Model Overview:

Part of a growing segment of plus-sized small crossover SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox splits the difference between compact and midsize utility vehicles and offers roomy accommodations in a five-passenger layout. Like other vehicles in its class, the Equinox emphasizes style, amenities and day-to-day practicality over more traditional SUV attributes. In short, the Chevy Equinox is a fine choice for commuting to work or transporting pets, but it's not suited for towing, or anything more rugged than a gravel road.

Although the Equinox has always had a roomy interior and an easy-driving nature, the plain styling and low-quality interior materials in earlier models are none too impressive by today's standards. Later versions of this Chevrolet crossover have made big strides in quality and are available with more desirable features and engine choices.

  • Unhappy console - 2008 Chevrolet Equinox

Overall I like the 2008 Chevy Equinox however I am very unhappy with the center console. The emergency brake is in the wrong spot and the 12VDC outlet is right under the pullout cupholders. Liquid and power do not mix well. I am really unhappy after reading earlier articles about the 2006 Chevy Equinox with the same complaints. Will American car companies ever get their act together?

  • 2008 Much Improved - 2008 Chevrolet Equinox

This is my second Equinox. I previously leased a 2006 AWD LT. I recently bought the 2008 because of great dealer incentives. This one has much better handling, fewer blind spots, and a excellent, comfortable ride. I like the standard OnStar, which I used to have in my leased Trailblazers (3 of them). The gas mileage is excellent (25-26mpg hwy) even though Im still in the process of breaking it in. I get a lot of compliments on it and it looks very sharp in black. I also got the remote start and it is awesome (cheap add-on, too). I looked a lot of vehicles and am so glad I bought this one.

  • I luv my Equinox - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

This car/suv is exceptional. I had researched for over 6 months and I am glad I found this. It is quiet, quick, loaded, unique looking, affordable, and has lots of great little extras. The Summit White is beautiful and luxurious. The style and design stands out in the crowded SUV category. I love the leather, the multi-function seats, the table in the back, the wide opening doors, the controls on the steering wheel and lots more. The ride is quiet, and smooth for the most part. It has great get-up-and-go and power. This has to be a "best buy" based on price and what you get for that price. I offered $500 over actual invoice and made the deal!

  • Love my Nox - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

Although I have only had the vehicle for 2 weeks, I am entirely in love with it. Previously drove Grand Ams, but now have grandchildren and putting them into car seats, hauling strollers and wagons etc. made for one very aching grammy!! My Equinox is so "user friendly". Really like the large view from the windshield, the abilty to custom the drivers seat with the 6-way seat adjuster. Plenty of room for my husband, myself, grandkids, other adults and gear. So far the ride is great and I hope it continues to be. I cant see us going back to a regular sedan ever again.

  • I love my 08 NOX sport - 2008 Chevrolet Equinox

This is my first GM or NA product in 15 years and I love it. Not perfect but a pretty good SUV.

  • Gas Mileage - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I love my Equinox so far. Except for the gas mileage. Its far from the rated 25 mpg. Although it only has 600 miles on it, I am only getting 17 - 18 mgp after 3 tanks. I drive highway 93% of the time usually between 70 - 75 mph.

  • Cant Complain - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

Ive had my Equinox for 2.5 years and I have 30,000 miles on it. I love it. Gas mileage is great and seems to keep getting better-- I get about 22 mpg combined city/hwy. Once I got over the 20K mile mark, the mileage increased. The comfort level is great and back seats have enormous legroom and ample headroom. Interior and exterior quality is up to par. Its not a BMW, but its not what it should be. Ive considered trading it in on other new SUVs like a Hyundai, Kia, or HHR... but why? I get the same gas mileage and it has more room. I wish the warranty was longer although (knock on wood) Ive had no problems and have kept it regularly maintatined. Excellent truck & value!

  • Last Chevy Id Buy! - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I fell in love with the appearance of the Equinox, and still find it to be a good looking car both inside and out. Unfortunately since I have bought the vehicle it has been one headache after another. I had consistent problems with a broken gas guage that Chevy finally fixed. The icing on the cake though is the never ending problems I have with the cooling system of the vehicle. My Equinox constantly overheats, a problem Chevy knows about, and has repeatedly tried to fix the issue. Now that my warranty is up, and the issue is still taking place, I am fighting with Chevy because I refuse to pay for repairs on an issue that has taken place since the car was 1 1/2 years old (its 3 1/2 now).

  • Unhappy - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Drivers seat hard uncomfortable. Turning radius no good. Cup holders in front in the wrong place along with the cell phone plug. Knocking noices sometimes in the front end & sometimes in the rear end. Had to dealer 3 times for poor AC. They stated that the way it should be. Not good in deep snow. Snow gets packed under the car which makes loud noises. Seats stain very easy & hard to keep clean. The dash is poorly made. I love the exterior looks.

  • Good buy - 2008 Chevrolet Equinox

I guess i got screwed because mine didnt come with free OnStar for a year, or 3 mo. of XM radio. I did buy it used though with 15,000mi. I do like the smooth drive and I think the seat cusions are very comfortable. I do not like the interior. Looks very cheap on the doors and center console. Im not a big fan of the cushion pattern. I came from an 03 Eclipse Spider, convertable with leather. I wish I had a sunroof at least.
