Model Overview:

Part of a growing segment of plus-sized small crossover SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox splits the difference between compact and midsize utility vehicles and offers roomy accommodations in a five-passenger layout. Like other vehicles in its class, the Equinox emphasizes style, amenities and day-to-day practicality over more traditional SUV attributes. In short, the Chevy Equinox is a fine choice for commuting to work or transporting pets, but it's not suited for towing, or anything more rugged than a gravel road.

Although the Equinox has always had a roomy interior and an easy-driving nature, the plain styling and low-quality interior materials in earlier models are none too impressive by today's standards. Later versions of this Chevrolet crossover have made big strides in quality and are available with more desirable features and engine choices.

  • Absolutely Great Vehicle for 4 years now - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

I am still amazed when I see any negative comments about this car. It has been an outstanding vehicle for me. I wonder how the Lexus owners that spent double feel when people were staring at the great looks of my car!!! 4 years now and no problems. (A gas cap and some tires) It is as fun to drive as the Mercedes 300E I once owned. The back seat leg room is my favorite feature. My 6ft tall kids love it. Very roomy, great ride and handling and has been reliable. I dont think I could have bought better.

I am pleasantly surprised at how much I like this car. Its very roomy and quiet on the road with a lot of features not available on the competition. I have the mid-grade LT1, front wheel drive model. Its easy to see out of fore and aft, so driving, parking and backing up is easy. The gas mileage is great I have been averaging over 20 city/hiway and it only requires regular gas. Given I have only the mid level model it doesnt drive sporty but is pretty agile. However, it can feel tipsy in very windy driving conditions, which makes the steering feel a too light. Upgraded models might mitigate this. Lastly, while the seats are comfy, they are a bit too soft on long drives.

The quality and comfort and convience of the vehicle is supurb. I really like the vehicle and it holds a lot more "stuff" than one would think when the back seat is folded down. I traveled to Florida recently - got 6 large dining room chairs, paint, large mirror and my personal items for my trip and had more room - just didnt have anything else to take. I was impressed. I only had 1600 miles on the vehilce when I began my trip to Florida - firt time on the highway and only got 21.6 miles to the gallon. I hope that it will improve in time. However the standard V6 has pleanty of pick up and performance. A friend of mine has the Ford Escape...my vehicle is far superior in quality, ride and quiet.

We just purchased this vehicle less than a week ago, but so far we love it. The pick-up and go is great. It handles turns good. For the money it seems well worth it. We have gone from a 2 car family to 1. Decided to upgrade to a 6 cyl. from our 2 4cyl. cars. with the intention of pulling a small pop-up camper. SO FAR SO GOOD, WE ARE VERY PLEASED.

  • My Dad wants my car! - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

I love my car! I hadnt intended to purchase another GM product, but really was impressed by this vehicle. It has an amazing amount of backseat space, even my 61" friend had head and leg room to spare! It handles better than my last car, very responsive and easy to drive. Its soooo quiet! It has a lot of storage room in the back. The 6 CD changer XM satellite stereo with 7 Pioneer speakers is awesome! I look forward to driving every day! I havent been this excited about a car since my first new car!

I bought a new, 2006 Equinox sight unseen via the internet. As I work overseas, my wife is the primary driver. Almost from day one, she commented as to the road noise, turning radius and poor gas mileage. I am now retiring and will most likely keep the car for another year. My retirement gift to my wife - another car...

  • Doesnt start x5 - 2007 Chevrolet Equinox

I have to admit, this is a nice looking vehicle but UNRELIABLE. This is my daughters car and there have been 5+ times the vehicle would not start. The key would even get stuck in the ignition. Unfortunately, recently, we have found out this is not uncommon. Our dealership service dept is great but cant find out what the problem is, although they have done some repairs. Also headlight has blown twice. Definitely a cheap feeling vehicle to match the price, does accelerate well. I have had 3 trailblazers and there is no comparison. Would not downgrade that far. The ride is comparable to the Ford Escort. The equinox is a disposable vehicle. Come on Chevy, you gotta beef it up.

I bought my used/certified 2006 eq on 2/13/09 since then I have had it back to the dealership 4 times for a starter problem and 2 times for the radio. They finally fixed my radio and after the 4th time they finally fixed my Starter problem (they replaced the whole computer system) Gas Mileage is ok but turning radius is horrible! Cup Holders and Parking Break should not be that close together

Purchased the LT3 design with all the bells and whistles. Traded a blazer for it. This vehicle is the most comfortable car Ive ever driven. Very spacious. You minivan moms out there should consider the Equinox. The remote start is the bomb. Not to mention the On Star hands free mobile phone feature. A definite recommendation for those looking to buy.

  • Great looks, good ride, poor qualities - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I love the way the vehicle looks, the decent power of the engine is sufficient and the transmission performs flawlessly. I dont like that I cant check the transmission fluid level. It has poor design quality of the interior(seating stiff). The leg room is exceptional and recommended for taller people, front and back seats. It is lacking in fuel economy, I avg.18mpg, and under performs around corners and steering quality is under performing overall. It is a great riding vehicle but I get a lot of road noise from the windows. The poor design of the rubber fittings on the windows allow for a lot of slipage around the windows when you roll them up, if you roll the window down you can pullitoff
