Model Overview:

Part of a growing segment of plus-sized small crossover SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox splits the difference between compact and midsize utility vehicles and offers roomy accommodations in a five-passenger layout. Like other vehicles in its class, the Equinox emphasizes style, amenities and day-to-day practicality over more traditional SUV attributes. In short, the Chevy Equinox is a fine choice for commuting to work or transporting pets, but it's not suited for towing, or anything more rugged than a gravel road.

Although the Equinox has always had a roomy interior and an easy-driving nature, the plain styling and low-quality interior materials in earlier models are none too impressive by today's standards. Later versions of this Chevrolet crossover have made big strides in quality and are available with more desirable features and engine choices.

  • Suprise - 2010 Chevrolet Equinox

After test driving Ford, Toyota and a few other models in the same catagory I was surprised how nice the Equinox was, I gave it a better rating than the above for the price, looks and all the features it has. I have 1000 on the vehicle and average 27mpg city and freeway. The interior is great, controls are all visable and easy to reach. I like all safety features, handling is nice and road noise is low.

Well, this is one vehicle I wont trade in. I love the way it drives, I feel like im driving a fast car. I love the way it makes me feel that it is a SUV. But it dosent feel like it.

I like this little truck. I think the plastic for the dashboard can be improved. Needs map lights in front and handles above each door. I also had an issue with hubcaps on this truck. They were making a ticking noise and GM could not figure out how to fix it. My dealer has since swapped the noisy hubcaps with alloy wheels. Problem solved. Dont go through the hassel of hubcaps. Just get the truck with the alloys. Overall, though, I like it. It is a nice ride, and very nice to look at. Sliding back seat a plus for taller friends

  • Not Pleased - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

For more than a year, I never had a problem and then suddenly it started acting up. It was still under warranty and the dealership has offered to extend the warranty free of charge and give me free roadside assistance, but it still isnt worth it. Sometimes when I am driving it stops suddenly. Usually it happens shortly after starting it up, but it has happened once while I was driving down the road. Other times it doesnt start at all. But it is inconsistent and the dealership cant find anything wrong with it. Ive done some research online and found that this problem isnt only happening to my Equipnox.

  • Needs new ideas - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

I bought my Equinox new, and havent had much trouble. Ive had the clunking noise upon starting the car, and its actually a recalled part that was just found out about in 7-08. I also have issues with the cupholders, e-brake and center console not being driver friendly. The leather cracks easy, and dont get anything stuck in the sunroom seams, it will leak.

  • Counting the days till I return! - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

This was the first GM car I have ever bought and it will be the last. I had to replace the struts and strut mounts as well as the front axle at 14,000 miles. The front brakes and rotors at 35,000 and the rear brakes have been deglazed 3 times the first was at 10,000 miles. The car is so loud, you hear ever bump in the road. The car handles horribly and does not feel safe. The only thing I am happy about is that I did not purchase the vehicle instead I used the smart buy program and I will be returning it early in December. The worst part is GM knows the issues with the safety of the car an ignores them.

  • Bought one, big problems - 2010 Chevrolet Equinox

Wrote one of the first reviews on this after test driving. Bought one a week ago. Tranny problems already w/ 4 cyl. When downshifting from 4-3 and 3- 4 it shifts too early, causing sudden deceleration. Also jittery (front to back) coasting at 17mph, and when accelerating in low 30s. In dealer right now getting checked out. Seems others have experienced it, but not everyone, so it isnt "normal", just might be a bad batch of trannys (assuming it is tranny). See my experiences in "2010 Equinox Problems" thread on Edmunds forum. Love ride, technology, and interior. Highly recommend is tranny is right.

  • 2006 Equinox LT - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

We just picked up our 2006 Equinox LT, Laser Blue, and are much MUCH happier with the 2006 LT model, than we were with the 2005 LS model, because the LS doesnt come with cruise, plus we had silver with black bumpers, now we have painted blue bumpers, and are going to get the sunroof too. The 06 LT drives a LOT smoother than the LS, with AWD, traction control etc, plus, is much quieter and steers more solidly than the LS, which tended to be finicky and jump around a lot. Plus the cheesy faux "alloy looking" hubcaps with the black rims showing underneath. We are very very happy with the new model. Happy enough to take the big hit on depreciation after having the 05 model just one month!

  • Will Buy Again! - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

My husband and I leased an Equinox to take our son back to college in another state. The trip was 10 hours one way and none of us got tired! There was plenty of room to pack everything and room for us to sit comfortably. We decided then that would be the next vehicle for us We bought the Equinox pre-owned and since I am the primary driver I couldnt be more pleased. The radius turning is good and surprisingly tight. The back seat has more room than the Toyota Highlander. I love my Equinox!!
