Model Overview:

Part of a growing segment of plus-sized small crossover SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox splits the difference between compact and midsize utility vehicles and offers roomy accommodations in a five-passenger layout. Like other vehicles in its class, the Equinox emphasizes style, amenities and day-to-day practicality over more traditional SUV attributes. In short, the Chevy Equinox is a fine choice for commuting to work or transporting pets, but it's not suited for towing, or anything more rugged than a gravel road.

Although the Equinox has always had a roomy interior and an easy-driving nature, the plain styling and low-quality interior materials in earlier models are none too impressive by today's standards. Later versions of this Chevrolet crossover have made big strides in quality and are available with more desirable features and engine choices.

Love driving this vehicle. Rides nice and smooth. Good visibility except for a small bind spot. Lots of leg room in front and back. Good storage capacity in rear. Good gas mileage for the size of vehicle.

I traded my Impala for the Equinox because we were going on a road trip and wanted more room. The Equinox has that. We traveled from Texas to Califoria and back without a hitch. Gas mileage is good. Lots of leg room. I like the sporty look of the Equinox even though it is not the sport model. The position of the windo controls took a little getting used to. All in all I would recommend this vehicle.

  • 10 across the board. - 2010 Chevrolet Equinox

I had my eye on this for a few month but wanted to test drive some other crossovers. Drove the Ford Escape, Jeep Liberty, and the GMC Terrain. I drove the FWD and the AWD. It finally came down to the AWD in Black. It looks just as good as any other high dollar crossover and drives just as well too. It has the best look interior out of all the others too. Very quiet ride inside too.

  • Held up well in accident - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

I was recently in an accident where the other vehicle ran a stop light and I couldnt do anything except T-bone him. It was a perpendicular hit between the two vehicles and my car held up amazing. It will be totaled but there was no intrusion into the passenger compt. the airbags went off as they should the seatbelt performed its job. I was able to walk away with minor injuries youd expect from a hit of that caliber. If Id been driving anything smaller I would not have been as lucky. Also, I was getting 23-24mpg non highway as my daily driver.

  • Still love it a year later. - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

A quick update on my Equinox. I posted July 2006. The Equinox continues to be trouble free (except for a defective turn signal stalk that was replaced under warranty)and an enjoyable car to drive. It has 14,000 miles on it now. I get 19-20 in mixed driving. I am happy with the car and highly recommend it.

  • Good Utility - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

I purchased this 2006 vehicle replacing my 2001 toyota prius in 2005. I have over 53,000 miles on the car, no major work yet. I put synthetic oil in and change it every 5k, just bought new tires and breaks. Only had one tail light go out. Otherwise car runs excellent.

  • Finally, a nice change of pace for Chevy - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

In general, the vehicle performs well and has a car-like ride, however, there are some bothersome characteristices: below average gas mileage vs. sticker-a 2005 model should perform better-look at the mileage of an Accord; poor turning radius-a lot of backups required; wind noise on the drivers side, but passenger side OK-dealer says that is the way all Equinox are, but that doesnt make it right. Lacks some little touches like grab handles inside the front doors to help you in, sun visors are too short to completely block the sun-had to fabricate makeshift extenders out of cardboard, but on long trips, you need it. In general, a very nice, stylish vehicles that gets some second looks.

The Equinox fits my lifestyle perfectly right now. Its very easy to drive and park. It has plenty of room for people or gear. Tows my boat or trailer. Has great traction with the AWD. I love it.
