Model Overview:

Part of a growing segment of plus-sized small crossover SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox splits the difference between compact and midsize utility vehicles and offers roomy accommodations in a five-passenger layout. Like other vehicles in its class, the Equinox emphasizes style, amenities and day-to-day practicality over more traditional SUV attributes. In short, the Chevy Equinox is a fine choice for commuting to work or transporting pets, but it's not suited for towing, or anything more rugged than a gravel road.

Although the Equinox has always had a roomy interior and an easy-driving nature, the plain styling and low-quality interior materials in earlier models are none too impressive by today's standards. Later versions of this Chevrolet crossover have made big strides in quality and are available with more desirable features and engine choices.

  • Equinox fails to meet MPG expectations - 2010 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

We purchased our beautiful Equinox in March 10. The ride and handling are better than expected as is the overall look. BUT, when it come to the gas-millage Very disappointing! I am 73 ys young and a careful driver. I do not race-off from a stop light/sign and do not drive over 75 on the highway. I do not know where Chevy gets its right to estimate 32 MPG (highway), the best I can do is 22.5 MPG. Which overall is not bad, but no where is it what I expected. Traded a 05 Murano which got 20 MPG in the city and 24 on the road, so after all the hype about the MPG of the Equinox I feel that Chevy is misrepresenting the facts. Dont get me wrong, I do love it, will C say on my 2nd oil change.

  • Wouldnt recommend a GM to my enemy - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

At 30,000 miles the injectors had major issues. Dealership AND GM headquarters would do nothing about it. At 48,000 miles, the timing belt cover is leaking and now the engine is making really bad noises. GM headquarters told us it would be covered, then went back on that and said were out of luck, and coupled with the fact the dealership was rude about both situations, Ill never buy a GM product again.

  • Not the quailty I would have hoped for - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

My car ran great for the first year or so. Now so far Ive had three blown head gaskets. Two new heater cores, and one new water pump. And now. It doesnt want to start.

  • Paint bubbling not covered by warranty - 2008 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Really love the 2008 Equinox but on a trip this winter, the computer burned up and at that time we noticed three bubbles on the hood. When we returned home we pointed out the bubbles to our dealer and he said it was not covered under warranty. If warranty states bumper to bumper, doesnt that include paint.

  • Roomy - But Costly - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

We are a tall family and the room inside the Equinox is what attracted us to this car, and we have loved it for that reason. What we have not loved is the costly barrage of repairs that started shortly after we purchased the vehicle and have continued for the three and half years that we have owned it. I have had it in the shop for major repairs (which I am going to classify as $400 - $1,500 a pop as a major repair) 8 times while owning it. All of the repairs have been mechanical. Forking out $5,000 - $6,000 repairs for a $20,000 car is ridiculous.

  • Overall, a good car - 2007 Chevrolet Equinox

My wife loves this car! It has been a good car up to now. Good mileage on the highway and easy to handle.

  • A diamond in the rough - 2007 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Ive had a lot of SUVs before but my 2007 Equinox is by far the best Ive owned. My mileage is quite good on the highway around 27-28 mpg. On a long trip I took, on a level road, with Cruise Control on 60, I was averaging 30 MPG. The ride is comfortable, smooth and effortless to drive. The AWD is awesome in Snow, especially going up hills. Brakes are superb and quiet. The best feature is the back seat that is adjustable and has a flat floor (no hump). I have my own business and transport a lot of boxes. Out of all my previous SUVs this one hold the most.

  • Better than expected - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

Bought used with 70,000 miles havent found most of the complaints that others have to be an issue. Had heard that the engine was underpowered and the cabin was noisy but driving on the highway the first couple times I was surprised to look at the speed and find myself doing 80. For the noise the only thing that intrudes is the tires when going over large bumps. Engines quiet unless you mash the pedal. Wind pushes it around easily something I never felt in my last car. Accelerations not great but has plenty of power for highway driving. Love that I can carry five people over six feet and have them be comfortable. Fuel economy is about 21 mpg. Seats and floor were stained cleaned up easy

I purchased this vehicle used 6 months ago, have had no problems at all so far. The sliding rear seat is a brilliant idea that is very useful. Rear seat room is excellent. The center console mounted window switches struck me as odd at first, but I have come to love them, they offer very easy and visible access. Performance is acceptable, fuel mileage is better than I expected. My only complaints are that the transmission seems unsure of which gear to use, (5th or overdrive) and hunts between 40 and 50 mph, the sunroof whistles above 60 or so, and the front seat cushions seem a bit short. However, these issues do not negatively affect my appreciation for this vehicle.

  • The more miles the more problems. - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I bought my Equinox about a year ago and loved it at first. It drove smoothly, it was comfortable to travel in for a little bit. Then my anti-lock braking system started to take a crap on me. Took it into the dealer said that it was a computer chip malfunction. They replaced that and I didnt even hardly get it out of the parking lot before it did it again. Took it back again and finally figured out it was something in the wheel. I hate the interior I spilled water on my seat and it stained it! All the buttons are wearing off and I just took it to the shop again because something to do with my radiator that could have potentially burnt my engine up! The more miles the more problems it seems.
