Pros:
  • Fuel-efficient four-cylinder.
  • Quiet cabin with lots of storage bins
  • Adjustable backseat
  • Premium look inside and out

  • Not quite as much cargo space as chief rivals
  • Numb and uncommunicative steering.

  • Great but Disappointing MPG - 2011 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Great looks, quality interior, comfortable and quiet ride, adequate power. Sound system and use of switchgear totally OK. Great back seat room. Build quality seems solid except chrome door trim along windows. LTZ has great features but lacks homelink. Memory on drivers seat needs more automation (button has to be held down while it moves, easy to hit the wrong button). Gas mileage not anywhere near advertised and 600 mile range is a total joke. Best case with soft, steady pedal is 29 highway at 55 mph, have really tried hard to get more by coasting, no hard passing, easy acceleration. Gas tank can take 2 more gallons after (legal) auto cutoff (we cant fill our own cars in Oregon)

  • Extremely pleased - great for tall drivers - 2011 Chevrolet Equinox

Only 350 mi. on it so far. An excellent choice if you put high priority on fuel economy, a comfortable & quiet ride, comfortable seats, leg room, the capacity versatililty of SUV. Its a great highway cruiser offering one of the most pleasing & serene rides Ive experienced in a vehicle of this price. Its relatively heavy which, along w/ its high waistline translates into a solid secure feeling. But it wont wow you with its pep or its cornering (which are still certainly acceptable) Great front & rear seat room for 64" guy; headroom is good even w/ a sunroof. I chose it over RAV4, CRV, Venza and Sorrento. Seems good value if you can get at invoice w/ 0% finance and $1500 cash bac

  • great so far and in snow too - 2011 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

i had a 2010 subaru legacy which I loved very much, but missed having a suv and being higher up. It was very dependable and got outstanding gas milleage for its size, etc. The cvt transmission was great, pick up good, etc. I got rid of it because of the want for an suv again and it was not as good in snow as old subarus. They blamed the tires, I say if a new car with awd needs better tires then the manufacturer should be ashamed of themself. Dont get me wrong it was ok in snow but not like it should be. Now on to my new equinox. It has been a llittle bull dog in the snow with the awd. So far it has done little to none slipping in the snow, etc. For this I am so very happy up in the north where I like the feel of a sure fitter awd vehicle. So, high ratings for the awd and tires, etc. Nice job gm!. The 4 cly takes a little getting use to, it does whine when pushed but it gets up to speed quicker than you think it is. I notice you feel like its not getting up to speed but then you look at the spped and its at 40 mph quick. The shifting is smooth but between shifts it does like a leg as if engine just died for a half second, but it is something you just have to get use too and it actually is ok when you figure it out. I like keeping it on economy mode it shifts faster than not having it on (so engine whines less) So what I am saying is its nto a race car and engine feels a little diffrent but I am already getting use to it and am thiniing it will be fine. Milleage so far is about 18 mixed dirving which is not good for a 4 banger but it is very cold here and that usually takes down milleage about 4 to 5 mpg. As others have stated there are bling spots but most have them and it is just something you have to adjust to with any new vehicle. The seats are very very comfortable, much more than the subaru. Maybe its the being higher up but I feel they are nice. The electronics and set up are superb. The on star with turn by turn directions is fantastic, so much so I will continure to pay for it after the intrductory offer (some thing else I missed when I had the subaru) I like to have on star its that added saftey feel. They are always nice when I have called and the direction not only talk to you but it displays on the radio or dash board which way to tuen and when-so cool, so advanced!! The information system is awesome fantastic. Tire pressure, mpg, etc. etc. etc. so nice. It also has a compas and outside temp. The standard radio is very nice to me. Sounds nice and the xm radio is wonderful (something subaru did not offer and was 500 plus dollars to have installed into the radio) It is very room inside with nice storage compartments and the middle consel is amazing how deep it goes, it could really fit a small laptop. The heat is very hot and heats up quick I have not put it past 2 setting yet and its been 20 degrees of less here. Like the remote start, and wanted heated seats but was not avaialbe on the 1 lt. Funny thoughI dont miss it yet (sure i would like it) but the seats just feel warmer than the subaru so its ok so far. The seating position is nice and easy to get set up to your liking. Now if it is reliable and good I wil lgive it a 9.5 out of 10. Really wanted to be up high again, got that, wanted good in snow, got that, wanted nice room in side got that, a decent look, got that, good milleage is to be determined. If I had the choice to get this or the subaru again I would hand down get the equinox, subaru was a nice looking great car but I dont want a sedan and my equinox is doing better int he snow, hope this helps some readers

  • High Mileage is a Farce!!! - 2011 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I love my new Equinox, but am very very disappointed in the "so-called" 31mpg. I opted for the 4-cylinder engine and FWD instead of AWD to extend my wallet at the gas pump. Turns out I now receive MUCH less gas mileage than I did in my previous car which was an Impala with a 6-cylinder engine. If I knew then what I know now, my trade would NOT have been the same. After reading all of the suckers online who join me with the same problem, I believe its time that GM pays up! I wont give up till they give me an answer and solution to my new gas hog.

We have owned our Nox for 2 weeks. We drove most of our 3700 on a 3300 mile road trip. 2 adults and 3 children with luggage. We drive speed limits for the most part and got 20 to 23 mpg averaging 21.8 overall. The cars computer rated it at 21.8 and so did our manual entry.miles on

  • Initial observations - 2011 Chevrolet Equinox

I traded in a Mercedes convertible, opting for an inexpensive, practical SUV. I studied Edmunds articles for two months and investigated several vehicles. In the end, the Equinox seemed the best value. The low price, warranty, hi-tech features on the LT1 model with the PDD option, and design won us over. On every count, the Edmunds review was accurate. The steering does have a video game feel, and some of the interior materials are not of the highest quality. Still, our initial impression and experiences have been very favorable. It drives well, and it is very user-friendly. Our last two purchases were the Mercedes and a BMW. The personnel at the Chevy dealership were as professional...

  • Great buy, no regrets, go for it! BEST small SUV - 2011 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Amazing car, handles much better than CRV, especially on a highway. Very quite and smooth, comfortable ride. Gas mileage is also great, as advertised. Electronics and dash board instrumentation is light years ahead of any other compact SUV. Interior is well designed and does not feel cheap unlike Nissan Rogue and Subaru Forester which both. Options packages are well thought of and not a rip off like with Hondas etc. GM included all the basic convenience into basic models and did not make 1 or 2 desperately wanted option available on premium trim levels only. I got exactly what I need without paying for extra stuff which I dont. Dont think any further, Equinox is not perfect but the best!

  • Great ride and value - 2011 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Bought new LT1, 4 cyl model two weeks ago. Much smoother and quieter than all other small SUVs I tested (Kia, Hyundai, Honda, Toyota). I was looking for a nice, small AWD with modern features. The 2011 Equinox provided this and much more. quiet ride, features and value.

  • poor gas mileage - 2011 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I am very disappointed with the gas mileage. I took a trip to Florida on straight flat roads and could only get 23 mpg. It had 4800 miles when I took the trip. I am used to getting 32/34 mpg on my 2006 Impala and it was a 6 cyl. The only reason I selected the Equinox was for the advertised great gas mileage. We had planned on taking a road trip around the country, however, with this mileage we will have to cancel. I wish I had kept my Impala!!

  • Nice car with some disappointments - 2011 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I have had my 2011 chevy equinox for 3 weeks, and put 913 miles on it. I love the handling of this car, lot of space. I bought a basic model, but it doesnt look cheap at all. However, the gas millage is not good as GM claim, I only get 17 mpg on city, and its not even close to 22. I havent drive a lot on highway yet, so I am looking forward to see what will be real the highway mileage. This car looks really nice but I am really disappointed about GM’s quality control! I went back to the dealer 3 times for the last 3 weeks. The seat belt was twisted face to a wrong side, front passenger door window trim is not even as the rear door, rear door window has a problem to roll down
