Model Overview:

Part of a growing segment of plus-sized small crossover SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox splits the difference between compact and midsize utility vehicles and offers roomy accommodations in a five-passenger layout. Like other vehicles in its class, the Equinox emphasizes style, amenities and day-to-day practicality over more traditional SUV attributes. In short, the Chevy Equinox is a fine choice for commuting to work or transporting pets, but it's not suited for towing, or anything more rugged than a gravel road.

Although the Equinox has always had a roomy interior and an easy-driving nature, the plain styling and low-quality interior materials in earlier models are none too impressive by today's standards. Later versions of this Chevrolet crossover have made big strides in quality and are available with more desirable features and engine choices.

Drives and handles great, only thing it could use would be some grab handles for ease of exiting. Fit and finish are first rate, with very comfortable seating arrangements.

I got away from GM for a few years and missed the the GM ride and features. This SUV is excellent, great looks, fun to drive and very good performance!

I recently returned from an 1100 mile trip to Eastern NY in my 2010 Equinox LT 4cyl. The ride was comfortable and quiet. The engine has sufficient power to take on the mountains in eastern NY with no effort. I had a little over 500 miles on it when I left and averaged 30mpg on the highway with the cruise. I found the electric power steering on the 4 cyl to be both responsive and firm unlike other electric power steering.

  • Great car - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

I have had this vehicle for about two months and love it! The exterior styling of this car is sporty and fun. The interior could use a little work, but for the cost its pretty good quality. Gas mileage is reasonable at about 19-21. The leather driver seat is very comfortable, but the back seats are kind of hard. I love the steering wheel buttons for the stereo and cruise control, its so much easier to reach while driving. I traded my 01 Blazer for this car. Even though my old car was comfortable, I love how much more modern this Equinox is.

  • Its fine for adults - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

So far no major problems with the car. It has good gas mileage and what really made me buy it is its exterior appearance. It reminds me of a Lexus SUV but without the price tag.

  • Capital "U" in Utility - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

At just over 38K miles... Where this vehicle shines is its utility: weve towed an overloaded trailer from IL to AZ and moved an 8 couch in the cabin, just to name two examples. The cabin is spacious and comfortable (minus the stiff foam in the seats) for both people and cargo the fold-flat front seats and sliding rear bench are brilliant. It rides nice and smooth, though the suspension makes a lot of noise over bumps. Decent fuel economy, despite the outdated engine paired with an "unsure" transmission (it likes to hunt for gears on even small grades). Only problems so far have been the battery that quit and was replaced under warranty, and the squeaks and rattles that suddenly appeared.

  • couldnt pass up the discounts, not bad - 2009 Chevrolet Equinox

Test drove escape, rav4, crv, Hyundai Santa Fe. All in all my first choice for interior comfort was the Santa Fe by a large margin. The equinox is simple and cheap feeling, but for the steep discount I got, I couldnt pass it up. Msrp 29,035, purchase price 18,766, lt with lt2, chrome wheels, sun roof, pioneer stereo, leather and heated seats. Runs and feels Nice, but at this point I am still missing the luxury feel that I couldn have had with the limted Santa Fe. Other issue- cheapskate design, no hatch release inside the car? no dome light or hatch light? cmon gm, that is just so lame, have some pride in what your putting on the market. No excuse to be that cheap.

  • Impressed with Equinox! - 2007 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I was looking for a small SUV for quite awhile. I had my mind set on a Mitsubishi Outlander but during my test drives, I tried a 2006 Equinox and was impressed with the handling. I disliked the interior of the 2006, so I tried the 2007. I was impressed with the interior upgrades (new for that year) and the $ was right! The cabin is extremely quiet, the engine (3.4 V6) is adequate for size of the vehicle. The steering does feel somewhat numb-it wasnt a deal breaker for me. The back seat is VERY roomy and slides back & forth - convenient for parents with little ones or if you need additional cargo room without putting the seats down. I feel I got alot for my $ - so far!

A nice replacement for my Jeep Cherokee. I hope it doesnt follow in the traditional Chevy style, by falling apart, and having cheap drive train components. The interior looks very nice, but it doesnt seem to be all that durable looking. It is very comfortable, and I think will deliver in the long run, but the jury is out. It took me 20 years to return to a GM product. I hope I didnt make a mistake. I paid $26k for a $30k sticker which is well equipped, including On-Star and XM radio. By the way the XM radio is really cool, but at $12.95 per month I can do without it. I know 4 people with this XM radio and none are re-newing. They need to get the price down.

  • Love My Chevy Equinox!! - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I was in the process of selling my car and got a few calls on the reviews they read on here. I had to come check it out myself as I couldn’t believe it… I bought my SUV in 2005 used. I have loved it since the day I bought it. It has been an outstanding vehicle for me. It gets great gas mileage for an SUV, it’s roomy and I love how it tells me when I need to put on the traction control. The car is beautiful inside and out. My car now has 50,000 miles and I have replaced the brakes and the tires it has been a great car. I am actually having a hard time letting it go….Very roomy, great ride and handling and has been reliable. I love my chevy!!
