Antilock brakes are standard on all models for 2006. Heated cloth seats are now available on the LT, the LS features body-color fascias and the LT gets body-color rearview mirrors.

Pros:
  • Long wheelbase affords plenty of interior room, fore/aft-adjustable rear seats, high crash test scores, available side curtain airbags.
Cons:
  • Limited choice in drivetrains, confusing stereo control layout, slow steering response.

I am 66" tall. This vehicle certainly takes care of me as far as leg room. The cargo area is excellent for a compact SUV, and the back seat room is well off also. In my opinion, the outside is very sharp looking, different from most, and I am impressed with that. Now the inside is average. I wouldnt even think of comparing the inside of that of a Lexus. Its a bit on the cheap side. Although, you get what you pay for. It rides decent, and the feel is good. The seats could be a bit more comfy. If outside style, decent leg and cargo room are your objectives, this vehicle is worth a look. If not, you should consider others. Gas hasnt been an issue. Lead foot equals low mpg.

  • Fun To Drive - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

Just purchased a 2006 LT AWD Black. Drives very nice for a vehicle in this price range. I am 6-5" and the vehicle has plenty of room and is very comfortable. Would love to have "OS" handles on the passanger side. Not sure why this was not incorporated into this vehicle? It would have been nice to split the rear bench seat. That would allow for more flexiblity when using the 60/40 seating. The turn signal and wiper handles are somewhat stubby and the driver has to reach for the handle to turn or activate the wipers. Lets bring those out a little so we can keep our handle on the steering wheel. Overall, very well put together vehicle. Only time will tell how dependable the vehicle is??

  • Nice to drive, hard on gas - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

Wheel bearing went in the first month. Gas mileage is pretty bad even when driven gently (approx 22 MPG HWY) Nice to drive, very comfortable, poor visibility when backing up, needs adjustable delay wipers, -window controls are not lit (hard to find at night) -handbrake is awkward to reach -gearshift is clumsy to use -great stereo (with upgrade) -excellent in snow

I love the vehicle. It has tons of room in the front, and back seats. It is a very nice looking vehicle on the outside, but needs a little work on the inside. The interior of the doors are less than luxurious, and the sound system needs imporvement as well. Overall, for the price, its a very good vehicle.

  • Great little SUV - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

I love my new SUV. I test drove about 7 of the new SUVs that fell in the same size catagory. The selling point for me was the room in the back seat (made available because of the ability to move the seat back.) and I love the space in the center front that is low and almost hidden to put my purse when driving. There is loads of room inside with the backseat up and lots of additional room with both of the seats laid forward. The SUV has a very smooth ride and all of the dials on the dash are within easy reach. I would recomend the purchase of the vehicle to anyone who likes the thought of being raised up off the ground but still have the small size that makes parking a breeze.

A very decent midsized SUV for the price. How can they sell a a safe, roomy, well-equipped AWD vehicle with decent power for around $20K? Simple: Get the engine from China and assemble the vehicle in Canada with 50% foreign parts. Would feel better if GM included the 5-yr/100K powertrain warranty like the 2007 model.

Fun to drive, decent mileage but could be a little better. Love the way it handles, pickup and room in the interior. Love the 5 speed tranny, always keeps you in power band and passes easily at all speeds Looks of a Lexus 330 SUV but the price of a Chevy and we are a Chevy family. Great stereo w mp3 player

  • Very surprised - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

This is a fleet car/company car for me. I have owned Hondas for a long time and would have gotten a Toyota Camry had it been an option for me. But I tell you, I have not had this car in the dealer ever for work. 30k miles and nothing wrong? For an American car? That is unheard of. Very impressed with this car.

The exterior appearance sold me. However, a test drive drive was required to remove all doubt. Pleasantly surprised with the comfort in comparison to other rides in SUVs. Sound system features becomes simple after a few uses. Great pickup; stops well. SUV looks great in black and white. Other colors not appealing with the dark grey front and rear bumpers. Very roomy in the front and back seats. Chose durable fabric seat covers. Rear seat head rest should be softer. Rear storage space ideal; especially with the adjustable shelf. Not a car for gas conscious people.
