that close together

  • Great looks, good ride, poor qualities - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

I love the way the vehicle looks, the decent power of the engine is sufficient and the transmission performs flawlessly. I dont like that I cant check the transmission fluid level. It has poor design quality of the interior(seating stiff). The leg room is exceptional and recommended for taller people, front and back seats. It is lacking in fuel economy, I avg.18mpg, and under performs around corners and steering quality is under performing overall. It is a great riding vehicle but I get a lot of road noise from the windows. The poor design of the rubber fittings on the windows allow for a lot of slipage around the windows when you roll them up, if you roll the window down you can pullitoff

  • Love It! - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

This is the best vehicle I have ever owned. I have only had my Nox for about 4 months and I was recently rear- ended. I was so scared to get out and see the damage. I was shocked to find a few scratches - the rubber part of the bumper holds up GREAT. Wonderful in the snow and I have the basic model. Great room & sound. Im getting ready to trade up to the LT Model. I get lots of compliments on this vehicle.

  • Fun to drive! - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

The 3.4 litre engine is peppy and responsive, gets up to speed quickly and handles well in traffic, builds RPMs fast, good bottom and mid range. Very roomy, especially in the backseat and storage areas. Center console is not layed out all that well, radio controls are confusing, overall has a fairly cheap and plain look to interior. Seats are very firm, but supportive, the huge windshield gives good visibility. Exterior is very attractive looking and is on par with other more expensive small SUVs, the sunroof is a nice option for the modest price.

This is my first SUV to own, and I will never drive anything else! The Equinox has great room, and feels like you are driving a car. Not to meantion the motor is very quiet.

  • But for poor mileage, nice vehicle - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Seat belt latches placed too inconveniently close to center storage/armrest. Hard to latch up and thus discourages use thereof. Mileage not too good with air conditioning running and AWD. Average about 15 in city driving. Could be better. Visability improved. Storage in rear improved. Comfortable ride and like a passenger vehicle and not a truck. Easy entry and exit. Seating ergonomics good. But, power seat does not have seat back adjustment in power mode. Lack of foresight by engineers. Minor problem but for some short person may be a problem.

  • Great all around vehicle - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

The was a great vehicle very roomy and comfortable. Had a few factory problems but they were fixed at the dealership.
