Model Overview:

Part of a growing segment of plus-sized small crossover SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox splits the difference between compact and midsize utility vehicles and offers roomy accommodations in a five-passenger layout. Like other vehicles in its class, the Equinox emphasizes style, amenities and day-to-day practicality over more traditional SUV attributes. In short, the Chevy Equinox is a fine choice for commuting to work or transporting pets, but it's not suited for towing, or anything more rugged than a gravel road.

Although the Equinox has always had a roomy interior and an easy-driving nature, the plain styling and low-quality interior materials in earlier models are none too impressive by today's standards. Later versions of this Chevrolet crossover have made big strides in quality and are available with more desirable features and engine choices.

  • Great Crossover Vehicle for the Money - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

We downsized from a Suburban to the Equinox due to escalating fuel costs. After searching a long time for a replacement vehicle, we bought our Equinox immediately upon locating one (even prior to driving it). We have no regrets.

We bought our Equinox, because of all the good reviews we read when they first came out. I have less than 31,000 miles and we have had to replace all 4 tires, front and rear brakes, have had a leak from the back (trunk) and replaced the weather stripping at a cost of $300.00. And today had to have it towed because the car just wont start. I had it in to the dealer because of the car not starting right away when I had turned the key, they told me that they would do a tune up and that should help and guess what did the same thing 2 days ago and now it wont start at all. I love the SUV over all.

  • 2009 Sport Equinox - 2009 Chevrolet Equinox

We looked at a lot of suvs and crossovers. We knew as soon as we drove the Equinox Sport that this was a great vehicle. Great Power and Handling. It can tow my boat, because it has a 3500 lb towing capacity. Has good gas mileage if you do not race around. The warranty is great. Equinox is fun to drive and very versatile.

I have had my Equinox for a month. I have always bought Chevys, but am slightly dissapointed in this one. The ride is good, albeit a little too much wind noise on the drivers side. The front seats dont seem "full" size, and the gas mileage is not up to par (18mpg local/20 hwy, AC off!).

  • Dont buy if you drive in snow - 2008 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I have disliked this car since I had to drive it in snow the first week I owned. I thought it would be o.k. to buy a FWD instead of an AWD. I was wrong and so was my salesman. He didnt think I would have a problem. Obviously he didnt know what he was talking about. I wont buy another car from Superior Chevrolet. After making attempts to get some kind of resolution I was unsuccessful.

Like everyone else I have had issues. Just under 2 years the tires needed to be replaced. Wheel bearings were replaced under warranty and now that warranty is done need to be replaced again. There is a knock in the gas tank because something is loose. While driving on highway front console shuts off. No speedometer, tach etc. Problems with transmission. Seems to shift into neutral while driving. Cheap windshield wipers, all replaced after 2 years. Windshield chips and cracks very easily... poor design.. Headlight needed to be replaced after 3 years. Blind spots are very big and you need to be careful... Use your mirrors Key constantly sticks in ignition.

I love my Equinox. The only things that I would change are options that I didnt purchase. OnStar and AWD will be on the next one along with leather seating surfaces. I do wish that it got a little better gas mileage, however my partner gets better mileage that do I. The styling, size, horsepower, and overall curb appeal are outstanding. I shopped for six months before I made my decision. I do not regret it and my next vehicle will be a 2007 Equinox LT AWD with OnStar and leather. Thank you, Chevrolet, you hit the nail right on the head.

  • Good Truck - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

I bought the Equinox over 1 year ago and have over 26K miles. Here are my thoughts: a) The gas mileage is a disappointment. I get about 18-20 driving about 90% highway miles. b) It drives more like a truck (feels heavy) but rides like a car. c) It is VERY roomy. d) The interior quality inferior to Honda/Toyota, but better than prior Chevy models. e) Ive been in the shop A LOT (tailgate recall, CD Changer, Front Strut Assy, rear differential, antennae holder 2x) but I also had an accident with my nox in late 2004 which might have cause other problems. I also got one of the first models.

Ive been waiting to buy a new Chevrolet SUV to replace my 1988 Chevy Blazer, and this is perfect. My 88 is still running strong and in great condition, this vehicle will be the same. Great quality, great performance, and great price with my GMS employee discount.
