Model Overview:

Part of a growing segment of plus-sized small crossover SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox splits the difference between compact and midsize utility vehicles and offers roomy accommodations in a five-passenger layout. Like other vehicles in its class, the Equinox emphasizes style, amenities and day-to-day practicality over more traditional SUV attributes. In short, the Chevy Equinox is a fine choice for commuting to work or transporting pets, but it's not suited for towing, or anything more rugged than a gravel road.

Although the Equinox has always had a roomy interior and an easy-driving nature, the plain styling and low-quality interior materials in earlier models are none too impressive by today's standards. Later versions of this Chevrolet crossover have made big strides in quality and are available with more desirable features and engine choices.

  • Great SUV - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

I bought this second-hand and owned it for about 6 months. This SUV rivals those that are priced 2 and 3 times as much. Quiet and powerful engine and smooth and quick transmission. Great ride and fun to drive. The exterior and interior are both stylist and functional. Great value for the price. Go get one.

This car is VERY comfortable to drive. Peppy, roomy (love the movable back seat.)yet not cumbersome in tight spaces. Very nice size for a family car. The center console is pretty awkward. The window controls mounted in the center is still confusing after 3 1/2 years owning this car. Those are my only complaints about the design. But the quality-my goodness I have had innumerable light bulbs burn out, locking differentials break, break rotors ruined at 40K miles. Maybe Im spoiled by my Honda Civic-but all this repair work on a car with less than 50 K seems a bit much.

  • Great SUV - 2010 Chevrolet Equinox

Id been looking to purchase an Equinox since September but no dealerships in the area had one. Finally ordered one in early December and picked it up the first week of February. Its a great vehicle. I just passed 1,000 miles and Im averaging 29 mpg over mixed driving (interstate, rural highway, and city). The package to get the USB port, Bluetooth, Remote Start, and Steering Wheel controls is well worth it. The 8 speaker Pioneer system puts out great sound. Ive been getting compliments from friends, co-workers, and neighbors since I picked it up. Chevy got this one right, the new Equinox is great.

  • Honest Opinion - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

I enjoy this vehicle very much. Use it to drive to work in DC. Do not like the gas mileage I am getting to this point. Only have 1500 miles on it. Very stylish, easy to drive, and interior room is outstanding. Am getting 11-12 mpg all city and only got 17 on very short interstate trip (60 miles or so) Have not yet seen any of the coolant hose problems that some had written about. Pretty nice vehicle for the money, just needs few tweaks.

  • My 2005 Equinox Problems - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I bought my 05 Equinox used in 2007 with 25000 miles on it. The first problem I had with it was the ignition. The key would get stuck. Took back to dealer and they fixed it. Second thing was water in spare tire well. Rear hatch gasket was leaking. Paid $200 to have gasket & rug padding replaced. So for no more leaks. Third had rust on inside body of both rear doors. Took to dealer to show collision shop guy. He said hes never seen that rust problem on any other Equinox. Drivers side sun visor wont stay in position when its down to block the sun, obstructs your view. I have to prop it up. Now Ive got a creaking noise in front steering when I make a right turn. Who knows what will be next

  • Issues as soon as it was out of warranty - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

As soon as my Equinox was out of warranty the problems started occurring. To date Ive had to have the brakes replaced, the fuel cap, cellnoid, some other part for the emissions and now a fan has broken in the motor. In totally it has been almost $2000. I will never buy a GM product again!

  • Satisfied - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

This vehicle is comfortable, economical, and provides plenty of room for us, our two pets and the paraphernalia they need when we travel distances and for a period of time. We are more and more happy with our choice.

  • Good Car - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Bought this SUV used a year ago, and I have had no issues at all. I am in the military stationed in NY, and I drive to VA about every four months. Great for long trips. Good fuel economy. Great everyday driving car. Only issue I have had is battery placement.

  • Build Quality Questionable - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

The engine is just adequate for this size of SUV, and its performance is great so far. The dashboard design is okay but did not follow any ergonomics principles. The worst things are the locations of the power window switches and the gear shift display. The audio controls are horrible and you might want to get handle mounted controls. The stereo system itself is great. Right now the back door makes a terrible loud squeaking noise, which is a built in defect, and you have to push it hard to close the back doors.

  • Love It !!! - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

Love the look and the feel. Wipers a bit confusing. Overall absolutely love it. The room in the back is great. The adjustible back seat helps with getting my children in and out. The interior is beautiful. The cargo room is good with carrying diaper bags and strollers and toys. Great truck.
