Model Overview:

Part of a growing segment of plus-sized small crossover SUVs, the Chevrolet Equinox splits the difference between compact and midsize utility vehicles and offers roomy accommodations in a five-passenger layout. Like other vehicles in its class, the Equinox emphasizes style, amenities and day-to-day practicality over more traditional SUV attributes. In short, the Chevy Equinox is a fine choice for commuting to work or transporting pets, but it's not suited for towing, or anything more rugged than a gravel road.

Although the Equinox has always had a roomy interior and an easy-driving nature, the plain styling and low-quality interior materials in earlier models are none too impressive by today's standards. Later versions of this Chevrolet crossover have made big strides in quality and are available with more desirable features and engine choices.

  • Never Again - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

Bought used with 23k miles and soon as I drove off lot engine light came on! After 35,000 cd player went out, brakes go out every 6-7 months, at 52k miles driver window wont go down at all. Worst car of my life. Not enough room Take my key out no lights on still continues to ding used to be able to pull key at angel to get it to stop now that wont work Chevy cant figure out whats wrong. No way to use e-brake if you need it without ruining interior and getting all sticky. Seats stain with just water being used on them. Stay away from the equinox! interior flakes with no effort. will never own again staying away from GM altogether nothing but problems from them

  • Do Not Buy! - 2005 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

I purchased my 05 brand new and could have never imagined such problems with a new car. The details are too long to list but there have been issues from the beginning ranging from engine trouble to the interior simply falling apart. Unfortunately I am stuck with this vehicle right now but unless the President of Chevy personally calls me to apologize and offers me a free vehicle I will never drive Chevy again. Please take my advice and do the same.

  • Nice, I guess - 2010 Chevrolet Equinox

I actually have the V-6 Equinox. That is my biggest debate on this vehicle. I like the vehicle. It is nice and roomy. The adjustable backseat works for carrying the kids and then adjusting to carry my work stuff. So far, it seems to be working well. I heard about how well the I4 is performing, but went with the V6 because I like to move and may need to pull a motorcycle trailer. Yet, the engine has not been that impressive. It has an initial lag. The transmission can be a bit harsh. I was just not impressed with it. The only other complaint I have is the fog lights. This model has automatic lights. Yet, I have to reach past the regular light switches to reach the fog lights. annoying

  • Great Tall Person Car - 2010 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

As a tall (64") person I have trouble finding cars that fit. This is the most comfortable, height-accommodating vehicle I have owned or driven. The front seat slides way back and still leaves rear leg room. On my first big trip in lots of rain and mountain driving I was shocked to average 28 mpg, but I did use the econo feature quite a bit and monitored the instantaneous mileage readout. I am used to feeling stiff and cramped after a long drive, but this vehicle has allowed me to cut back on my yoga. I dont like the exterior styling, but if this is the design necessary to make the interior so satisfying, I can accept the boxy-bulgy look.

  • So angry - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

Purchased this car brand new. A year later, the check engine light came on & the car wasnt running right. The dealer told me the coolant system needed to be replaced & kept the car for 10 days waiting for Chevy to manufacturer the parts. Since then, Ive had to replace the coolant system 5 times in 4 years. I just learned that it was never the coolant system - it was the engine. 76K hwy miles & I need a new engine because Chevy failed to correctly identify the problem. I also had the car flood when it rained. I replaced the starter twice as well. Thanks a lot Chevy for making such a wonderful piece of crap!

  • Good gone bad - 2007 Chevrolet Equinox

I just got my car about 4 months ago, it was riding good, had no problem until now. My brake light kept coming on. So I took it to the shop to find out that my brake fluid was leaking into my master cylinder and they didnt know why. So now my car in the shop goin on 3 weeks waiting on a part to come in. Its a good car dont get me wrong but if any light starts to come on go get it check out.

  • Still Loving It! - 2010 Chevrolet Equinox
    By -

Purchased my Equinox in Nov. 2009. Im still loving this SUV! Comfortable, reliable, roomy. Plenty of "get up and go" for a 4 cylinder. Ive never owned a 4-cylinder before and was a little concerned. Not any more! Im getting about 26 mpg in the city. Since I do mainly city driving, it is 3 weeks between fill ups. On highway driving, Im getting about 28 mpg. Not the expected 32, but still great for a SUV. You wont be disappointed with this purchase. Ive never loved an automobile so much before!

  • Great SUV - 2010 Chevrolet Equinox

Compared Honda CR-V to Chevy Equinox. Went with the Equinox based on reviews & test drive. Needed a car for long weekend trips. This one so far exceeds our expectations. Its fun to drive, comfortable, and great on gas mileage.

  • My 2006 Chevy Equinox - 2006 Chevrolet Equinox

I love this car! It gets about 27 mpg on the highway, looks great and is fun to drive. I like it enough to get another one someday in a newer model. The engine is peppy, accelerates nicely, and passing is a breeze. I am a satisfied owner!
