Model Overview:

Part of a growing segment of plus-sized small crossover SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox splits the difference between compact and midsize utility vehicles and offers roomy accommodations in a five-passenger layout. Like other vehicles in its class, the Equinox emphasizes style, amenities and day-to-day practicality over more traditional SUV attributes. In short, the Chevy Equinox is a fine choice for commuting to work or transporting pets, but it's not suited for towing, or anything more rugged than a gravel road.

Although the Equinox has always had a roomy interior and an easy-driving nature, the plain styling and low-quality interior materials in earlier models are none too impressive by today's standards. Later versions of this Chevrolet crossover have made big strides in quality and are available with more desirable features and engine choices.

  • Handy & comfortable - 2008 Chevrolet Equinox

We took our new Equinox on a road trip a week after we got it, a very pleasant ride. Comfortable seats, the long wheelbase makes the ride smoother, easy to get into. Fuel economy is much better than my 06 Trailblazer, and there is more interior room for passengers. The big cooler sits flat on the floor in the back seat, XM radio & OnStar are also great. The electric steering is quiet and efficient. It is just a great ride. Were going again in a couple of weeks, and I cant wait to get on the road. Then, in everyday life, its easy on gas around town, easy to park, simple to maneuver. Plenty of room for stuff in the back, too. This might be my most favorite car ever.

Bought this car for my new job as a sales rep. I travel a lot and have to load the car to capacity with heavy/bulky job supplies. This car has been great for me, handles fine in all weather conditions, looks good, and has just enough pep. I had a Honda Prelude before this and I thought gas mileage and pep would be a concern but its been satisfactory considering that I load a lot of cargo in it. I think its a great buy and would prefer it over the Vue. I disagree with many of the other negative posts on this SUV, maybe they expected more but I expected less. I do find it uncomfortable after long trips, but I drive a lot and any car would be the same, IMO.

  • Better than an Escort - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

I bought my Nox because my back hurt too much from getting in and out of my old 94 Escort. I like it, it is roomy, and easy to get in and out of. I paid only $18,000 for it new, so my low expectations have been greatly exceeded. It does well in the snow (what little I get in Va.). Looks good, relativly quiet for an SUV, I can get all my work equipment in it. I scotch-guarded my seats, so I do not have a stain issue.

  • Hidden Problems - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I have owened this vehicle since 12/03/05 and it has been in for repair 3 different time in this time period. First time for the check engine light, dealership never found the problem and just reset the light. Second time was for the vehicle not starting. Car was towed and found that the battery was faulty. Third time for Back firing. This happens when the car is first started and when you come to a stop. Now,GM has sent out what they call a TSB report saying that there is a problem that sounds like a backfire but this is normal. How can there be a admitted problem that can be heard and it be normal noise that they will not fix? I have been told that they will not fix this problem.

Just got my 2008 Equinox Sport. Im liking it more and more. Fun to drive. The map pocket is a little uncomfortible against my right leg. It handles great on the road.

  • Frist all wheel drive and I love it! - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

My wife and took delievery on it about 26 Jan 2005. We love the drive of it, the 5 speed automatic. The mileage is excellent for a new car (20mpg in city) havent been on the road with it as yet. We like the side airbags, the XM radio, and the folding rear seats. And the V6 is like the one I had in the pickup that I traded in on it. Easy to drive, power steering is very good. The ride is super excellent! It does take a little getting used to how to use some of the controls but other than SUPER!

I went from a Grand Caravan to an Equinox and enjoy the smaller size. The turning radius is longer than the van, which is odd. So far, I am enjoying it. Am getting 20+ in mixed driving and will probably get more on a trip. The cup holders are inconvenient. I think the shift mechanism should trade places with cup holders so the cups are comfortable to reach. Need a dome (reading) light between visors, front is dark at night. A/C cools well, SUV handles nicely. Has 80,000 (fleet vehicle) on it, but is trouble free so far. My son-in-law found it for me on e-bay - driving it home my daughter liked it so much, they got one for her.

  • Not fun. - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

The look of the Equinox is great, that is where it stops. Backing up is down right scary there are so many blind spots, the turning radius is terrible, the suspension feels like the car has 70,000 miles on it since new (really clunky over bumps), and the gas mileage is a lie... We are selling it with 10,000mi. and buying an Audi Allroad. GM vehicles are just not good..

The fuel milege is horrible, nowhere near what is advertised. Rear seats should fold flat so they are usable for storage. Itts slightly underpowered, but not bad. Drives and handles fairly well. Rear vision is horrible. Hood noise on the highway with windy conditions. Its a nice looking vehicle. Plug in location is bad, and the cup holders are cheap and in the way of the parking brake. Steering wheel tilt is useless. Driver seat adjustment is ridiculous.

  • Great car, all the options, smooth ride - 2008 Chevrolet Equinox

I bought the LTZ black metallic after lots of research. Had the Escape for 4 years and never got used to the rough ride. RAV4 seemed just as rough on the test drive. Considered the Santa Fe, but it didnt have the cool look and features even though storage is a little better. Agree with others about bad cup holders, no room to access driver side recline lever, and limited storage. My gas mileage is about 17-18 mostly in town driving. Sunroof, fog lights, remote start and XM are fun to have, and the roomy back seat is great for adults. The wasted space btwn front seats is annoying and I wish I had more places to stuff things. My first black car and it has been great in California
