Model Overview:

Part of a growing segment of plus-sized small crossover SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox splits the difference between compact and midsize utility vehicles and offers roomy accommodations in a five-passenger layout. Like other vehicles in its class, the Equinox emphasizes style, amenities and day-to-day practicality over more traditional SUV attributes. In short, the Chevy Equinox is a fine choice for commuting to work or transporting pets, but it's not suited for towing, or anything more rugged than a gravel road.

Although the Equinox has always had a roomy interior and an easy-driving nature, the plain styling and low-quality interior materials in earlier models are none too impressive by today's standards. Later versions of this Chevrolet crossover have made big strides in quality and are available with more desirable features and engine choices.

  • Disappointing - 2012 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

This car was great for the first few years I owned it. I bought this car new with 15 miles on it in early 2012. I drive about 30,000 miles a year between work and personal use, and performed all recommended maintenance. Around 50k or 60k miles the car started running rough in between oil changes. When I started checking the oil levels more frequently I noticed it was using 2-3 quarts of oil in between oil changes (performed every 5,000-7,000 miles even though the owners manual recommends 15,000). At 80k the timing belt broke. At 85k it used 3 quarts 1,500 miles after an oil change. It is currently at the dealership having the engine rebuilt. Fortunately I have 15k of warranty left.

  • Decent kind of Chevy Car but avoid the Cloth Seats - 2012 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

This car already has 60,000 miles and we bought it brand new in January 2012. Although i got to say dont get the jet black cloth seats because they are not comfortable at all its like sitting on a desk. Although this car gets me from point A to point B without any problems the gas gets good mileage and it really stands out for a compact SUV.

  • wish I never purchased this car - 2012 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Purchased my 2012 equinox in April 2012. Had to call the dealer within a few months due to the fact my check engine light was illuminating from my dash. Was spoken to like I was a moron & told to tighten my gas cap. Did not fix the problem. It would go on & of constantly whenever where ever. The dealership would humor me & reset it when I complained. Then my equinox started consuming oil at an outrageous rate. In between oil changes I am constantly adding 2-4 quarts. I have to constantly check my oil, usually at every fill up in fear of my engine consuming all of it considering consumption is only getting worse. I have under 50k miles & have preformed all scheduled & preventative maintenance

  • Good car for the money - 2014 Chevrolet Equinox

Good in snow, comfortable on trips, 25 to 30 mpg and has been very reliable in first 10k miles.

  • LT2 3.2l V6 AWD - 2015 Chevrolet Equinox

I rated this model excellent for reliability but I havent owned long enough to accurately comment on the attribute. Overall the car is pretty much what I expected after driving a VW Tiguan SE 4Motion for 3 years. The motor is smooth and powerful but not really inspiring. Lots and lots of technology helps keep my mind off of the numb steering and sounds of NY salt and sand pinging off the bottom of the vehicle. Braking is adequate and a little better than I expected. Visibility is great and seats are firm and comfortable. MSRP on my model seemed high at $37k but GM made it affordable with almost $4k in lease incentives.

  • It is a very under powered vehicle - 2012 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I purchased the 2012 Equinox new that year. I like the looks of this vehicle. While on a highway trip It felt very busy driving. I was trying to adjust the throttle pedal to slight hills for climbing power. I tried the cruise control it helped some. The transmission shifting too low gears when you want to pass. It was better to pull over and let people pass.

  • Never again - 2011 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Where do I begin...... 2011 Equinox brought brand new. Im a commuter so I must keep up maintenance, get oil changes regularly (not from the dealer). Transmission goes out at 60,000 which took a month to repair. now 70,000 major oil leak which of course cause engine issues. Have bumper to bumper warranty BUT GMC doesnt want to pay, claims issue occurred to not changing oil. Had to produce receipts of proof that Ive had oil changes. Once all is said and done trading it in and never going back to Chevrolet.

  • A HUGE improvement over our 2005 Equinox. - 2014 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

My wife and I purchased a 2014 1LT in candy apple red with the black/light titanium interior in September of 2014. The only option was the 8-way power drivers seat with the remote start package. Chevy improved this vehicle every way imaginable over our 2005 Equinox, which we LOVED. The ride, the handling, the quality of the seating, the quality of the interior, and all of the included electronic possibilities make this a truly fun vehicle for us to drive.

  • 2013 Eqinox is in the shop for repair every few months - 2013 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Purchased my Equinox June of 2013, when I brought it in for my first oil change, I already had an oil leak. Right around my second oil change I heard this horrible banging noise coming from the rear of the vehicle, the car needed a new secondary fuel pump, and sensor. Right before my 3rd oil change my check engine light came on, the car needed a new fuel rail pressure sensor. Now the car just came out of the shop this week due to a humming sound when I would turn on my ac. It turns out the car needed a whole new ac compressor. I have had nothing but problems with my new car. I have purchased 3 other brand new vehicles in the past, and never had any problems with them. Very disappointed!

  • Goodbye Chevy - 2010 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Purchased a new 2010 Equinox at the end of 09. It was the first one on the lot and I really loved the space and design. Thats the only thing left to love. Started having problems almost immediately. After much discussion with Chevy Customer Care, the first engine was replaced at around 60K. Last week, the second engine blew up. It also has 60K miles on it. The service department has said they will not help. $4100 to fix and they will give us $4500 on a trade. Uh, no. We have a Chevy Silverado HD and a Cruze. We have been loyal customers for years. But I cant stand by a company that doesnt stand by their product. I just bought a Toyota for the first time in my life.
