Model Overview:

Part of a growing segment of plus-sized small crossover SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox splits the difference between compact and midsize utility vehicles and offers roomy accommodations in a five-passenger layout. Like other vehicles in its class, the Equinox emphasizes style, amenities and day-to-day practicality over more traditional SUV attributes. In short, the Chevy Equinox is a fine choice for commuting to work or transporting pets, but it's not suited for towing, or anything more rugged than a gravel road.

Although the Equinox has always had a roomy interior and an easy-driving nature, the plain styling and low-quality interior materials in earlier models are none too impressive by today's standards. Later versions of this Chevrolet crossover have made big strides in quality and are available with more desirable features and engine choices.

  • Only OK - 2007 Chevrolet Equinox

The truck is just OK. Nothing really sporty about it. It kinda says soccer mom when you are driving it. Cant understand why the "stability trak" indicator keeps coming on but I had to spend over $600.00 to get it fixed and guess what....Eight months later it is back on again. Not really rushing to take it back to the shop. Most likely will trade it in within the next year. Not sure if the 2010 Equinox is improved but I would probably not purchase one again. Overall it is OK.

I have had major problems with this vehicle, the ABS light, brake light and 4 wheel drive not working light continuously appear on the dashboard. The dealer has tried to fix the problem multiple times but is unable to. The vehicle has been out of service for more than 30 days. I am trying to return it under the lemon law but GM is fighting me. I would not purchase a GM vehicle again.

  • Heat Does Not Work!!! - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

I like the SUV but unfortunately the door that blends the heat with the air flow inside breaks inside the dash and the only way to fix it is to take apart the whole dash board costing $1,200 on up!There should be a recall because there has been 1,000s of complaints registered online and GM is thumbing there nose at the consumes.

  • My wifes decision without me - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

We just spent over $1400 on engine repairs when all the oil changes were done regularly and we used full synthetic oil which I swear by. I have never had a vehicle need such repairs and Ive owned over 9 vehicles that were not cared for quite as well as this one. My truck has more miles and is older and never needed such work. This is a poor vehicle. Handle like a lawnmower.

  • In the shop again! - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

We purchased our Nox in early 2006. We had numerous fixes while under warranty. We had the ignition changed three times within the first 6 months. The key would get stuck-either on, off, or wouldnt come out at all. We had the wipers worked on. Strange noises popped up that they were never able to find. After the warranty expired the problems continued. We have replaced the tires twice in 75,000 miles. It took 5 visits to the shop to discover the coolant was leaking into the heads and the engine had to be dismantled. After $1,200 and 2 weeks out of the shop it is back in. It misses out at 50-60 mph and the check engine light is on. I wish I could afford to get rid of the stupid thing!

  • Only Good for 5 Years - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

I loved this car when I bought it in 2004. It handled well in the snow. It was more like a truck, but it did the job. Unfortunately at about 65,000 miles, major things started to go wrong. The sway bar links,(which had to be replaced when I bought the car), had to be replaced- close to $900. Then, two head gaskets had to be replaced at about 69,000 miles- $850. Finally, the car began dying sporadically without explanation. There was an electrical problem, but Chevy would not acknowledge it. They began replacing things at random, only to have the car die again. Loved it at first, but traded it for a Subaru. Chevy claimed 70,000 miles was high mileage. I cant afford to own that type of car.

  • Sporty look, but not fun to drive - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Bought this in Dec. 06. I have always had this knocking sound. Cannot figure out what it is. For the past 6 months, I have had a hesitation when I try to start it. On several occasions I didnt know if I was going to be stranded or not. Took it to a mechanic, he acted like nothing was wrong because no lights were on. Also, cd player quit working about 1 year after I bought it. Finally, there is a problem with the gears shifting. Almost seems like the transmission is going out.

Drove from Massachusetts to N California. First day drove to VA and got 26.5 mpg, with optional V-6 engine. Drove total of 4300 miles across I-40 then up into Co. on into AZ, across UT, NV, and then into CA. Trip average MPG was 22.5, with a fully loaded vehicle. I love this car, and had to pinch myself often. The V-6 engine performed well. In the higher elevations the trans had to work hard and shifted often to keep higher speed up but did well. Never felt beat up after driving 500 miles a day. Driving at night on SR 50 in Nevada was a kick, the interior lights were really cool set up dim. XM radio so nice, we never played anything else. Americas Loneliest Highway, well, pretty fast.

  • Chevy not American! - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Well.. This being my first chevy and last. I never seen such a poor quality AWD when compared to Subaru and the pricing for the vehicle. Its body does not do justice in Rain, and actually works better in the snow. We have tried 4 different kinds of tires and made no signs of improvements. The material in the vehicle is very cheap, we cannot clean it out nor get it professional cleaned. We actually had to spend another grand and updated it with leather which has been great since. THIRD, two things.. ITS NOT AN AMERICAN ENGINE! SHOCKED! and it doesnt even have a REAL BATTERY. You cannot jump this, or jump another vehicle with this SUV. It has its good days but NOW I see why GM is falling!

I have had this vehicle for 4 months. I bought the vehicle as baby number 2 is on its way. I have really enjoyed the vehicle thus far and am really happy I bought the vehicle. I has the storage we need and we both love to drive the vehicle. I use the vehicle for city driving and am very happy with the performance. When I am on the interstate, it drives like an SUV. It has good pick up and has performed very well.
