Model Overview:

Part of a growing segment of plus-sized small crossover SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox splits the difference between compact and midsize utility vehicles and offers roomy accommodations in a five-passenger layout. Like other vehicles in its class, the Equinox emphasizes style, amenities and day-to-day practicality over more traditional SUV attributes. In short, the Chevy Equinox is a fine choice for commuting to work or transporting pets, but it's not suited for towing, or anything more rugged than a gravel road.

Although the Equinox has always had a roomy interior and an easy-driving nature, the plain styling and low-quality interior materials in earlier models are none too impressive by today's standards. Later versions of this Chevrolet crossover have made big strides in quality and are available with more desirable features and engine choices.

  • Lucky to be alive - 2008 Chevrolet Equinox

We bought a 2008 Chevy Equinox LT-2 trim package after looking at the Ford Escape and Edge and the Jeep Liberty. The Equinox fits me fine and Im 6ft 5 285lbs. And January 24, 2008 we proved its crash test ratings. I fell asleep at the wheel around noon and hit the guide rails on I-79 with cruise set at 68. Looks like I hit them head on. Took out 5 posts then rolled and slid down into grass. It totaled the car and all we got was sore necks from seatbelts. Even the airbags didnt hurt hitting us! But I think they saved our lives we had 5 in car. 3 kids in back. 5 star 4 sure!

  • Love my little blue rollerskate! - 2008 Chevrolet Equinox

At least thats what my husband calls it. My little rollerskate. Ive had it almost a year now and its still as fun to drive as it was the day I bought it. My little AWD goes through the deep snow like a dream. Theres tons of room in the back for the kids to stretch out and we can still take the dog along with us on road trips and it gets decent gas mileage. The only complaint I have for my Equinox is that it is a little lightweight, if the wind is really blowing I have to keep both hands at 10 and 2 to keep it steady. But up here in Michigan we dont get too many windy days so its only been a stressful ride once or twice. All in all its a great little family car. Cute and fun to drive.

  • Uncertain - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

I bought my Nox in 2006 with 9 miles on it. At first I thought it was a great buy, but two and a half years later, its one thing after another with this wagon. It acts up every other day, refusing to start, the check engine light is always popping up and it feels as though I really have to step on the pedal to reach thirty mph. I have thought about trading in for a car but I would be in the hole about 4k. I do not recommend anyone buying this car.

  • Im very optimistic though - 2008 Chevrolet Equinox

Well I traded in my 02 Envoy for the 08 Equinox sport, and by far I miss the smoothness of the ride the Envoy had. I had 150,000 miles on it and it still rode better. I like the Equinox, I dont love it. I do like the mpg better though. The turning radius is not good. Lots of blind spots! Its kind of a flimsy car. My buddy sat on the hood and it dented so easily, but I guess that is just how cars are built today. It handles very nice, but does not shift smooth at all. When I have the cruise control on it annoys me. It is good in the snow, but wish I would of got AWD. I love the remote start and the heated seats. I have the good stereo, but for some reason it does not get loud enough.

  • Great ride - 2007 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I purchased this vehicle used. I have had the vehicle a week and it is great. I read everything I could before purchasing. This is the most confortable ride I have ever been in, it is fun to drive. In the week since I got it we have had almost 9 inches of snow. It handles great! I highly recommend this vehicle. I cant say enough.

  • First SUV - 2008 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

With gas prices were soaring, my husband and I no longer wanted to keep a truck and we traded in his 1997 Silverado for the Equinox. We wanted a small SUV with AWD for winter driving. It handles well in bad weather rides comfortably, but it hesitates when trying to excellerate on the highway. I didnt like the window controls on the console at first, but I got use to it. Gas mileage was great on a trip to Ocean City MD. We got about 29 mpg. My husband was excited about that. There is not a lot of room in the front. The cup holders are cheap and awkward. Despite a few negatives, we both like our Equinox. Unfortunately, my husband still misses his truck, even though he likes our new SUV.

  • My little Scat Back - 2008 Chevrolet Equinox

I came down in size from a TrailBlazer EXT to this Equinox Sport - to save gas. Best thing I ever did. This little mover can get up and run. It brought back fun in driving. Mileage is OK considering the HP it has. Good move!

  • Hindsight is 20/20 - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

Got this vehicle with 80 miles on it. Other than the pathetic turn radius and the frequent trips to the gas station, the constant cleaning of the interior seats and the center console, the useless space in the rear (unless whatever you want to unload, you do it through the passenger seats, not the rear door..unless you want everything littering your driveway), the never ending check engine light to which the only apparent cure is to reset it for a fee..and finally now, no heat in the coldest winter in 4 years, it was reliable & relatively comfortable..for less than one year.

  • EQI-NOT - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

At 30,000 miles a rear wheel bearing had to be replaced. The front brake rotors showed serious warping at 30,000 miles. The standard tires were substandard. The vehicle overall has bad gas mileage. It is a very handy vehicle for shopping, hauling. I have always been a GM man even when they rusted out in 3 years. Thank God the Japanese introduced their line. Even though I accumulate GM dollars, I will go foreign the next time around.

  • No other vehicle will do it for me - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Had the vehicle 5 months now. It is very comfortable. Love the heated seats and sunroof. The vehicle handles better than any other vehicle Ive had in the winter. I see people slipping and sliding all over the road in newer vehicles and my Nox is sturdy and safe. I highly recommend this vehicle to anyone who has a family and who lives in wintry conditions. I dont find the vehicle to be a gas oink and it doesnt cost that much to fill the tank. The vehicle handles well on the highway and even better in snowy conditions. Most people who see it comment on what a smart SUV it is and where did I get it. Thanks Chevy for the best vehicle weve ever owned!
