Model Overview:

Part of a growing segment of plus-sized small crossover SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox splits the difference between compact and midsize utility vehicles and offers roomy accommodations in a five-passenger layout. Like other vehicles in its class, the Equinox emphasizes style, amenities and day-to-day practicality over more traditional SUV attributes. In short, the Chevy Equinox is a fine choice for commuting to work or transporting pets, but it's not suited for towing, or anything more rugged than a gravel road.

Although the Equinox has always had a roomy interior and an easy-driving nature, the plain styling and low-quality interior materials in earlier models are none too impressive by today's standards. Later versions of this Chevrolet crossover have made big strides in quality and are available with more desirable features and engine choices.

This car is good except for the transmission. The automatic transmission has a high stall converter (2800+ rpm stall) thus the explosive performance but causes me to only get 14-15 in the city under normal driving conditions. The shift points for the car are also very high, on a light throttle the car shifts out of 1st and 2nd gear at 3,000 rpm and no less. On the highway I get 19 with no A/C on going down hill the engine rpm is around 2,400. The mileage sticker on the car from the EPA is very generous and needs to be reviewed again.

  • Its Fantastic - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

At this point with less than 1000 miles on it, I feel it is the best vehicle I have ever owned. Everyone loves the color-blue,and all the features on the vehicle. The ride is smooth, the pick- up is fast and powerful, the style is enticing. This vehicle is everything it says it is. I feel this is the best overall vehicle I have ever owned.

This car is terrible. Always had GM vehicles. This one is terrible. It slides in the rain, no one knows why. Never happened with my Blazer or Jimmy. Dealership has been a pain. Owed me more for truck trade wont give up $1000. GM said they would still waiting. I will never buy GM again. Hello Tokyo...

  • Equinox is a great value - 2008 Chevrolet Equinox

We bought the last 2008 Equinox on the lot with side airbags (standard in 2009). No trade-in, but still paid only $19500 (>$28000 list--it is optioned almost to LTZ, but no leather or the "sophisticated" 3.6L motor). Weve now had it 10 months and put on 10K mixed highway-city miles. Mileage: 17 in town & 25 on the road (you can do 1- 2 mpg better if careful). Absolutely NOTHING has gone wrong with this car and I cannot find even one manufacturing defect. Take that, Toyota and Honda! It is safe, comfortable, and quiet. Seats are a bit flat, especially the very spacious rear seats. But for $19K? Good deal!

  • Brakes - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I purchased the vehicle new and have had it in the shop 6 times for braking problems. My wife drives like a grandma so I know its not due to harsh braking. I have also had the alternator replaced, luckily that was still under warranty. Unfortunately when dealing with Chevy, the warranty does not include "normal wear and tear" on rotors or pads. I have noticed that the more frequent we replace them the faster they need replacing. This will be the 3rd time in 2009. Im over it! This cant be legal. Someone help!

  • Luv my Chevy Equinox!! - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

I ordered it new in 2005 with all the available options and only have replaced tires - I have 67000 miles on it now, and no problems. I am seriously thinking of getting a new 2010 model, but believe my gas mileage is better than the rating mpg on the new 2010. I would highly recommend this vehicle. Proud to drive it~! Sharp looking and easy to drive...dependable too!!

  • Weatherstripping Failure - 2008 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

We have had zero problems with this vehicle... until now. Wife noticed wet carpets, so I checked and ended up sucking over 8gal of water from spare well and back seat. Still soaked, and will need 3 days at dealer to remedy. As it is out of the base 36m/36k miles (42k) the dealer has us on the hook for almost $600 in repairs for the weatherstripping issue. That this is not being considered a recall for a design flaw (and a health hazard for mold, etc.) is ludicrous. We still love the vehicle, but this has (pardon the pun) put a damper on the enjoyment.

  • My "E" - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

My Equinox was bought after looking at other vehicles for a few months. I went and picked up a brochure from the dealer. I was impressed from the first look. Then I went to the biggest dealer in my area they had the vehicle I wanted so I traded two Fords for it. I love it. The gas mileage is the only thing that is wanting but it is getting there the more miles I drive it.
