Model Overview:

Part of a growing segment of plus-sized small crossover SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox splits the difference between compact and midsize utility vehicles and offers roomy accommodations in a five-passenger layout. Like other vehicles in its class, the Equinox emphasizes style, amenities and day-to-day practicality over more traditional SUV attributes. In short, the Chevy Equinox is a fine choice for commuting to work or transporting pets, but it's not suited for towing, or anything more rugged than a gravel road.

Although the Equinox has always had a roomy interior and an easy-driving nature, the plain styling and low-quality interior materials in earlier models are none too impressive by today's standards. Later versions of this Chevrolet crossover have made big strides in quality and are available with more desirable features and engine choices.

I had a 2001 Toyota RAV4 and was totally convinced that Japanese cars could not be beat. I decided I was going to replace the RAV4 and began research by attending an auto show and test driving and just looking at some vehicles. The in contention were the RAV4, the CR-V and the Subaru Forrester. Well the 2010 Chevrolet Equinox came out of no where. And was so impressed, I bought the LS on the spot. Rides like a cloud, has every amenity you realistically need and more than you can believe, for a base model. I believe you really get a lot for your money. With the 4 cylinder and a mix of city and hwy driving I got 26 miles to the gallon. I never achieved this rating with my RAV4. GM hit a HR

  • Great car, would like better gas mileage - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

Overall, the car is great. I havent been getting great mpg though. Typically, I get 20-21 MPG, which isnt horrible but it isnt great either. The small SUV fits my needs and it is a fun drive.

I am very pleased with the comfort snd handling of this vehicle. Also the gas mileage for an SUV type vehicle is moderately good. There is plenty of space to load cargo in the back seeing that the back seat reclines and moves foward. A lot of leg room for rear passengers

I could not be happier with this truck. When first considering a new car I wanted a Trailblazer, but my husband talked me into the Equinox. I am so grateful that he did. It turned out to be my dream car. Unfortunately My 16 year old daughter flipped my Equinox, totaling it this weekend and walked away with sore muscles. The interior of the vehicle stayed completly intact. The only evidence of the accident inside the truck were the deployed air bags. I am currently looking for another one. I would recommend this vehicle to everyone.

  • If it isnt broke, dont fix it! - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

Just bought this vehicle and everything appears well. Carfax report checked out OK. Driveability is good, mpgs are lower than expected in town. Sharp looking SUV although my model has wheel covers instead of alloy rims. Power seems to be sufficient at 185 hp. 45,000 miles and only routine maintenance. Pleased so far. Only downfall, as several have mentioned, is the suspension noise from the front end. Very disturbing on less than perfect roads.

Replacing a mini van with the Equinox. Just as with our Venture, the stock tires must go so the sharp edges of the ride quality will be smoothed out. The Nox has a tighter feel without much body pitch. The electronic steering is a big plus no dead center spot and good progressive change with road speed. Interior noise levels are very good. the performance of the sunroof (wind noise and buffeting) is not as good as some other models I have owned. The only fault I had to fix was the rear headrests, the block the rear view.

I posted previously and mentioned harsh transmission behavior. GM sent a engineer to drive with us and he loaded a new tranny software program that was approved yesterday and will begin being put in new production vehicles next week, and the difference is huge. With this change there is not another small or medium sized SUV under $45k Id rather have. Gas mileage also is getting better each tank as the engine breaks in. Now about 30 mph hwy (70-75 mph with A/C on).

  • Update on Equi - 2008 Chevrolet Equinox

Weve made a couple of trips to the VA mountains from the central NC area after installing a reciever hitch and hauling a ROLA cargo box. Weve been through a couple of oil changes (3000mi) and we like our Equi more than when we first got it. Gas mileage on our trips, which includes a lot of mountain roads and town driving has averaged almost 22 MPG on both trips! We confirmed the computer reading by figuring it the old fashioned way, just to make sure. Have had a couple of small warranty items repaired with no problem. This is a fun vehicle to drive and my wife (primary user) loves it. Sun roof and leather makes it nice. Entry front and back is great (Im 62" and 255lbs)!
