Model Overview:

Part of a growing segment of plus-sized small crossover SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox splits the difference between compact and midsize utility vehicles and offers roomy accommodations in a five-passenger layout. Like other vehicles in its class, the Equinox emphasizes style, amenities and day-to-day practicality over more traditional SUV attributes. In short, the Chevy Equinox is a fine choice for commuting to work or transporting pets, but it's not suited for towing, or anything more rugged than a gravel road.

Although the Equinox has always had a roomy interior and an easy-driving nature, the plain styling and low-quality interior materials in earlier models are none too impressive by today's standards. Later versions of this Chevrolet crossover have made big strides in quality and are available with more desirable features and engine choices.

For the money I believe I made the best possible choice. For 52,000 miles it has run well performed well and carted a lot of personal belongings. It looks good is roomy and mileage is good for a vehicle this size.

We have owned vans for many years but decided we wanted to size down. I loved the look & price of this car and the ride is good. Some of the interior design is a little "cheap" in quality, but with the good price of the car you have to expect that. The two things I do not like are the sun visors are too short, they could use an extension of some type & the way the hatch opens, it is hard to get it open you have to grab it in just the right place. We do take a number of weekend trips and have found the gas mileage to be getting better. We are getting about 30 miles to the gallon now. Too bad the gas tank could not be a little bigger, but like I said we owned vans before.

  • 2008 Equinox Sport - 2008 Chevrolet Equinox

Owned the Sport version for 5 months now and love it! Very comfortable seating both front and rear, plenty of room all around. Sport version has a stiffer ride than other versions, but not too harsh, handling is top-notch. Terrific forward visability and very stable and quiet at highway speeds. If there is a better crossover SUV in this price range, I havent seen it. Only low note, is that I wish fuel mileage was 2-3 mpg better - but who doesnt?

After test driving suvs from Honda Pilot, Fords Edge, GMC Acadia, Saturn Vue, we decided on the Chevy Equinox. Two main reasons 1. Ease of getting in and out of the vehicle. 2. This was the only vehicle that didnt have an obstructed view by wide front door window trims. The viewing area is much more open than any of the others. We also found the dash was not raised or slanted upward, but smoothly angles downward. Both my wife and I have bad backs and its entry is with ease on my 62" 280lb frame. My wife just lost both breasts to cancer and pulling down on the rear hatch is not a problem as it was with the other SUVs. All in all, a well rounded design and earthy downhome elegance.

  • Fabulous Car - 2010 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Bought the first 2010 off the lot and I love it. The Equinox got a good write up in our local paper and I decided to check it out. Just what I wanted, and Ive been looking for 2 years at edmunds. Love all the extras, and the price was great. Plenty of acceleration for a 4 cyl. Classy interior with plenty of room. With the Sirius radio, On Star and other features I felt like I had bought a Lexus.

  • Pluses outweigh minuses - 2008 Chevrolet Equinox

Vehicle looks great. Sonama Red Metalic with silver pinstripes. Performance is outstanding and the vehicle gets a lot of looks and positive comments. Heated leather seats are a big plus. Love the Pioneer sound system and the sunroof. Did not really plan on getting the sport as looked at the lower end models, but glad purchased this model instead. Only problem so far was in-dash cd player. It would just quit playing discs at certain times. Once ignition switch was turned off for a few minutes the cd player would work again. Sometimes for a few hours, sometimes for just a few songs. Tried different discs and same problem. Dealership replaced the radio/cd player now works fine.

  • GREAT.. cant wait to get mine! - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Ive been in the market for a midsize SUV for quite awhile. Looked at the Escape, SanteFe, CRV, and on and on and on. Once I test drove the Equinox, I was done. The best value, options and style for the price range over EVERYTHING else out there. Ive been waiting 6 weeks for mine to come in and pick it up tomorrow. Cant wait!!! Cant recommend a better SUV out there. The features are top notch and it is classy looking inside and out. Best of all .. rides more like a car than a truck.

  • Great Family Vehicle - 2007 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Have owned the Equinox for 6 months now and all in all is a great value. We purchased an 07 1LT with the 17" chrome wheels, which make it look great. I like the sporty look, ride and handling, but, im not that impressed with the gas mileage, I get the same mileage with a 2000 grand cherokee as this. I also hate the recessed windshield, it is a pain in the rear to brush snow off, my hood is scratched and chipped after one winter.

  • LTZ is a Great Package - 2008 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I bought the LTZ New Years Eve, and I am very pleased with this vehicle. I drive a lot of highway miles and average about 23 mpg, driving 65 mph. It drives smoothly, handles well, though turning radius isnt the tightest. With the back seat pulled all the way forward, there is plenty of cargo room, and with it all the way back, plenty of leg room. The Pioneer sound system w/subwoofer gives premium sound. I would suggest adding more storage compartments. The drivers visor extends, but the passengers does not - kind of odd.
